Got the firecracker, one of the best things I’ve ever had. Service was decent, coffee was pretty good. The art made me feel like I was in a 1990s time capsule. Definitely would reccomend at least what I got to someone else.

Tried this spot again and enjoyed my meal a bit more this time around. I ordered oatmeal and the hefty portion left me more than satisfied. Still sticking with the three stars.

I ordered the grilled chicken panini. No chicken on this panini, only greasy bacon fat. The panini seemed soggy as hell and I did not have time to wait for a new one… I unfortunately had to go to subway. Maybe their coffee service is good but I would not come here again for food!

Some of the best coffee and scones in Chicago! When I have time I also enjoy the different breakfast sandwiches and lunch options. Great service, reasonably priced and excellent coffee and food.

Great food for a great price. I had the banana and toasted pecan waffle with strawberries instead of bananas and it was fantastic!

I go to UIC at the moment so this place is not a long walk from the engineering buildings! truly I think its closer and many times more delicious than dunkin donuts! I got a chai latte with a shot of coffee, I used to be a avid drinker of coffee although I no longer am but wow did I enjoy this coffee! It literally lasted me all day and not to mention that it was probably even better cold! I really want to go back any try some of their food. the place is really neat and has a bit of a retro vibe which is always fun — service was quick and painless also!

The food at Demitasse is ok. But, there are better places for breakfast and/or lunch in the area.

I frequent Demitasse to cure those Sunday morning hangovers and when I don’t feel like paying an arm and a leg for breakfast. I love the family-owned, friendly atmosphere and good vibes. Their fresh coffee always energizes me to tackle my Sunday strongly. I usually get the vegetarian breakfast burrito… it fills me up all day. I highly recommend this fine breakfast establishment.

I was here recently and immediately fell in love with the place. The service was fast and friendly. I had the chicken pannini which was a bit dry for my liking. But I had the iced chai latte to beat that. The special of the day, bombay omlette was top notch! and the chicken quesadilla too. I would totally recommend people to this place for a nice sunday brunch!

They took a really long time with my friend and I’s order, and the food was pretty good when it got to us but I ordered an Angus Burger medium well to go for my boyfriend, and it was burnt completely through. It was hard for him to even bite into and felt like a rock. There is really cute artwork hanging around so I like how everything looks, but everything else was just okay.

This sweet little place near the UIC campus is a great place for breakfast. I enjoyed their french toast with bananas and pecans. There was some confusion about my order, but it was quickly remedied and they charged me less for the trouble. So nice.

It’s a solid breakfast/brunch place. It seems like a lot of locals are here. The food was fine, but the menu isn’t huge. We got the bacon frittata and the frittata with chicken. They were both solid and very similar to omelettes. I think the only difference is that frittatas have ingredients scrambled in, and omelettes are just folded in. There’s local art and décor, and it feels very homey. I like a larger variety and more creativity in breakfast goods so I’ll probably try other places before coming back, but if you are looking for simple breakfast food without super long waits, this is the place to go in the area!

Pretty decent egg plates — bacon, cheddar, mushroom frittata was full of all 3 and filling. Tasty taters, too. Good service, funky décor and open when we were hungry for breakfast. And decent coffee. Not a huge place, but enough seating for a quick meal.

This place is great for coffees and drinks during breakfast time or during the evening. Chai Lattes and Cocoa Java are my favorite drinks. Not much of a fan of their food, mainly because of the small selection.

I’ve been going to this place for a very long time. When I first went to this place, it was called Jamoch’s. The owner is the sweetest man in the world. I’ve had mostly everything on the menu. The service is awesome here. Sometimes it’s better than the food :) It’s always what brings me back. This is one of those places that I hope I can pass onto my children or nieces when they go to college. Their chili is so fresh and like home made. The open face tuna sandwich is good. They have great coffee drinks and tea. And they make great Italian sodas. I love this place from the bottom of my heart.

I wanted to love this place, but the service makes that impossible. I came in to pick up a to go order and i was greeted, paid and asked to wait. What was I waiting for? The skinny, very blonde girl with massive hipster glasses to finish her lunch. I flipped through magazines, read an article or two and began thinking how long does it take to latte soup? I decided to put down the magazine and go ask what was the hold up. Upon eye contact the girl put down her fork and went to the window to pick up my soup. WOW. The soup was fine, nothing too special and you can get it as good from a can with more chicken. I hate to interrupt people so i won’t be back.

It’s a cross between coffee café and retro diner. I stopped for breakfast-to-go during the week, it was pretty low key. I ordered an iced chai and an egg white fritatta. The chai was a good bold and spicy brew, just the kind of kick I needed in the morning. The fritatta was a bit of a let down. The cheese was a little on the rubbery side, the eggs and potatoes were pretty flavorless. And nowhere in my to-go bag did I have any salt or pepper. However, I did have enough butter pads to butter an entire loaf of bread. I digged the atmosphere more than the food. Mediocre at best.

The reviewers who complained about the service were spot on. The problem is that the kitchen is small and seems to be staffed by well-intentioned amateurs. We came at noon on a Saturday and found seats immediately.(This is a «seat yourself» establishment.) Unfortunately, our server warned us that we’d be left to our own devices for 15 minutes because the kitchen was backed up. We tried to get things rolling in the right direction by requesting that she take our drink orders right away. She did, sort of, but that didn’t make our food come any faster. We persuaded our server to take our orders fairly soon, but we still had to wait and wait before the kitchen was able to deal with us. I ordered the«special»: two eggs, browned potatoes, bacon, Italian toast. The latter consisted of toasted slices of Italian bread. The bacon was overcooked by my standards. In fact, it was overcooked by all standards: it was so hard that I couldn’t pierce it with the tines of my fork. The eggs were of supermarket-quality(i.e., nothing special). There was nothing egregiously wrong with Demitasse but I’m sure that there are better options up and down the street. Chez Joel looked pretty good to us when we went walking after our lunch.
