First time there, very bad bacterial infection from a tuna sandwich. That was the last time for food there!

UPDATE: I told the clerk that I was giving them a bad review on Unilocal, which I did, mentioning the dirtiness and unfriendly service. I now see that they promptly gave themselves a glowing review that same day, citing the friendliness and cleanliness of the place. Not true. It needs renovation, or at least a deep cleaning, and an attitude adjustment. — — — - Dirty and unfriendly. That’s not even a deal breaker for me if the food is really good. But… I ordered a BLT and it came with two tiny, extremely thin slices of tomato. When I asked for two additional tomato slices, I was in turn asked by the proprietor in a rude, harsh way, «you want to pay?» When I finally realized that she was telling me I would have to pay for extra tomato slices, I asked how much and she told me it would be $.50. Seriously? The sandwich was way below average. Not enough tomato and the lettuce is shredded. Not good. I’m never going back. A sandwich place offering BLTs should be willing to give 2 small tomato slices to a customer at no charge. I felt slapped in the face by the rude way I was treated there.

Hot spot for local office lunch goers during the week, has a nice selection. Good little corner market.

I eat here almost every other day. They’re friendly and the food quality is good and made fresh. There’s a section for you to sit at and watch the national news if you choose to but I typically grab food and walk back to the office. The omelettes and bagel, egg, and bacon are my faves and are high quality. For about $ 5 you can get a hearty breakfast to start your day.

There is only one reason I go to this place — Eithopian food on Mondays! There really isn’t a menu to order off of, it’s done family style. You get a big plate(or to go box) with Njeera, different kinds of beef tibs, chicken wot, lentils, and usually 3 different kinds of vegetables. The sauces are well seasoned and spicy(not so much that your mouth burns, just right). The lady who runs the place knows I like the Njeera so she normally gives me enough for 3 people! Price isn’t bad for what you are getting either — $ 9.50 per serving. They also have beer, wine, deli sandwiches and things you would find in a convenience store, as well as a nice eating /restaurant area for you to enjoy your meal.

I have gone to this market several times. The sandwiches are very high quality with boars head meat. The air conditioning is always on blast in the summer and they have a tv with the news on. There is a comfortable area for eating and a wide selection of wines from all over the world. Sometimes they have free wine tastings on Friday.

Today I revisited this deli 6 years after I had stopped doing a delivery route in the area. The name/ownership have changed and the food quality seems to have improved greatly! The ingredients taste fresh and of high quality(Boar’s Head meat, fresh bread); and the sandwich size is ample. My only qualm is that the price is about $ 1.50 higher than a comparable sandwich elsewhere, but given the location and the quality of the food– it’s expected. This place is also a market offering beer, wine, and groceries to the apartment-dwelling denizens of Chevy Chase. I would say if you’re in the area it’s definitely worth a stop in. Not really a special destination for the out-of-towners.
