Best Korean food I have tasted in Chicago for a long time. I loved their bibimbap lunch and the service was excellent on a busy Friday noon– the two girls refilled my banchan(with huge portions! :)) and also brought the egg on top back to the kitchen to recook. For the price, I was extremely stuffed– the only caveat was that the food was a bit oily.

I ordered delivery and it took one hour and 30min. When I called them they told me that the food is already out and seems like the delivery company they are using is late, but when I got the food it was still warm. I seems like they were trying to blame it on delivery guy for letting the food out late. Also, kimchi pancake was burned.

I come to this restaurant whenever I feel like getting some nice and hot Korean military pot. I didn’t expect much because from what I remembered most authentic Korean restaurants are located somewhere up north of the city, but to my surprise, the Korean military pot they served here was very good! Their service was very good, too. The servers come many times to our table to offer water and make sure they provided everything we needed. They were always very friendly to our requests. The only reason I gave this restaurant a four-star review is bc of the inconsistency of taste among their other dishes. I’ve tried so many dishes, and most of them are so tasty that I wanted to come back more. But there have been some dishes I ordered that made me feel like they weren’t authentic. My fix? I stick with my favorite military pot!

If you’ve lived in Korea before, you’d know it ain’t authentic Korean food. But if you are craving then that’s okay. Go ahead, it’s not that bad?

I’ve been here a few times and loved it every one. It’s definitely my favorite Korean food in Chinatown/Chicago overall. The bibimbap is great, and it’s worth it to get the stone bowl because it makes the rice deliciously crispy. Also, I’ve always had fantastic service here.

Solid Korean restaurant, I’m unsure of why it is only rated 3.5*. Definitely the best Korean place in Chinatown and over much of the south side. The price is great and the atmosphere is super authentic. Also the service is great!

Sadly it seems like things have gone to the way side. They serve their own beers now seems like the main focus. The Bim Bop has been lack luster the last few times the rice wasn’t near being crisp or crunchy. The sides that are supposed to accompany the meal didn’t come until the last minute. This place started off awesome now it’s kinda mediocre they have the time and place to right this. It’s not far off, service could be better too with refilling tea and water. They can easily regain 4 stars if they put a little more effort into it.

It’s my 2nd time at the restaurant and sadly, it was pretty disappointing, not as I remember from my first time here in the summer. My sister and I got to the place at around 5.15ish, there were about 3 or 4 tables so it wasn’t very busy. We got seated quickly and ordered an appetizer, Tokbokki, and a noodle dish, Japchae, to share. It took the waitress a long time to bring out our little side dishes, which is a part of Korean restaurant that I really enjoy, so I was already a little annoyed(I was also starving!). Food wise, it was so sweet, to a point where we had to order a side of rice because we couldn’t handle the sweetness. Don’t get me wrong, both dishes were really flavorful, the rice cake was hot & spicy, but it was towards the sweeter side. A bonus is the portion is quite generous and shareable. My sister & I got really full and still left with a tiny bit of leftover. Service, though, was the worst. There were only 2 waitors, so I understand that dinner flow could pick up fast, but our waitress didn’t once come back to check on us after bringing out our food. We had to get the other waitor’s attention to order rice & more water. As we were ready to get the bill, we tried to make eye contact with her but she literally walked pass us so many times and didn’t bother to stop by at all. It was unprofessional and very displeasing. I’m willing to give it another try, solely because I love Korean food too much, hopefully with better service and well seasoned dishes.

When I’m craving Korean food, Ahjoomah’s Apron does the trick. I was wary at first due to the reviews but, honestly, this satisfies my Korean craving. I’ve tried the DDUKBOKKI(Korean rice cake, fish cake, boiled egg, and vegetables stir-fried in sweet and tangy sauce) and thought it wasn’t spicy enough, the sauce was too watery, and there wasn’t enough rice cake. I’ve also tried the JJUKUMIBOKUM(stir fried webfoot octopus with vegetables in sweet and spicy sauce) and thought the sauce was way too sweet but just the right amount of spicy. It came with three banchans(side dishes) and rice. Overall, this isn’t mom’s cooking or the best Korean food but, in a pinch, it’ll satisfy that craving. Until I find another Korean restaurant that does delivery, I’ll keep coming back.

We went with a big group of people. This place isn’t idea for larger groups because the size of the restaurant is small. We all ordered some appetizers and entrees. The service was slow and we had to keep reminding the server for water refills. After around 30 – 45 minutes most people got served. I waited and entire hour and asked the server multiple times to check on my order. He insisted it was on its way. An hour later someone else came out to say the order was not in the system and they had to renter it. The food would take another 15 minutes. Because it was late in the afternoon I ended up taking my meal to go. Bottom line: food is decent, ambience is decent but service is terrible. Definitely not a quick spot for lunch so make sure you provide ample time for your meal if you choose to go here.

This place is pretty good, although it’s run by Chinese and has a Chinese flare to it. There weren’t too many veggie options for me, so I got the ramen, which isn’t truly veggie either. I would go back to try the kimchi pancakes.

A nice hidden gem in chinatown, ahjoomah’s apron continues to serve delicious Korean food. During this visit we got the Dolsot bimbimbap and a ramen that was«less spicy». I’d like to tell you that the kalbi meat was good, but I didn’t have any, my partner ate all of it before I could get some. I’m assuming it was that delicious. The bimbimbap base was standard Korean, served in a sizzling cast iron bowl, lots of it. The ramen was still quite spicy. However when you poured the miso soup(came with the bimbimbap) it reduced the spiciness and added some extra flavor, turning the dish into one more tasty imo. Very surprised that the tables were filled on a Thursday night and they only had one server to start, although more showed up during the typical dinner rush hours. Service still good and quick.

Well, officially the worst Korean food i have ever had. And I promise I have had my great share of good Korean food in many places including Seoul, San Francisco, Chicago, Shanghai, Tokyo, Korean friends’ homes, some real dives, etc. name it. Never so wtf. So sorry to say this because i really liked the servers and thought were nice, good, hard working people. I am sure kitchen staff are same good way too. Unfortunately the end result(i.e. the food) got to be as bad as it gets. Clean restaurant. Sorry and best wishes.

Absolutely coming back again today for Ssamgae Tang and Boodae Jun Gol. If you haven’t gotten ready for winter, come for hot entrées! The only thing I might concern this time… the rice inside the chicken has not been fully cooked. Some parts were still freezing…

Sorry but it’s bad. Just bad. We ordered the bulgogi and some kind of noodles with black bean paste. The bulgogi came out like meat has been steaming or has been frozen and thawed many times — it was sickening! The noodles literally was udon smothered in pureed black bean paste. Very disappointing.

Never been to this place before. I’ve been craving Korean food awhile. I ordered Soontofu and dumpling filled for take out tonight. Soontofu was ok, although I wouldn’t say it’s the best… but the most problem food is the dumpling. I thought Korean style dumpling is Pan-Fried. Not deep-fried. I got the deep fried dumpling tonight. Which for me was also ok, but they seem to fry the dumpling too much at a time. So I can’t even eat those dumpling. It tasted really old and flat. And very hard to bite!

To start off, this place has a great ambiance! The restaurant was very clean and had pictures of Korean food hanging on the wall. I also liked the fact how they had bench styled seating instead of individual chairs. On top of the nice atmosphere, the food was great! It really felt like a homemade meal cooked by my mom! It was very authentic and they provided a nice variety of side dishes(banchans). If you enjoy spicy foods, I would strongly suggest the kimchi stew(jjigae). Overall, it was a great spot for lunch and I’ll definitely be coming back!

I get so full here. The Kimchi pancake could last for two meals, by is better when fresh off the pan. My partner got the pork bone soup and I got kimbap which was freshly made and sesame-oiled. Also recommend the vegetable mandu dumplings as appetizer. Everything was crazy fresh and spicy. Meal comes with about 6 free appetizers. The spicy squid and pork stirfry is chock full of vegetables and a fine balance of sweet, spicy and salty. So by and large all the dishes are solid except the ja jyang mein(black bean sauce noodles)… Even as a fermented bean dish it had a meatsauce-spaghetti taste and texture my partner and I didn’t expect and it was a surprisingly mediocre letdown. Just avoid that dish.
