Great selection, fair prices, and an amazing staff working wonders on my own community. I’m so glad I bought here and skipped the chains and the expensive, boutique shops

Whenever I need my bike repaired I take it here. Not only have they kept my bike in top working order, if I need bike supplies they have everything for bike safety. The staff is nice, knowledgable and helpful. I really like that they give back as they have implemented the bike program for kid’s. Great initiative!

I found this place online and read the Unilocal review. I needed a bike for my 11 yo son for his bday. I wanted to get him a nice one but didn’t want to pay full price since its a bike, and he’s a boy, and well, you know. We went together and they had a great selection(being in the dead of winter). I was pleasantly surprised. They had Treks, Diamondback, Cannondale, Giant, and more. We found him a spotless 24inch 7 speed diamondback for $ 160. The staff was amazing, friendly, and extremely helpful in fitting him, giving him tips on the gears, etc. In talking with the staff about their awesome selection(bikes for all ages), he explained that as soon as Spring arrives the bikes fly out the door. I also have an 8yo who as going to be getting a bike for his bday in May, but the idea of waiting until May made me think the selection might not be as good. I found a great Trek for him as well. I highly recommend visiting in the coldest season as the masses aren’t exactly thinking of biking and supply is higher. They also sell bike parts, accessories,(helmets), cycle shirts, etc. We will definitely be returning in future years as my boys outgrow the ones purchased today. When we got home they immediately went out for a spin and LOVED the bikes. Both bikes came with a light for the front and back as well. This is a great place to bring your bike to donate for a great cause. Their Earn a Bike program is wonderful and just an overall wonderful cause, and service. I have 3 boys and can’t afford spanking new bikes for them. Trips for Kids made it possible for us to get two for the price of one retail bike. Check them out first, before you hit Craigslist or other used bike options.

More people need to know about this place. They sell refurbished bicycles and bicycle-related items(i.e. helmets & clothes, like those ultra skin-tight shirts and shorts all the really good bikers have). For weeks, I’ve been trying to buy a used Scwhinn bike off Craiglist from some lady in North Charlotte. She keeps posting the bike and then everytime I ask about it, she doesn’t respond. She was driving me crazy. Anyway, so we finally bought our 10 year-old daughter a killer 6-speed mountain bike for $ 80 at Trips for Kids(sorry North Charlotte woman who lists items on Craiglist and then doesn’t respond). And we picked up a hi-tech bike pump for $ 15. It cost over $ 30 but was donated to Trips for Kids, so they were selling it for $ 15. Feels good to know that our money goes to a program to help kids earn bikes who might otherwise not be able to afford one. Oh, bring your check book or cash. No credit cards.

My beautiful bike was purchased at a pretty reasonable price from this not-for-profit program. The space is huge, with the workshop area occupying the large front room and the entire back area devoted to finished bikes offered up to the public at prices ranging from $ 50(fixies and old, well worn stuff) to $ 300 and above(perfect vintage bikes ready to hit the road). Everything in the back room is ready to ride, and also available to test, so take your time. Trips For Kids functions as an afterschool program and gets some of its funding from people purchasing these finished bikes. Kids from the surrounding neighborhood(Belmont + NoDa mainly) come here and learn how to build bikes from the bottom up, what each part does and its proper name, and some business skills, as their creations are what fund their trips and parties. Volunteering here is a great idea if you love bikes and want to lend some time to an awesome local branch of a super cool program. Cash only.
