Dined for brunch on a Saturday– the waffle and the French toast were fantastic– great flavors. We ordered a side plate of fruit which was delicious, very ripe. A little expensive though. Coffee was good. Overall, impressed. We’d come back again.

Some good stuff but nothing to write home about unfortunately since the underwhelming options balanced out the good ones. Cool atmosphere with OK food. OK: monkey bread(appetizer), macaroni and cheese(appetizer), el alivio(cocktails) GOOD: flower girl(cocktail) AMAZING: white cheddar, bacon popcorn(appetizer), roasted pork(entrée) Details: I chose the cocktail el alivio because the other options seemed predominantly flowery, and I’m not a fan of flowery tasting things, but it turned out to be more flowery than a drink named ‘Flower Girl’! The popcorn — somehow the flavor of bacon is entrenched in the popcorn — so good. The roasted pork was fork tender and the mustard sauce was DELICIOUS.

Used to come here before the theatre, but stopped as the food and service declined. Took a recent CAF architectural tour of the historic Hotel Burnham and noticed that the Atwood had been totally redesigned. Decided to give it another try, and glad I did. The dining area is contemporary and minimalist, with high ceilings and large windows that look out on State Street. But it was a sunny day, so my sister and I decided to have weekend brunch in the small outside seating area. They were out of my first choice, the smoked salmon, so we agreed to split the burger and the pork tostado. The burger and fries were good, but the bacon topping tasted like it had been cooked hours before. The pork tostado was terrific… corn tortilla, black bean purée, guacamole, fresh salsa, topped with two eggs cooked to order. Our server Beth did a great job taking care of us, considering she also had customers inside the restaurant. No problem getting a coffee refill, and we never felt rushed. The brunch prices here are about right for the location and quality of the food, but $ 8 for two cups of coffee(served with our meals) left a bad taste in my mouth.

Can I give zero star? Poor service, long waiting time for food(more than 1 hour), and just OK quality food. Overrated and over priced. Don’t come.

I didn’t get to experience as much as I would like in order to rate a five. The service was great for lunch during the week. Everything was fresh and delicious.

Breakfast was filling and delicious. The décor is polished, open, and bright. Our server was snooty and smug before she«pulled some strings» to bring something that was listed on the menu. All in all, I’d give it another try.

I’ve been to Atwood more than a few times since they reopened and I’m definitely a big fan. Atwood is good for pretty much any meal of the day or for a drink. I personally like their brunch the most but I’m a sucker for a good brunch. I really like the décor here. It’s bright and open but has enough warmth to not be overwhelming. The big windows looking onto State St and Washington add to the airy feeling. My favorite dish is the truffled poached farm eggs. The eggs are really not the star of the show, don’t be fooled. The roasted vegetables and mushrooms are perfect with the grits. The eggs are the icing on the savory brunch cake. Of course the old favorites for breakfast/brunch are good here as well. The burgers and sandwiches never disappoint either. The service is consistently good at Atwood. My only complaint would be having to flag someone down for a refill or another drink. This doesn’t bother me so much here because they are busy, not just standing around. Aside from that everyone is always very nice and helpful. I think Atwood might be my new favorite place for brunch in the loop. But of course I’ll keep on trying any brunch that crosses my path just to be sure…

This was a very classy place in Chicago. I came here with my friend and we both really enjoyed my meal here. I got the Seared Alaskan Scallops. It was so good. The service here was good too. The price is not too bad, I’m not sure about Chicago, because I’m used to NYC prices. Portions are small, kind of like a typical gourmet size. Perhaps that’s what they are going for, but seriously for the price– meh. Maybe in France but this is America where we like lots of food. But with that said I’d still come back for more.

Every morning I walk past Atwood on my way to work. I ask myself, «why don’t I come downtown a little earlier so I can eat breakfast there?» I try not to stare at everyone inside eating but their breakfasts look so good it’s difficult. Last week my mom was visiting from Florida so we decided to try Atwood for breakfast. Of course, we were an hour late so we had lunch. We ordered some bloody marys to start and they were tall and delicious. We decided to get three starters to share because we were still in the mood for a light breakfast. We had the crispy chickpeas, beet pickled deviled eggs, and roasted brussels sprouts with bacon. The chickpeas were perfectly crisp on the outside but soft and pillowy within. Topped with cilantro microgreens – I don’t know where this recent trend came from but I love it – they were a perfect snack. They’d be great after work with a cocktail. The brussels sprouts roasted with bacon were just that and just as good as that sounds. The eggs were my favorite. My family are all big foodies and when we travel we make a list of our favorite cocktails, individual dishes etc… Well, the eggs were my favorite single bite. They were tart and decadent at the same time. Using pickled eggs to make deviled eggs is nothing short of genius. The staff was very friendly and helped explain menu items with ease. I can’t wait to go back for cocktails and snacks after work one day and maybe even breakfast if I can get up in time.

I came here with my uncle on a weekend morning after we discovered the wait at Wildberry was an hour. He called Atwood and was told that they had a table available immediately. I had a latte and the truffle poached farm eggs, which comes atop grits. So delicious. The décor and service were fantastic as well. I’ll be back someday!

Historic pre turn of the 20th century Burnham building, stylish freshly upgraded space appropriately designed for the building. Large windows overlooking State bring in lots of light, and in the evening a sexy noir-ish yellow hue. Generous space between the tables, high ceilings and very pleasant and professional staff. I’m not a big duck person but ate half of my friends dinner and was surprised how good it was. In thought the drinks could have been a little bigger and stronger as compared to some of the more seriousv cocktail places in town. Easy fix.

I visited this restaurant on a weekday, with my boyfriend and another couple. The ambiance is definitely nice. Newly renovated with very modern décor. It’s a relatively quiet restaurant and romantic for a date. We got the following items for the table to share: Beet-Pickled Deviled Eggs, Midwest Cheese Board, Savory Monkey Bread, Cauliflower Gratin, Mac N Cheese and Potato Stout Soup. All the food we had was good, nothing out of the ordinary. I wasn’t particularly impressed or disappointed. The deviled eggs were delicious, however you get 2 pieces of ½ and egg — wish the waiter mentioned that when we had said we were ordering for the table to share. The cheese board was very standard — some of the cheeses tasted quite the same to me. I wouldn’t recommend it. For the price of the food, I did not think it was worth it. I was full but still left unsatisfied at the end of the meal. The service was the biggest disappointment here. We had to go searching for our waiter or ask another member of the wait staff to call him to serve us water, take our order, give us our check, etc. Overall, the food was good, but at the prices I wouldn’t go back. The portions are extremely small and did not think it was worth it.

Solid brunch in the Loop, which was a pleasant surprise. The Truffled Poached Farm Eggs were devine, and the name just doesn’t do the taste profile enough justice. The dish sits on a bed of buttery grits, with a umami mushroom ragout on top, fried onions, and poached eggs. Altogether in one bite, it’s a flavor explosion and very comforting. I also tried a few bites of my dining companions’ short rib hash and apple salad with crispy prosciutto. Both were delicious in their own rights – the salad was sweet, tart, and crispy, and the hash was meaty and stewy, a little something for everyone!

Ate here twice for lunch in one week; both times the food and service were fantastic. The best lunch item was probably the lamb cheesesteak– a good size portion(with *plenty*of lamb) plus a side of fries or salad. The drink options were great(tap list and bottle list have an impressive mix of local/regional/domestic choices), and the space itself was beautifully redone with the original façade. Also, as far as sit-down lunch options go, here’s the best part: Atwood is very quick. Both times I had lunch the wait for food was never more than 8 – 10 minutes, even when the restaurant was packed. So you have more than enough time to sit, relax, order, and eat, before having to head back to the office.

Meh. It’s def not my scene. Food is decent. Service is accustomed to abusive old ppl(you can tell their souls are broken.) nice space. Cheese plate — nice selection but you can’t mix with the meats. Rolling my eyes… Pretzel and bacon cheese dip– amazing! Apple salad — nice. Nothing bad. Pork sliders — legit. Wine was ok. Serving size is absolutely teeny. Idk I think I’m just used to wicker park…

We’ve always wanted to eat here. We had an early Sunday AM breakfast before the auto show. The food was good, but naturally a little pricey since it’s a boutique type of hotel. By 10am it was surprisingly busy. It’s a very pretty space — more modern than we expected. I had poached eggs with grits and roasted vegetables. Delicious.

During restaurant week, a couple of my friends and I stopped by for dinner. The restaurant’s exterior still has the historical architecture which is gorgeous to admire while the interior has modern décor and furniture(newly renovated… I believe). After taking a quick look over the restaurant week menu, a couple of us opted to order from the regular menu. We all shared the following: Lamb Meatballs — cumin, scallion, cilantro, Szechuan peppercorn sauce. The flavor of the meatballs were nothing exceptional, but good nonetheless. I appreciated that it wasn’t overly gamey(something that other restaurants seem to struggle with). Duck Fat Fried Chicken Thighs — sriracha honey glaze. While ordering this dish, we were expecting a crispy exterior with a slightly sweet and spicy sauce. To our surprise, the texture of the chicken were soggy, oily, and full of fatty skin. The flavor was also disgusting. It was just super sweet and not spicy. Crispy Braised Bacon Sliders — apple, celery root & kohlrabi slaw, and herb aioli on a brioche bun. The flavors of the sliders went extremely well with each other. Crisp apples and celery root, creamy aioli, and smokey bacon. I just found the cook on the bacon to be slightly over because the meat was really tough to chew. Mac & Cheese — Gruyère, cream cheese, and aged white cheddar topped with bread crumbs. Everyone on Unilocal said this dish was absolutely delicious and a must order. We all actually hated this and didn’t even eat more than one bite each. The whole dish was just a glob of cheese and the flavors just didn’t go well with each other. The bread crumbs were just tossed on top, adding nothing to the dish. Savory Monkey Bread — lemon, Parmesan, and thyme. We all agreed this was probably the best thing Atwood had to offer. The bread was soft and the parmesan had a good crisp to it. Hunter’s Meatloaf — bacon wrapped, mashed celery root, mushrooms, and huckleberry demi. The meatloaf was one of the worst meatloaves I had ever tasted. The other components were good and the flavors went well with each other, but the meat was crumbly and lacked salt. S’mores Baked Alaska — chocolate cake, graham cracker ice cream, homemade marshmallow. The chocolate cake was dry while the marshmallow was overly sweet. The only good thing was the ice cream. It was extremely creamy and the flavor was spot on. Overall, this restaurant was a huge disappointment. Our waitress was extremely nice and attentive, but I wish she would had checked up on the food and noticed that we barely ate any of the entrees. I would definitely pass on this restaurant. Save your money and spend it elsewhere.

Located in the bottom of a Kimpton hotel, this place is loud. Imagine a full open lobby converted to a restaurant. I say this because that is what it feels like. There aren’t really much int he way of walls, and the noise is loud. It was really hard to have a conversation. The cocktails were very good. The food and appetizers, new American dishes were very solid.. but not memorable.\ Its like the place you go with coworkers, and they end up paying, and afterwards your like — well that was good.. . but would I go back? no. Not unique enough, quality enough, reasonable enough. . There are .too many places in Chicago to eat.

I was surprised! Living close to State Street I hardly go to many hotel restaurants or bars. But I’m happy to have gone here for brunch with a girlfriend on a Saturday morning with limited choices of restaurants in the area open at 10 or earlier on a weekend. The hotel and dining area is gorgeous. It has a chic type of design, with vintage elements, and you feel like you stepped into a showcase room. From the friendly hostess, bus boys, to our waiter, everyone was very accommodating and friendly. I ordered a cappuccino and my friend ordered coffee. My cappuccino was perfectly frothy and at the perfect temperature. It’s one of the few and rare best brunch menu’s I’ve ever seen. It has lots of options that all sound fantastic. I got the beef short rib hash with over easy eggs. The potato hash was seasoned just right, not that salty, and made in house. The beef short rib was breaking apart so easily and went perfect with the potato and eggs. It was a large dish so if you want to share– it’s not a bad idea. My friend got a dish with truffle which was outstanding. Our service was great. Our waiter was attentive and helpful and he named a special which sounded great. I will definitely return!
