My body is SORE after my two hour session with Asylum Stunts last night! The instructor, Laurie, is friendly and warm and tough as hell. Her enthusiasm for the work is inspiring. She made me feel like I was meant to succeed from the moment I walked in. The other students were of varying skill levels, some were pro stunt folks. I didn’t feel intimidated… I felt empowered and POWERFUL. The warm up included variations of shoulder rolls alone and with partners, then some time to make up a short fight to show, then the lesson of the evening. I was taught a hand to hand fight sequence with full contact hits. When I punched Laurie in the stomach, it made an awesome sound, but the technique I was taught moved from the elbow with a loose fist, so the impact was not injurious. We learned«gator» falls, which are flat-faced to the floor falls, where you absorb the impact with the forearms and thighs. We also did gators against the wall. I tripped on the way in to mine and smooshed myself pretty good. Hilarious. We also were taught roof falls. You know, where you roll off a roof. SOAWESOME. Can’t wait for the next session! The instructors are professional stuntwomen/men and stunt coordinators for film, tv and live projects. Lots of fun, lots of work, little bit of ouch!
