it’s like the blind leading the stupid, you pay for a specialest, but get a nurse practioner. i brought in old x rays of my knee, told dr these are before i injured knee. dr forgot to get new x rays of knee .and i had to drive back another 40 miles at 10 mpg, pay another $ 30.00 to have them x ray my knee. the elbow dr ordered a ct scan, than they say he is going out of town for 4 months, so i can get ct scan and a nurse will review it. bjc has a lot of mistakes because they try to run the system with students and dr wantabes.

I recently had shoulder surgery here and so far, the outcome has been great. My orthopedic surgeon is Jay Keener and I travel from Kansas City to Chesterfield(or his Wash U office in St Louis) to see him. On surgery day, things seemed well-organized and the vast majority of the staff were well-trained and did a great job at everything they did. The only reason I knocked them down a star is surgery day ended with a clunk. The nursing assistant who pulled my IV had no clue what he was doing and ended up blowing my vein wide open. Dude, when you pull an I.V., you must be patient and hold pressure for at least a couple of minutes. Also, when he wheeled me out to the car, it was clear he just wanted to get rid of me as fast as possible and didn’t really care if he did it safely. So overall, I would recommend this place. High marks for Dr. Keener. The anesthesiology staff were great as was most of the nursing staff.

I needed a little appointment to investigate a meniscus tear. Two, actually, in the same knee. Both little devils. The X-ray showed one torn. The MRI showed two torn. I thought this was duplicative until I saw the additional insight the MRI showed about the knee situation. Ridiculous pain. So I saw Dr. Rick Wright, orthopedic surgeon, on Monday(November 26) at this facility, which is a well-oiled machine, yet terribly personable folks working here. Today I had surgery. This place is amazing. Everybody who works here loves their job. You can tell by the way they treat their co-workers and their patients. Everything was smooth-running, including making arrangements for the cooling apparatus I needed for continual icing of the surgical site. And my sister, who accompanied me, was given a voucher for a free beverage at the coffee shop across the foyer. Debbie Reed, who checked me in; Joy, my nurse; Debbie Patterson, my intake nurse; Dr. Gibbons and Dr. Wolf, both anesthesiologists; Dr. Wright, who saw me before surgery and saw my sister after surgery; the surgical nurse who gave me happy juice and antinausea meds through the IV; the woman who helped me get dressed; the lovely man who took me out to the car and helped me in, who was so personable and friendly. I know I’m missing a bunch of folks. Please forgive me! Everyone was fabulous and knew what they were doing. Everybody I saw introduced themselves and told me what they were there for and what they were doing the entire time. Knowledge is helpful, establishes expectations and incites calm! The nurse who gave me instructions about after-care about medications, icing, things to look for in the way of complications was so thorough — even my sister was impressed, and she’s a nurse. This place is up on a big hill, but patient parking is up-top on a flat surface, so don’t be concerned you’ll have to mountain climb to get to the front door. P. S. Dr. Wright is a knee specialist, and he’s physician to The Blues and The Rams. I disguised myself as Lance Armstrong to get to see him. AHEM!

Before Lady Gaga, there was Madonna, who left the Michigan Dance Dept. for L.A. about the time that Therese H. arrived. Now, a quarter-century later, those lovely legs are afflicted by a few maladies. Thanks to a physician friend, GGfG was hooked up with BJC — Wash. U. Dr. Chi-Tsai Tang, who has managed her care since summer, including one hip joint injection. Before I prepared for this review, I didn’t know that Dr. Tang completed his residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in the University of Michigan Health System. Hey, Dr. Tang, Go Blue! When it seemed there was more going on than simple overuse osteoarthritis, Dr. Tang conducted some rheumatological testing, and speeded up evaluation with other physicians in the BJC-Wash U. practice. I can’t tell you how impressed we were to receive a phone call about diagnostic tests from Dr. Tang himself — not a nurse or assistant — who patiently explained and interpreted results, and described options for the path forward. We like this practice as much as any we’ve ever experienced: caring in deed not just word, careful diagnosis, and conservative treatments first.
