I started going to yoga here about 3 months ago and fell in love with it. This place is so relaxing. Their are a variety and diverse group of people that attend the classes and everyone is so pleasant and respectful. The instructors are very nice and informative. I love the variety of classes and teachers they offer so your never bored or stuck doing the same moves. I’m so happy I joined BYC.

I recently signed up for a day of yoga and meditation retreat thru this company. It was a a day long retreat that included lunch and dinner. The morning half was great all meditation and VERY basic yoga poses(downward facing dog, and cat/cows thats it). After completing morning session and before lunch Carly wanted feedback and I did ask if we were going to be practicing yoga in the afternoon, she said no. Inside i was disappointed and confused as this retreat was advertised as a YOGA and MEDITATION retreat. For the record I have gone on a retreat before and was so moved by the experience that I could not wait to find another… What really thru me over the edge was the food option. We were given some overly sauced pasta salad, a choice of cheese or sausage frozen pizza and some soups options… really??? Yoga retreats are full of healthy food options correct??? At least the one I had done previously… there wasn’t even any sort of protein… Nonetheless as great as this retreat seemed it theory it wasn’t for my liking and I left. I did email Carly the instructor explaining my reasoning and apologizing for leaving however I am yet to hear back from her. I would be very cautious in signing up for any retreats with this company if you desire to actually deepen your yoga practice. If mediation if solely your desire then go for it. Had the advertisement stated meditation retreat I would not have signed up… which is what it should have said. Namaste

I booked the beginner’s package here, which involves a four week(once a week) class that lasts for a little over an hour. BYC likes to give you a fresh taste of yoga by giving you four different instructors over that period. You get to see the different styles of teaching and technique each have, which comes in handy if you plan on taking regular classes after the initial process expires. If you’ve never tried yoga and are nervous to take that first step; please don’t let your fear guide you! I am a big awkward loaf, and am about as flexible as two-by-four board. But no matter your fitness level or flexibility, BYC will accommodate you with alternative ways to pose and a plethora of props to get you through. So harness your inner chi and be on your way to claim inner peace!

This place great. I confess, I’ve only been there once, but I am going back! I live nowhere near there… I live near Midway Airport. I have searched and searched the south side for yoga options near my house and have found slim pickings. I used to go to Global Yoga Center when I lived up north, so I have developed expectations about what environment should be like when I practice yoga. BYC totally met those expectations. I dropped in on a Sunday evening Yin class, which was totally new to me.(BYC has descriptions of all of its classes on its website). They have a bunch of workshops coming up and I am excited about doing a couple of those. It’s a clean, peaceful and friendly place. And unlike the north side, parking was plentiful. For me, it is well worth a ½ hour drive to get there for a yoga fix.

oftentimes, i get to relive a favorite childhood activity with my three year old — swinging so high(i scare myself), playing tag(and rarely being«it»), coloring outside the lines(on purpose), eating stuff that is usually«meant» for kiddie consumption, etc… but i also find myself living vicariously through my three year old. sometimes because i just can’t physically do the things she does — like yoga poses at the beverly yoga center. now, admittedly, i’ve never been to another yoga center so, i can’t really compare the beverly yoga center with any others. but, i can tell you what i do know. the main space seems small but it’s open, bright, sunny, welcoming and calming. the hardwood floors look very new and are very clean. except for one wall, it’s mostly windows. but, since you’re on the second floor, all you see is sky, a roof here and there and tree branches. they do have air conditioning and fans which were great when we had that heat wave. there are little cubbies when you walk in the door for your personal items. and there’s a very clean, private, modern bathroom towards the back of the space. they have mats and other equipment for student use. and for extra brownie points, they don’t bat an eye, when i have to break out a boob to feed my son. carley, the director was very helpful and proactive when i tried to sign my daughter up for classes when the center’s phones were out of order. we played phone tag forever, but she was never impatient or annoyed about it. she’s very friendly and«genuine». my daughter’s teacher, adenia, is truly awesome. she has a talent for teaching children, keeping them interested, allowing them to express themselves physically and verbally, always engaging their imaginations, etc… she’s very patient and kind and always happy to encourage with hugs. and she’s probably as flexible as gumby. :) the center has a bevy of classes for all levels — for beginning to advanced students, toddlers to octogenarians. so, if you’re interested you should check them out. in some ways, the beverly neighborhood looks like it’s playing catch up with the northside neighborhoods. so, i have to applaud and encourage carley and the beverly yoga center for taking a chance on the beverly community and anchoring their center here. i know as soon as our youngest is a little older, i’ll be signing up for a beginners class as well. maybe i’ll see you there! :)
