Beef Shack

No frills place to get solid food that leaves you full and satisfied. I recommend getting the chipotle mayo chicken sandwich with a side of fries. It’s odd though because sometimes these guys are the nicest people in the world and sometimes they’re half as friendly.

I really enjoyed the food. The beef sandwich was juicy, cheesy, and oh so garlicky! It was awesome! Fries are good as well. The shack sauce is boss. Friendly staff.

Looking for a great Italian beef sandwich while in Chi town brought me to this place. Thank you fellow Unilocalers for pointing me in the right direction. The sandwiches are fantastic and the fries are yuuuge.

Absolutely phenomenal beef sandwich. I tried the Beef Shack about 3 weeks ago for the 1^st time and I now go there for lunch with a co-​worker at least twice a week. Very nice décor and one of the best beefs I’ve ever had.
I’ve been wanting to try other items, but the beef is so good that every time I walk in the door, I order the beef and the boss man even knows how I like it. GREAT PLACE… give it a try.

Okay, I’ll admit, from the outside, I thought this place would be awful. Boy, was I wrong. Great beef sandwich, very tasty. Fries are fantastic. My friend had the cheesy beef on garlic and gave me a taste, also terrific. Don’t be fooled by the outside. It’s great.

Unbelievable costumer service. Opened their doors early for me when they saw me walk by to check the hours 15 min before they were supposed to open. Brought food to my table and asked if I needed any ketchup. Very friendly and great environment. Oh and the burger and cheese fries were AMAZING.

I ordered the Groupon and enjoyed it so much that i ordered another one when I got home. I got the cheesy beef on garlic bread with an order of fries and it came out to just about $ 10. The beef sandwich was really delicious, if anything, I’d maybe look for it to have a bit more juice next time. The fries… man…the fries were unbelievable. And they give you an enormous portion that leaks into the bag. Friendly service and I’d highly recommend it.

Hopefully this place stays in the Lakeview area because I just found my new place to travel out of the way to get an Italian beef sandwich on garlic bread. Not many places do the garlic bread thing. The garlic taste could of been a bit stronger but very good bread. The beef was very good. Nicely seasoned. Ordered extra meat because I saw pictures of the sandwiches and didn’t seem like it had a lot of beef. So I ordered extra meat to be on the safe side. The fries are fresh cut and greasy to my liking. The brown bag way is so old school and that right there is how it should be. Very tasty and you get a lot. The price is very good. 2 extra meat beefs with two heaping orders of fries for 25 bucks. Very good for the portions.

Wow! What a great place! The only bad thing is that they are 2 blocks from where I work. Every day is a struggle not to eat there! The atmosphere is clean and new, the food is amazing! Get the cheesy beef, its to die for!

BEEF SHACK! This was a religious experience for me. Granted, I was pretty hungover, so anything greasy would’ve satisfied me, however I’m glad I didn’t just get «anything.»
I got the beef sandwich and splurged on the garlic butter for the bun. OH the garlic butter! Watching the open-​faced and cheesy sandwich journey through the toaster was a seriously sexual visual.
Word to the wise: get the cheese fries too, unbutton your pants, and feel no shame.

This place sucks. The beef is underseasoned and undersalted. Fries were okay. The fact that this place is even compared to Portillo’s is a joke.
Don’t waste your time or money here. Go to Big & Little’s instead.

This hot beef belongs in your mouth. Incredibly tender. Not over cooked. Bread held up to the juice very well. This is definitely one of the top beefs I’ve tried in Chicago. Hot peppers added the final touch of crispness to complete the ensemble. Ordered via über eats (no complaints, they were fast and prompt) but will definitely visit the physical location when I’m in the neighborhood. Great job Beef Shack! My mouth thanks you.

Wow! Best Italian Beef I’ve had since I moved to Chicago 40 years ago!
I always wondered what the big deal was in Chicago with Italian Beef, but now I know. I ordered it it on garlic bread with hot and sweet peppers and it is amazing. This finally tastes like someone is bringing the sandwich into the 21^st century. The bread elevates the sandwich to another level. Great fries too. This is my new go-​to place for Italian Beef.

Thanks to Groupon– I bought, I came, I ate. It was great– Cheesy Beef, Garlic Bread and French Fries. The beef was tasty and enjoyed the way the cheese was all nice and gooey melted just right, My beef had the perfect dip to it. Tasty!
Fries were as good as it gets– fresh cut, and made to order. Large for the price.
Didn’t have to fuss with ketchup packs– they had nice small containers good for eating in or for take out.
The staff was super nice too, added bonus– I will be back even if I don’t have a groupon. There are now a lot of great choices for decent fast good food in this stretch of Belmont, to me it’s all a matter of parking, which can be tough at times– Beef Shack is worth the parking search.

I had a cheesy beef garlic sandwich and it was delicious. The size of the sandwich can definitely supply your hunger especially because it is very stuffed. I got a side of french fries as well that I couldn’t eat at all because I was already full. Anyway, you have an option to order the fries with the House sauce that is sooooo yummy!!!
The only thing I didn’t like was the drink options in the soda fountain. They didn’t have coke zero :/

Very tasty; got a combo (mini), fries and a soda for $ 9, and I left pretty full thanks to the mountainous bag of fries. Seriously, the bag almost feels bottomless given how small the bag looks when they put it on your tray. I thought the beef was incredibly tender and pretty tasty, not my top dog but very good. Fries were perfect.
I don’t live close to this location, otherwise I would probably add this to my rotation (for now, that’s Boston’s). Lots of space to sit here; not sure if it’s BYO or not. Solid entry into the neighborhood!

Beef and hot dog spots are a standard around Chicago. It’s somewhat difficult to find THE place to get Italian beef sandwiches, and I have to admit: I’d rather scarf down a hot dog than a beef sandwich. Against my MO, I ordered an Italian beef on garlic bread (w sweet peppers and «juicy»…not dipped) and lost my sh** over it. It’s so hard to mess up Italian beef, but this sandwich was absolutely incredible. Enough that I turned around to the kitchen and exclaimed across the restaurant that everything was delicious. Poor Clark was a bit embarrassed that I did that… but oh well. I am seriously impressed by this little place!
I feel bad bc every time I walk past this place, it’s never full. Perhaps it’s bc they opened in January and aren’t RIGHT next to the Belmont stop (is everyone working out and eating healthily after the new year?!) but I’m hoping that this summer sees the pace pick up significantly here. It’s WORTH the extra couple block or two for incredible garlic bread beef cheese pepper deliciousness. Trust me.

I have been there twice. The beef is not of the quality of the great Chicago Beef Stands. You can get that type of beef in hot dog stands around town. The fries need work. Sometimes hard as sticks. The décor is great. Unless they start using a real Italian Beef recipe, this place will not last in the City.

I love Chicago food and one of my favorite things is a well crafted Italian beef. I can honestly say that this place makes the best beef in Chicago. They also have REALLY good fries. I am happy that this place is open for business and I hope it does well. The food here is really good.
