Nice place, good food. Servers were very quick and friendly. This was the perfect summer lunch spot after a morning in the sun.

Staff: Friendly and quick Atmosphere: Not quite your 50’s diner theme, but close. Lots of windows make it bright and welcoming. Menu: A wide variety of options at fair prices. It’s your basic diner menu with sandwiches, soups, burgers, malts, etc. Food: Yum, everything I expect from a malt shop diner. The food comes out quickly, and you don’t have to worry about leftovers. Portions are just enough to fill you up and leave you happy. The malts are delicious, and the choices are plentiful!

If you are within 20 minutes of this place it is a MUST go. Seriously, if you are looking for some delicious food and ice cream for a reasonable price this is the place to go. Tommy’s has that perfect small town malt shop feel. I ordered the cowboy, which is a cheeseburger with onion rings and barbecue sauce and my girlfriend ordered the honey glazed grilled cheese. She said the grilled cheese was different, but good. My cheeseburger was perfect! The onion rings were crunchy and well cooked, not soggy like you would sometimes expect on a cheeseburger. The burger was juicy and cooked to perfection. Now the best part, dessert. We came here excited to try their malts because friends of ours told us they were good, but that all changed when we saw the menu and they had a deep fried brownie sundae. We hesitantly decided to get that instead of malts(I mean cmon it’s called Tommys malt shop, it’s hard to not get malts). Our decision was not a mistake the brownies were warm and melty and the ice cream was great too!

This is the best place in the area to grab a classic burger, fries and malt. They make all their food to order; everything is fresh and delicious. My sister and I shared an order of fries that were hot out of the fryer and a malt. The malts are awesome. They have two sizes and every topping imaginable. This is one of my favorite spots west of the Twin Cities.

Wife and I are in the process of moving to chaska and I figured we would check out the food scene. We were pleased with our meal here, I had a Patty melt and smores Malt and she had a California burger and brownie Malt. We will definitely be returning, we enjoyed every bite!

Tommy’s Malt Shop is a great family restaurant. The wait staff is young, energetic and attentive. The old school décor and music from the 50’s and 60’s provides a nostalgic atmosphere. The menu is pretty limited but Tommy’s sticks to what they do best, burgers and malts. My particular favorite is the bacon feta chedda burger. Pair it with a delicious malt and you can’t go wrong. The prices are very affordable, especially for a weeknight dinner when you don’t feel like cooking. We love this place!

Love the food. Love the staff. But seriously needs a deep clean. Nothing bothers be more than eating in a place that is dirty. Even my 3 yr old looked in the kitchen and said«eeew that room is dirty». She then reminded me when I said it was«messy» that it was not messy but dirty. The bathroom floor was sticky and there was even a roll of toilet paper just sitting on the floor. Bums me out. I will go back but please clean it up.

Cute little local Chaska restaurant downtown by the river and a nice little river walk. I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich. It wasn’t great but my Chocolate malt was Delish.

My wife and I stopped on a Saturday at lunch time. It was crowded and we considered not staying. That would have been a mistake. Incredibly fast service, malts were great and the burger buns were toasted. A true hidden gem in a Minnesota small town. We will definitely be back.

We were not impressed. Soup was luke warm and there was nothing special about the hamburgers. The shakes were average at best. I am not sure why it was 4 stars.

The malt, which tasted good, was served in a warm glass and was mostly melted when we received it. The burger bun was burned so I removed that and just tried the burger patty, it had no flavor. I could only taste the raw onion on the burger. The server was very friendly but the hostess ignored us for a couple of minutes when we walked in.

I love their sweet potato fries, and they have a fried portobello burger that is phenomenal. The staff has always been awesome, and they interact with kids so well. We had one lady do a mini magic trick for our little boys! Also — customizable malts! This is a diner worth your time!

My husband and I wanted to «get out of Minneapolis» for a little bit, so after seeing this place online, we were on our way! What a treat. We started with some cheese curds… because, cheese curds. They were good. Not the greasy kind you would get in the bar, but still good. I had the Honey Glazed Grilled Cheese and fries. The grilled cheese was different and very good. My husband had a burger which he really enjoyed. We shared a malt — we did our own combo and I believe it was Peanut Butter, Oreo, and Brownie. So yummy. They also have 1919 Root Beer on tap and you can get it in a growler to go. Our server was very friendly and efficient. This place was like stepping back in time. Would definitely recommend it.

Food was good as was service. After reading the so-so hamburger reviews I decided to skip the standard burger and ordered a stuffed burger with peperjack cheese and chipotle sauce. I ordered it well done to make sure the cheese melted. It came to the table as ordered and it was tasty. My wife ordered the honey grilled cheese with a cup of tomato soup as a menu suggested substitution. Soup was a cream based tomato soup with basil. Both were very good. As mentioned in other reviews the staff were all teens and young adults. I couldn’t identify who was in charge however there was a team effort. Our server was busy taking another order so someone else brought out our food so that it was still hot. Still others would clear dirty dishes and yet another brought our bill. Overall a positive experience. Wouldn’t be a first choice for a destination night out but I wouldn’t hesitate to stop again if passing by.

Tommy’s is a great place to go in the small town of Chaska for a burger and malts. The burger patty is pretty thin, which is fine. The malts/shakes is really what this place has going for it. Prices are very reasonable which makes it great for families.

Not that impressed, not even with the shakes. Salad was not good at all. At least they used real raspberries in the shakes, but they were very runny and not thick. Service was friendly but slow. Bummer.

Stumbled in the morning after a Mystic Lake experience. It felt like we had found a hidden gem, and the service and malts we got prior to the burgers did nothing to dissuade us from that impression. Malts come as they did when you were a kid — even our half size malts came with the extra portion in the metal cup. However, the three of us thought the burgers were just OK. Not much seasoning and not up to Culver’s level. House fries were fine, not spectacular. Pricing was fine and atmosphere was fine as well. We were simply hoping for a bit more.

There were countless restaurants here before Tommy’s moved in, but it’s obvious why this one has thrived for years. Brett, the owner, purposefully designed the space for family interaction. No TVs blaring at you, no sports fans who might’ve had a «few too many,» just a hometown atmosphere with delicious food that promotes delicious conversation. I’ve had everything on the menu and I can honestly say that nothing is bad – the patties are never frozen and there’s plenty of combinations that can satisfy any mood you’re in. In the mood for something light? Get the Honey Glazed Grilled Cheese with Sweet Potato Fries. Want a hearty stick-to-your-bones kind of meal? Get the Tommy’s Lucy(yes melted cheesey goodness in between two patties!) with Onion Rings. Or my favorite – the mushroom and Swiss WITH an extra slice of cheese over the mushrooms(that last part is critical.) The malts are delicious as well and are HIGHLY customizable with plenty of candy and fruit mix-ins. It’s obvious watching the staff that they love their job and that Tommy’s is a well-run business that has become a Chaska Culture staple. If you haven’t been here – what’s holding you back?! Tommy’s Malt Shop is the place to be!

Restaurant Review A modern spin on malt shops. This location is modern but offers many different malt flavors. i ended up getting a sandwich and milk shake which was great given the quality of food. Very busy at lunch time though! Pro– Lots of malt/milk shake options Con– Meal slightly pricier than other options, small parking lot Hidden deal– None
