Wonderful tour of an amazing Frank Lloyd Wright house. Bruce(tour guide) was very knowledgable and friendly. This was the best stop of my Chicago visit. Just call ahead and schedule an appointment.

This was the highlight of my visit to Chicago. I want to mention this first because it blew our minds. You can rent the Bach House for private functions and for overnight stays, YES I“M SERIOUS!!! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I called prior to my visit and was informed that the Bach House would be closed for a private function on Saturday. No problem, Wade stated that if we arrived prior to 12pm, we would be given a tour. It turned out that we had a private tour by Bruce. How often can you go to a Museum, Landmark, etc. and have a private tour??? The home is about 20 mins North of downtown(Michigan/River Area). This was our favorite Frank Lloyd Wright home that we visited on our trip. Definitely a don’t miss!!! Thank you Wade and Bruce.

Thanks to Open House Chicago( ), I was able to experience the Emil Bach House last weekend. It was a once in a lifetime experience in which they opened up this house for the first time in a long while. The pair that now owns this property will be opening it up for rentals and I imagine it will be a great wedding venue once renovations are complete. Growing up, my Mom dragged me to just about every Frank Lloyd Wright house & building east of the Mississippi. At the time, I moaned and groaned however in reflection I’m very thankful as it gave me a great appreciation for the man and architecture in general. His meshing of buildings and nature is just stunning in his work, he was a true artist building furniture pieces right into home and even designing stained glass for the homes in many cases. The Emil Bach House is the smallest of the Frank Lloyd Wright homes that I’ve ever been through. Not to say it isn’t decently sized though as I think it is with two bedrooms and a study upstairs. As soon as you see the house built in 1915, it’s easily identifiable as one of his works as it’s in his Prairie Style with the long overlaying roof — it just screams FLW! Now when I went, there was a long line and we ended up waiting about an hour and 45 minutes to get inside for the 8 minute tour of the house. However, it was completely worth it to me. Our tour guides were very well informed and although the tour was short, I learned a great deal about the home and got some great photos. If you ever get a chance to check out the Emil Bach House, definitely jump on it!
