ONTHEMAP You know your neighborhood has made it when a major chain opens up. Personally I loved our hood being quiet with local businesses all around, then a few months ago they started remodeling the interior for a 7 – 11 location. On a side note: this place never closes. Why don’t they call it 24⁄7? It just seems like a better name. When I was a kid I grew up with a 7 – 11 kiddie corner from my house on the Northwest Side of Chicago. My visits were spent playing video games and grabbing Slurpees(do not tell my parents) but the one thing I always remember was my Mom sending me on errands here. Grab eggs or milk or bread. It was never a lot of stuff but it was stuff we needed and 7 – 11 was conveniently located to our house. So when I walked in here I wasn’t looking for a Slurpee or a Big Bite. I was looking for the items I may need in an emergency. The first thing I saw was a bag of ice. I was so happy to see that because ice is the essential ingredient to any great party. Luckily I’ve never run out of ice but knowing this would be my future life line in an ice emergency I was excited. While I continued to add things to my future emergency shopping list like beer, lemons and limes. My wife was starting her own future emergency shopping list but it included non party items like fresh eggs and milk. What? No no no those aren’t important unless we need to make a breakfast the morning after a party. Oh wait maybe these items need to be on my list too. Apparently I might have to start a pre-party shopping list here. The store is shaped like a triangle. It starts out small and gets wider as you head towards the back. The layout is a little weird but I can get use to it. The aisles seem wide but I’m sure in time they will add more items and this place may get very packed. The Blue Line is right out the front door so you can grab a snack and head to downtown or the airport. It is also on a six corner so major streets connect here: Grand, Halsted & Milwaukee. Yes this is a high traffic area of both cars, bikes and people on foot. So if you are in the area and you need a few emergency items or a quick snack then 7 – 11 is right here. You also don’t have to grab anything bad to eat because they also have fresh fruits like bananas. Yes I know the big bite seems tempting but remember it’s been in that roller all day long. There are no excuses when it comes to making a healthy choice because 7 – 11 has you covered. Welcome to the hood and I will be seeing you during times of emergencies.

Nothing too out of the ordinary but this was a much needed new Sevy location for this neighborhood. Pretty standard stuff. Chips, beer, Slurpees, and other 24 hour junk food. They do have bathroom that customers can use and even a drinking fountain, but besides that it’s par for the course.

So happy that this location is now open! The staff here are super friendly, very helpful … go out of there way to give you great service with a smile. I know we are talking about a convenience store … but in all sincerity … A visit here will be a bright spot in your day.

Typical 7 Eleven, but brand new and in a location I’ve said should have one for years.
