My furnace went out Tuesday night, found Fresh Air on Angie’s list and was impressed when they came out the same day. So far, so good. Todd, the tech, thought my issue was the thermocouple, but after replacing it he said that didn’t work, would likely need another $ 400 part. At that point I threw in the towel, old furnace was 23 years old anyway. I trusted Fresh Air to give me a reasonable price, and since the furnace was out, didn’t call around to check with other contractors. The bid was around $ 8500, which I found high, but at the time didn’t realize how high. The furnace was installed next day as promised. I spoke with two friends that same day who’d had comparable furnaces installed recently for about ½ what I paid. I trusted FreshAir since they were on Angies’ List, and let my concern for getting the issue resolved quickly overcome my need to thoroughly examine multiple bids for such a large amount of work. Looks like I got taken for about 4K, will be the LAST time I ever get large work done without multiple bids!
