The pizza at Beggars is alright. But, there are several places in Chicago where you can get better pizza.

My first post got deleted. The truth hurts I guess. We arrive for a quick before hoping the train to Milwaukee. I ordered a combo sandwich and my girl a personal pizza. My sandwich arrives in 5 min. No pizza. 25 minutes later after I have eaten the pizza arrives. The crust appeared to be a preformed Sysco style crust. Average sauce and topping. My sandwich was impressive and the highlight. Back to the service. It was slow and this is an amateur mistake. I still tipped him $ 7.50 on a $ 31.00 check.

I was definitely not impressed. I sat down at a tab here for dinner and the writer left us alone for about 30 minutes before even getting our order. When the pizza finally came out, it was cold. The drinks were expensive and the salad was soggy.

Came here for dinner with a friend of mine on our last night in Chicago(we were visiting from California on a train-watching trip) and eating here was a great relief after buying most of our dinners from the food court in the train station(this place seemed to be the only real restaurant in that part of Downtown that was a short walk from our hotel and we did not have a rental car at the time). While the specialty here in pizza, they also have a selection of pasta and other items for variety. While my friend ordered the pepperoni pizza, I got the Spaghetti with Marinara sauce and it and the garlic bread that came with it was really good! Of course I had to have a piece of pizza as well and it too was quite tasty. The atmosphere was warm and inviting and not crowded, so we could talk about the trains we had seen that day and leaving on the train the next day without having to yell. Overall, it was a great place to relax after spending the day watching trains in the snow at Dolton Junction. The only reason I don’t give it five stars was the service was rather slow, but the staff was very friendly and the food was good, and that’s what matters.

Free cheesy bread with Unilocal check in! A very good alternative to dominos, Pizza Hut, and papa johns. Also a great dine in and bar. I would say this is actually comparable to big mommas in Los Angeles. From the pics, I think the non deep dish square cuts are preferred. Sorry, phone was charging so I don’t have any pics :(

Depending on what you order you might have a 20+ minute wait so make sure you have time you can kill but the food is really worth waiting for. Decent atmosphere and prices are good considering the sizes. Don’t let a Small size order fool you by its name.

Went here on a Recent visit to Chicago, first time having Chicago style pizza in CHICAGO, wow the deep dish weighed about 8 lbs… was good and hot! Something my friends and I were not used too. The star of the night was their sweet hot wings. WOW!!! will definitely be my first stop next time I’m in CHICAGO.

I noticed many people had problems with the service, but I ordered delivery so I can’t really comment on that. My coworkers order the thin crust all the time for lunch events and every time I’ve had it it’s been good. The thin crust tastes like many other places’ thin crust. That’s not really a bad thing nor is it good. It doesn’t stand out to me really, but I’m sure it’ll still hit that greasy pizza craving that most people get. I’ve had several toppings: pepperoni, sausage, veggie, and cheese. None of them were bad. I love trying new deep dish places around Chicago, so naturally I ended up ordering the deep dish with sausage at Beggars. I’ll say that the deep dish is more unique than their thin crust. I really liked that they put a bunch of red sauce on the top of the pizza. A lot of deep dish pizzas skimp on the red sauce which honestly makes the pizza lose a lot of potential flavor. The sausage was good. They give you pretty big chunks of it. The best part, in my opinion, is the crust. It had a yeasty flavor to it which made it stand out to me and added bonus flavor. It didn’t feel like I was eating bland crust. When I got to the crusts of the pizza, I actually looked forward to eating them. I wouldn’t mind eating a Beggars deep dish pizza again. Would I go back there instead of trying a new pizza joint? Probably not. Would I order from there again because it’s the only deep dish place open at the time? Heck yeah.

Beggars for when you’re beggin’ for deep dish. My boyfriend and I were watching some animé and trying to decide what to eat. After a long day of work, ballet and rehearsal, we decided we wanted to have some pizza. I’m so glad he enjoys deep dish as much as I do(because most people in Chicago HATE it — sad face). The pizza was phenomenal, got there at a reasonable time, well priced. The only reason why I couldn’t give it a 5-star is because it was missing its… je né sais WHAT! It doesn’t come close to Giordano pizza, but it is a total worthwhile based on prices and service. We got it for delivery, and I can only imagine how much longer it would’ve taken the pizza chain to get to me. Glad we did this. We ordered a large and had it for a couple of nights in a row. They do have amazing crust though! Very cute to get each other bloated and watch some animé. :D *Note, we had rumbly tummies for the rest of the evening*

Love coming here. I’ve only had there pizza and yes it’s a bit salty but I still enjoy it. Go straight to the counter and order if you’re getting a slice or pasta and sit down. Why are you going to wait for a waitress? Just saying. Yes I have seen them and they are slow. Counter people and management are very nice. Love coming here.

The pizza is decent. It can be a little salty but the cooks are generous with the cheese and the sausage/pepperoni. I can’t comment on the other dishes because I’ve only eaten the pizza. I rate the pizza 3 stars. The service is terrible. It’s difficult to get the attention of the waitstaff even when the restaurant it’s not busy. On my last visit I got tired of waiting to be served and ordered my slices at the to-go counter. The woman seated across from me waited patiently for a server to stop by her table which took about 20 minutes. I was almost done with my food and my table-neighbor was just getting a menu. She’s still waiting for someone to take her order while I type this review and prepare to leave. There are 3 servers chatting behind the bar and only 6 occupied tables. There is no reason for the service to be this slow today. Minus one star for the terrible service.

Usually get sausage or bbq pizza from here… Both options are fantastic. Tonight, ordered the taco pizza because we were feeling festive. It was disgusting. $ 30 for this wasn’t worth it. The tomatoes were huge and not even warm. The olives also smelled funny.

Yes, it’s a pizza place and we should of had that. This was for the kids, chicken strips and fries $ 8+ for for strips and fries. The put it in a plastic container and it made the fries soggy and slimy, the chicken was dry and over cooked. Food was greasy and it seemed like the oil was not fresh. Time quote 20 minutes for this, obviously too long because they over cooked! I’m glad I bought myself a Potbelly’s sandwich next door!

Disclaimer, I’ve only had their takeout. We decided to try Beggars after getting our groove on at Grant Park. We placed the order just before leaving Grant Park and they told us the order would be ready in 30 minutes. By the time we walked to the car and arrived, it was about 20 minutes. So after 15 minutes of waiting, my brother goes inside to pick up the pizza and they said it wasn’t ready yet, that it would be another 15 minutes. I showed my brother the Unilocal Deal of free garlic bread that he could get. Thankfully Beggars redeemed it. We ended up waiting another 20 minutes before the 2 pizzas were ready, almost an hour later. Gah! We got home and the pizza was just ok. The deep dish pepperoni didn’t have much flavor. The thin crust sausage just ok as well. Not bad, but not great. The free garlic bread though… SALTYASHECK!!! It was all salt and maybe a hint of garlic and butter. It was gross. Ugh, they can keep their free garlic bread. Overall, just a meh pizza.

Can I just review the bar? I had the misfortune of stopping in here for some alcoholic refreshment on my way to dinner in the neighborhood. I took a seat at the bar and ordered a Manhattan. They did not have the brand I called for, Maker’s Mark, which just amazed me, although I suppose a bar can run out of a very popular brand. I said fine, it’s OK to use something else. The bartender came back a few minutes later and said she did not have the ingredients for a Manhattan. I said fine and ordered a glass of wine. At this point, a regular sitting on my right started a conversation with a regular sitting on my left. This loud conversation ignored my presence – they were talking at high volume over and above me the whole time. I looked around for another seat at the bar or an open table and there were none. The situation was hopeless. Read some of the other reviews – people complain about the rude staff. Now it makes sense – rude staff, rude regulars, they found each other here. This place is a blight. Abandon all hope ye who enter here.

Ran in for a quick slice this evening while I was waiting for a train. It’s proximity to the train station makes it convenient. Its cheap food and the deep dish is pretty authentic. They run out of slices early so if there’s a certain kind you’re hankering for, get there early! The slice prices include tax which also pretty great.

When Beggars says that they lay it on thick, they’re not kidding. We ordered a basic extra cheese pizza, size medium, for two of us. It was plenty of food for two hungry, semi-sober guys. The pie was hot and delicious. And oh man, was it loaded up with cheese. I can’t speak to the brick-and-mortar restaurant(we ordered online and had it delivered), but I’m a big fan of the pizza. Online order process was smooth and user-friendly, and it arrived spot on time. I’ll be visiting Beggar’s in person soon. Update further then.

Strange little pizza restaurant. I almost didn’t go because one of my Unilocal friends gave them a 2 Star rating and I trust her. Especially when it comes to pizza. However, it was late, I was tired and didn’t want to venture to far from my hotel. It satisfied my pizza craving and killed the hunger pains, but I was not totally impressed. The place in itself is weird and confusing, does not have a well laid out floorplan. I thought it was all order at the counter service, which I was totally comfortable with. However, once I got my pizza and was seated in the dining area, other diners were receiviing table service. How do they keep straight who is who. One table was waiting and finally an employee who was running food, stopped and asked them if they wanted table service. I’d be so confused and I’m an organized man. Any way, I ordered a thin crust pizza with pepperoni and a deep dish with sausage. Being from Saint Louis, I naturally favor a thin crust pizza, but when I come to Chi-Town, I want to experience deep dish. The deep dish here was a major disappointment. It being served at U.S. Cellular Field home of the White Sox, did not impress me. The sauce on top is always a treat, but this deep dish crust was no where near the quality I have experienced at other Chicago pizza joints. My thin crust pepperoni was actually good. The bottom of the crust has nice charred crispiness to it. The top was covered with a good amount of cheese and plenty of the heart stopping pepperoni. Now to answer the $ 1.99 question, would I come back. Yes, if necessary, but I would not make it an priority or effort.
