Cocula Restaurant

I love Cocula’s! I’m a commuting flight attendant, so I go to Chicago when I’m working. It’s walking distance from the hotel I stay at near Midway airport. The food is very authentic. I am typically the only Caucasian there. The atmosphere is festive. There is sometimes a live Mariachi band performing. It is a large restaurant, so it’s good for large parties. I have a hard time finding good mole where I live, so it’s always a treat to get it at Cocula’s. Everything I’ve had there is delicious– including the chips and salsa. The portions are large, and reasonably priced. A destination for me when I’m in the Midway area.

Stopped here because it was the closest thing before my son fell asleep in the car. One of the worst experience ever. My mom and I ordered and the food came out 2 mins later. Food was cold. That gave me the idea that the food is just lying in the kitchen. I ordered the 1 taco 1 enchilada and 1 Tostada. The taco was in a taco shell. Why wasn’t this in a tortilla? The meat in the taco was taco meat they sell at Pete’s Market or Cermak Produce. The tostada was really soggy. Beans were horrible and straight out of the can. I just don’t know how this place is packed all the time. we didn’t finish our plates. Left the plates full. We let the waitress know and she said «oh your food was cold» and took our plates.

Good margaritas but the service is absolutely horrible. I have been here a few times hoping the service would improve but I was wrong. The waitresses are just bad

The shrimp fajitas are my favorite dish there. Served with rice and beans and 3 or 4 huge potatoe wedges. Margaritas are awesome except for the original lime flavored one. I did bring it to our waitresses attention although she did nothing about it. The rest of the staff is friendly amd take their time to explain the menu.

Ive been to this location several times. I never oder any of the dishes. If heard they aren’t anything out of the ordinary. I stick to tacos and tostadas. Which aren’t bad. the Alpastor is very greasy. On Sat we wanted to put together a last minute Graduation dinner for my cousin. We called around 4pm to ask for reservation for 12. They said they would not accept it. At that point we should have looked else where. Instead we did a walk in around 4:30pm. I did let the hostess know that my reservation was not taken. She didn’t acknowledge or say anything about it. The restaurant was empty. Even then service was slow. We ened up being 16 in total. we ordered different dishes and cocktails. The picher of pina coladas was weak at best. We weren’t trying to get drunk but a bit of a kick would have been nice. Don’t get me started on the mariache. My mom asked them for one song. Then they creppy hung around during our entire meal. At $ 20 a song. No please let us eat in peace. I think they should make it a point to have them understand that if we don’t request anymore that means go away. It was not an enjoyable meal. Food was just ok. We didn’t get our water refilled. I honestly don’t want to come back to this place.

Came here with my family on a Friday night expecting a good dish and service. Alright well let me start off by saying that the Michelada wasnt bad at all, rather tasty actually; however, it was impossible to enjoy anything when every 10 min i had to deal with the waitress’ droopy face and dumb attitude. If you’re going to include gratuity in a bill, at least earn it. I wanted to say something so bad but i didnt want to seem like a bad person. The food was okay, not what it’s set out to be though. Like i said, everything was pleasant other than the horrible and bland attitude from the waitress.

Went there for the $ 5 margaritas which were good I had the burrito suizo nothing to out of the ordinary real friendly service

Other than that no. I come here once in a blue moon in the past years because someone wants to try it, fine. I’ll order what is safe, enchiladas or chilaquiles. Every time it is a disappointment. My mom was so disappointed when we went in late and she ordered some type of pork in some type of red sauce. They told her they ran out of the sauce and she explains that they have frozen portions they thaw for the next day. SERVICE, is horrible!!! Good luck on even getting your order in. The ladies just stand there talking. The place is beautiful though and spacious, I just wish they had good service and food. (after years of dropping in, nothing has changed.

The chips were good… Shrimp was slimy and nasty waitresses are not tending customers just chilling talking tacos were not even steak but crumble of meat like they sell at any other dollar taco spot. But like said chips are good

My grandparents are regulars at Cocula’s and every time they invite us for breakfast, every waitress comes and greet them/​us and are always very attentive even if we’re not their table. They bring you water and a basket of tortilla chips & side of salsa to start and they come out warm and taste like they are made in house. The breakfast food is just your regular eggs with meat and sides of salad, beans and rice. Nothing too special, but does the trick and are good size portions. The restaurant itself is a good size and the seating/​decorating makes you feel like you’re definitely In a Mexican restaurant. Overall sarisfied

This place feels dingy. The food was ok. But I thought $ 60 for a parrillada with no seafood is expensive. Not the best parrillada I had. Will definitely not come back.

Normally I go to the one on California which is amazing!!! However, I decided to try the Pulaski one and what a disappointment!!! The food is not that good, I ordered a tampiquena which comes with Guac, and legit they gave me a fingernail serving of Guac, I ordered three shots for me n my friends, I was charged the same for all 3, yet the glasses were different in size, I was so bored from our waiters bad and lengthy service so yes I had time to measure my shot glasses. Asked for a water that never came, asked a bus boy for service who alerted a manager that we needed assistance, nothing was done, how conveniently we ask for the check and our crappy server comes right away! Almost feel like she wanted us out since that was just about the only fast thing she did, then she never came back to get my credit card so I walked it up to the register to pay to get the hell out of that place!!! To top it off my bf was harassed by gangbangers in the parking lot!!! Seriously? Not a good crowd, bad service, over-​rated!!! California and cermack location way better!!! This business has bad business ethics, manners, and distasteful patrons such as thugs. Shame can’t even get a good meal in peace!!!

Amazing. I’ve been coming here over 10 yrs. My family lives this place. Their drinks are REAL drinks. And their steak is AUTHENTIC. … we come to the same location every single time… love this place

Been going here since I was a little kid. Now that I’m an adult, I appreciate the good service more. The food is so good, love the spicy sauces, and of course, the tortilla chips! This is my go to place for mexican food and some good margaritas!

I’ve been here twice now, and have mixed feelings. Salsa is good and chips are very fresh. Also margaritas are delicious and a great deal! But, this place is ultra dirty! The bathrooms are grungy and grimey and it has a real «diner» feel to it.
I haven’t eaten here other than chips and salsa so I can’t speak to the food. Stop by for fantastic drinks, though!

Absolutely love the food and the service here. I have been coming here for many years and I am very rarely disappointed with the quality of food and service. The loveliest looking restaurant with its authentic looking façade as well as probably one of the most authentic foods in the neighborhood. You can’t go wrong here in the least. And if you have a big party then by all means bring them in, this place is pretty huge and will accommodate big parties for sure. The array of drinks also does a body good, as they have one of the best margaritas in the south side and the size here will have you saying «size does matter.» I very is my love the people here and most definitely say you will have one of the best experiences and you won’t regret the food at all. If you want a monster size margarita, we’ll just ask for it because they make em’ big! One is all you need as of course you will need to have someone drive you home. Happy eating.

Our first time here, coming back from date night. We really enjoyed it! The food was very good & plentiful… Totally worth the price. Service was great. Ambience was lovely. Just overall good experience. Must check out if you are looking for good mexican food on the sw side! We will be going back.
Side note: they seemed to keep it cold in there so bring a sweater if u chill easily.

Went on a Wednesday and they had their margarita special. So, I was excited. I ordered a mango. WEAK! I didn’t taste any liquor at all!
I ordered the Cocula Plate. I chose al pastor and I just feel their food is too oily and greasy.
My guy got the caldo de res and thought it was okay.
It is big, clean, friendly service and they have a parking lot, but I wouldn’t pick this place since I think there are better places.
