I’m on an El adventure and found Daley’s on Unilocal.Looks like a good stop to take a break and grab brunch. Walk in at noon and it’s the quintessential diner. Love! I beat a group of 30 who walks in after me, woosh. Ordered chicken wings and waffles. Staff is super friendly checking in. Not sure what was happening with the kitchen as it was a wait for my food. Some parties in the large group got their order before me. Bummers. The waitress was super attentive, as king the kitchen what was going on and got the plates to me as soon as they were ready. Wings were awesome and syrup is warm when they give it to you. The wait is the only reason it loses a star.

Place was fantastic. Great family atmosphere and the food was truly delicious. I had the pork chop breakfast and it was seasoned to perfection. This place reminds you grandmas kitchen. The lemonade is homemade and is cool, refreshing, and original.

Food is OKAY, but the service can really be improved. No particular employee around to seat you; just an old, cranky bat behind the front cash register who barks at you, «sit anywhere, seat yourself». I went in today for dinner, sat myself down, and put in my order, which was the salmon croquette dinner. Included was a starter(cream of chicken noodle soup). The soup tasted homemade and seasoned, but wasn’t exactly hot. The croquettes — 2 — were okay… A lil too thick(and mushy in the center) for my liking, but a douse of hot sauce made it more bearable. I ordered greens and mac for my sides and both were good, as were the cornbread muffins. But as for the service, there was more to be desired. I ordered coffee as soon as I sat down and waited damn near 20 minutes for a cup. When my dinner arrived, candied yams arrived in place of the greens I ordered. When I brought it to my waitress’ attention, she TOLD me to just keep the yams and she disappeared to get the greens. When she briefly reappeared, she placed the greens on my table and quickly said, «They want the yams back», snatched up the yams before I could decide that I wanted them and disappeared again. What the hell? Now the restaurant was busy, understandably, but my waitress seemed uninterested and hurried(whenever I could get her attention); BUT it got her attention when I left a tip on the table! Plus, as I paid my bill at the register, the broad at the register took my money without anything as much as a «Thank you» or «Have a good day» or any eye contact. To her, I say, SCREWYOUTOO!

This was a very interesting experience. Once I got in there we were told to just go ahead and choose what ever seat. Finally when we got to order our drinks. I asked for a hot chocolate and the waitress took off right away to go get the hot chocolate with out giving a chance to the other person what they wanted to drink. For some reason our waitress really wanted me to get waffles and cgicken. It was sugested a few times. I did not wanted to have breakfast food for lunch. We end up ordering pork chops with greens, I wanted Yam but end up getting sweet potatoe, chicken wings and corn muffins. I order fries but never got them. Pork chops were amazing 5⁄5 stars. Perfect flavor and right tenderness. Greens 4⁄5 slightly spicy with chunchs of meat. Very enjoyable. Sweet potatoes 3/5, sweet and super soft. Very good. Chicken wings 2/5, I got a wing with a few feathers. Too greasy and it lacked flavor. Corn muffins 4/5, tasted very good and soft. But they were not as good as in the south side of Georgia. Hot chocolate 5/5, very, very good hot chocolate. We got desert on the house to go. Pricing was not bad at all with good quantities of food. There is a green line train on the corner wich makes it very convenient. I do plan to come back and try their waffles.

Nothing to remember. The food was mediocre, décor was«okay», women’s bathroom was dirty. I really wanted to like this place, but I can’t find anything to brag about except that parking was easy.

Oh my god, best soul food chickens I’ve ever had! All the chickens were soft, juicy, and crispy, just like the way I want it. They make yummy gravy too. Honestly, I think they make better chickens than Chicago’s Home of Chicken & Waffles does. This restaurant is a must-try. Will come back soon if I’m ever around in the area again!

Came here for breakfast before checking out U of Chicago campus. Glad I did! Nice to find a classic diner atmosphere in ChiCity when away from NYC. Service was great, got the western omelette and a side of pancakes. Omelet was huge and the pancakes were awesome. Also, can’t lose with free coffee refills.

She had left for the weekend, I decided to live it up, eat brunch not cook it. Riding south on Cottage Grove, the warmish air pregnant with whiffs of churchgoers looking their best. Green Line at 63rd shattered any semblance of solemnity outdoors, inside warm smiles sugared over me. I sidled up to the bar, like I did before I met my wife, before I had someone to look across the table at. What I wanted to eat I had seen on the way in. Wings and waffles, sought after prize of the South Side. Cordial conversations with the adjacent patron enlivened me; I wish I had focused harder, remembered exactly what it was we spoke of. Captivating as it may have been, the food came and I could speak no more. Halfway through, ravaged chicken lay amidst the butter and syrup drowned waffle suddenly my waitress took my plate. I thought it an offense, mid-bite, to snatch a plate from under a chin. But she told me the syrup was inadvertently sugar-free, sorry for the mistake, and that I’d have a new plate shortly. Stunned, I could only go back to talking to that guy next to me. In the end I couldn’t taste the difference. One and a half meals later I waltzed back into the hazy afternoon, drunk on love and aspartame.

My friend and I went this morning for the first time. As we entered, we were greeted, with smiles. You seat yourself, and your server is there immediately, we didn’t have to wait. The waitress that serve us was very polite,(wish I had gotten her name), Our breakfast and coffee were DELICIOUS. We never had to call her for refills, she was there. You can tell it’s a family establishments, the workers knew just about everyone name that enters. Omg, the biscuits, and chicken were off the chain. I will be returning with my mom and dad, maybe even my sisters, they would really love this place. The workers were very pleasant to be around.

Great catfish. Best pecan pie ever — desserts are to die for. Collared greens and salad was mediocre. But hey! It’s a greasy spoon — don’t get the bloody vegetables. Pig out and it’ll be delicious.

Stumbled in here after a college visit to the University of Chicago. This place has been in the neighborhood since 1892 and at this location since 1918. Off the beaten path but great experience of a neighborhood go to place for good home cooked fare. French toast platter tasty and big. Waffle and wings tasty and too big. Strawberry topped waffle almost strawberry pie. Short rib dinner way too big and way too much. German chocolate cake way too big and way too rich and dense. All this for less than $ 50.

If you want cheap, hearty breakfast in Hyde Park/Woodlawn, this is the place to go. Think back to the diner days where unlimited coffee is $ 2 and you can get a giant plate of pancakes, a side of meat, and a drink for $ 10. I personally favor the pancakes, although I’ve never had anything bad. Certainly not fancy, but good food in an old-fashioned setting.

One of those places that I’m embarrassed never to have been, or even to have heard of, despite logging years in Hyde Park. Lots of activity, efficient but friendly service, some surprisingly good fluffy biscuits(not usually my favorite) and the sausage in the breakfast skillet had a nice kick. I don’t know that I need more reliable diners in my life, but if I did, I would think about auditioning Daley’s.

My first experience with Chicken & Waffles was sooooo good. On a wonderful Friday I was training at the U of Chicago and pulled out my trusty Unilocal app to find this lone four star rated restaurant in the area. I took a bunch of my new coworkers here and we all had some great brunch/soul food. Since I have never had chicken and waffles before that day, there was nothing stopping me from getting it. Their wings are very well seasoned, a little overly salty but I had no qualms since it was a perfect complement to the large, warm and fluffy waffle. Those wings come piping hot and crispy, and with every bite I thought to myself how much tastier these wings are than the ones at BWW. My finished plate was a sad sight since all I wanted was to eat more delicious wings. However, I couldn’t get myself to order more since I had ordered an extra side of biscuits which are HUGE and are only like a $ 1.60 for two. If I am ever in the area again, a biscuits and gravy meal is a high priority. My friends were extremely pleased with their meals. One friend(Alvarez I see you) called the mac and cheese«the dankest.» She didn’t share much with the rest of the table. Also the service was awesome and our server introduced us to the owner who thanked us for coming in. I only wish that every dining experience was as satisfying as this one!
