Can’t find many of these places anymore, I think it’s only 2 left in Chicago(if that). This 1 is my go to!!! Anytime I’m on the southside I hit them up for their infamous«FishWish» sandwich. I’m embarrassed to say, but Idk what kind of fish it is!!! Ik it’s 2 filet(I think white fish) fish on a wheat hotdog bun. Served with lettuce, tomato, & tarter sauce. I EATMINEPLAIN W/HOTSAUCE!!! I never have a problem here. Service is always on point from the cashiers and my food is always fresh & cooked to order. Weds they have a Fishwish special for like $ 3 and change so the place is PACKED!!! I’ve had the shrimp and wings too, but it wasn’t anything special and never ordered them again. FISHWISHALLDAY!!! Back in the day, Dock’s was king. There were multiple restaurants all featuring fresh fish fried with its own inimitable, consistent, batter. Fast forward to today … One Dock’s, batter has changed and fish not so fresh — just fried. I had a hankering for fried perch a couple of evenings ago. I was in the vicinity of Dock’s and thought they would for sure satisfy my itch. After waiting for nearly 30 minutes, I got my spicy-smelling order of five perch fillets, eager to arrive home. What a disaster. The texture of the fish was nearly pasty with the batter being the only thing holding the fish’s form. In fact, I questioned whether it was even fish. It was sort of grayish in color. After inspecting several fillets, I could not find one flake of fish. It was really disgusting. Because I am so rarely in that part of town, I just chalked it up to an experience I will not repeat again. I guess the long lines are for the legendary Fishwich but no one seemed able to tell me what the«Fish» is. Docks’ primary clientele is not likely to write or read a Unilocal review. However, here’s hoping that some folks will see this and Be Informed.

I really don’t see how this place even exist. It is literally like a hole in the wall people are always standing outside because it is so small. When you walk in the counter person taking the orders cashier they seem to be overworked over stress over the top over and under over and out. I think on Wednesday they have a special and that’s what it’s hell up in Harlem people everywhere mainly standing outside because the place is just too damn small. The food is definitely not all of that I might go on Wednesdays for the special which I think is a chicken sandwich and it’s a very appetizing order once you get it I guess they figured the discounted day good luck. I wonder if the people that run these businesses and/or owners/operators of these businesses read these Unilocal reviews. I think if they did they would step up their game or they just don’t give a you know what and that’s how it seems to be especially in the hood. So if you’re willing to roll the dice and take a chance with just OK mediocre service and product as well you can dock your boat at dock or you can float your boat and take a chance and maybe you’ll have a good experience it. It’s not that I’ve had a bad experience but it’s nothing that whatever while you and make you want to come back it seems like the personnel staff in these places someone doesn’t know about human resources and being selective when you hire people for your business. Because those faces all the image and they paint an image to the customers in a very bad experience will definitely not put you in the limelight but more like in the hot seat so smile cashier urine customer service my god at least fake it to you can take it or faked it so you can take it I know it’s hard dealing with the public and being on 87th street is not the Gold Coast either. People are always high maintenance of course no one’s going to leave you a tip we all know black folks are the worst tippers anyway so with that good luck

I’ve always been a customer of Dock’s for years and I used to walk to the one around the corner from my house, but they’ve since closed and the same for the location on 87th before you get to Stony Island and 95th and Vincennes. I used to get their box of fish with an Omar on the Nile(for those of you who arent south side natives it’s a locally produced juice drink). Their fish is absolutely delicious, but like some posters have stated the attitude of the cashier is sub par. I’ve seen better customer service skills at other places. I am however giving it four stars for the best fish around, but I give no stars for bad customer service. Again I don’t get how African-Americans have such shitty customer service skills they don’t know how to talk to customers without having some kind of nasty attitude. The owners of Docks needs to consider moving into a bigger space because it’s too small when they have a pretty good crowd going on specific days like Friday and Saturday nights when most people are eating out and don’t want to cook. I am going to consider calling my orders in because with the summer being here it can get pretty warm inside when you’re waiting for your order to come up. This is one of two places I love to get fish from because it tastes good and is cooked up fresh and not just sitting under a heating lamp where the best flavor leaves the food. Docks has been a staple in the South Side for more than 40 years and is a local owned franchise.

Went here on our way out of chicago because it had high ratings. We found this place but it was a pretty busy area. People were holding up honk for jesus signs and it was pretty loud and annoying. The restuarant itself was pretty cramped and tiny. It didnt look very clean as well. There were a bunch of people waiting for their food. I would not recommend eating in this restaurant but take your food to some other place. Their fishwich was really good with plenty of fish. Might be better too add some other stuff to your which. I would have given it 4 – 5 stars IF the place was decent enough to eat in.

Stunningly long wait 55minutes for a fish sandwich and order of shrimp!!! customers spilled out the door and onto the sidewalk. After I inquired the extremely rude cashier snapped you can get yo money back! So much for customer service. This place has always been a mess for many years. They wont have to worry about me again. There are many fish options in the vicinity.

You will never find such a great deal on such great food. For years my guy, who is a south side Chicago native, would always say how good the food was here, but for years I would always just never try it for no real reason. I love everything about Dock’s. The price is unbeatable, the amount of food is overwhelming and most of all, it is worth the wait if there is a long line. Our 7 year old loves to get a fishwich now from there and we all go get our sandwiches with a strawberry pop, and that is a perfect day.

Went to Dock’s for the first time, even though I had heard about it while growing up in the Chicagoland area. Ordered the famous Fishwich Wednesday Special for just $ 3.88 plus tax and I must say it was tastefully flavorful! The wheat bun was soft and fresh and the fish was hot and full of crunch! Tomatoes and leafy lettuce with tarter sauce… and I didn’t forget to add the extra tarter sauce and hot sauce to kick it up a notch… Just Perfect! Didn’t take long to receive a freshly cooked Fishwich and service was good too! Also, I had order a captain’s platter. It was described as being a pan full of food but the picture on the wall didn’t make it look like a pan… especially since it was for only $ 8.89. But to my GREAT surprise it was REALLY a PAN of FOOD(Wings, Shrimps, and Ton of Catfish Nuggets with a pile of Fries)…ALL hot and crispy! So much food, I was forced to share with a co-worker and still had leftovers to take home… WoW! I advise you to try and get their before the lunch rush starts at 11:15am or you will be in a pretty long line in a pretty small waiting area.

This Dock’s location is literally the last of a dying breed. I believe it’s the last location standing. The Fishwich is a classic, as are the Dock-berry shakes. One of the few places that has a Nehi fountain machine. I’m only vouching for the fish & shakes. The wings, shrimp & fries are sub par.

This place is in the same strip mall that has the best Harold’s chicken in Chicago. It is anchored by the Food 4 Less grocery store. I have heard that it is the last Docks on the south side. Pros: The food is really, really good. Fresh enough, well seasoned, well prepared. I love that the dinners come with a dinner roll instead of just a piece of white Wonder bread. The perch is my favorite. Cons: Extremely slow service. Be prepared to wait. You will wait at least 30 minutes to an hour and 30 minutes, depending on the day you go. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights are the worse for waiting, of course. Tips: Do not bother to call ahead, they will not drop your food until you get there. Cash is king, but they do accept credit/debit. The place is very small, and usually very crowed. Be prepared to stand. Be prepared to wait out side of the establishment, or standing in it’s doorway. If you want a great friend fish meal, this is where you go. It will be worth your wait.

The only Dock’s left in Chicago; the last of a mighty empire. Dock’s was to fish what Harrold’s was to chicken back in the ‘90s. Due to changes in ownership, the franchise has been reduced to this final location. Its still good and the Famous Fishwich is still a treat. If you want an authentic taste of the South Side of Chicago, you can still get it at Dock’s. The place looks rough, but I ate there today and my meal was hot, fresh, and tasty.

If you’re ever on the south side and craving a fish sandwich this is where you go. Period! Now don’t go unless you have like 30 minutes to an hour to kill. Also don’t go if you don’t have patience for terrible staff with awful manners. You gotta have a thick skin, but the benefits are well worth it. Deep fried white fish on soft bread, tomato, lettuce, and light mayo… mmmmmmmmmmm…
