I love this store so much! Produce is way better than Jewel and appreciate the gluten free and ethnic sections

Prices were great. Only bad thing was my fault but also the stores fault. The milk i purchased on December 26th expired on December 24th. This should be something the store should be checking. I obviously take part of the blame but im use to going into a grocery store and grabbing milk that doesnt expire for another week or 2.

I’ve been going here for a few months now and really like the way they have remodeled their store. They now have lots of good organic and gluten-free items. The store also has lots of fruits and vegetables and bulk nuts. They also have items from around the world: even cheese from Denmark! Their prices are excellent. The only complaint I would have is that sometimes some of the produce is a bit wilted and should probably be removed sooner.

Ermagawd the Italian beef!!! Go to the deli section, ask for Italian beef and don’t forget to ask for the gravy along with it. It’s so unbelievably gooooddddddd! Throw it in a crockpot and you’ll have yourself the most impressive Italian beef ever prepared in your kitchen. Grab a fresh baguette to accompany it and you won’t regret it!

Rosa J. may not be an excellent cook, but she enjoys grocery-shopping. Family Fruit Market is located on the northeast side of Portage Park, part of the Six Corner shopping center. Parking is more then plenty; excess spots can be found across Cicero. It’s much smaller than I expected to see. Fresh produce was merchandised with a visually-pleasant organization. Many organic veggies were on sale, so Mama J. and I picked out a few. I would skip the meat department next time. If you need a place to shop for USDA poultry, meat, or processed meat, my recommendation will be A&G Market near Belmont and Central. Otherwise, Joseph’s Finest Meats on Addison in Dunning have an extensive selection of top-notch, premium USDA Prime products. Family Fruit Market has a little bit of everything, like Mexican, Polish, and Eastern European items. However, Montrose Deli on Montrose or Irving Park is literally an one-stop store for anything Polish, while other neighborhood grocery stores will be sufficient enough for fresh produce. Unless you live very close to FFM or are running errands nearby, no travel is necessary. I rendered 3.5 stars for FFM, based on their venue size, uniqueness and prices of their products, and freshness of their agricultural produce.

I’m a bit of a produce market snob, and this one is just ok. I do think the actual produce was fresh and well priced(case in point, some spinach lasted well over 10 days), so no complaints there but… There is a distinctly lacking selection of good breads(ethnic markets are usually good for these, but this was primarily pre packaged preserved products and a few local but not great rye selections. I think I do remember decent tortillas?) The dry goods are also lacking and high in price. You’ll find the staples, but even then selection is limited and no better than Jewel(again, something I usually love about small markets) There IS a decent organic selection of dry goods, but again for the price, I don’t see the point. I’d stop in for produce needs, and it’s still probably better than frequenting the Jewel, community wise, but it’s not among the best.

Their quality has gone down since their«remodel». It’s not the first time I’ve gone in to see old produce and food in the fridge or on the shelf. The assortment is limited as well. Sad, I hope they bounce back.

Family Fruit Market has a great selection of fresh and diverse produce, as well as specialty foods that you can’t find at many places nearby. It’s worth a special stop here and the prices are great, too. So happy they’ve committed to the new, organic and local sections.

Our family LOVES Family Fruit Market. There were rumors that it was leaving, but they were not true — they did some reorganizing and brought in more organic produce and other organic and gluten free products, including a huge selection of Bob’s Red Mill and Wild Harvest items. We try to buy as much organic produce as possible on our limited budget, and we consistently bought our greens and tomatoes here as they almost always have a lower or equal price point on those items than other stores we have shopped at(Jewel, Mariano’s, Costco, Aldi). We also always loved their non-organic citrus fruits, avocados, and bananas. Now that they have widened their organic selection(and their prices have stayed low!) we do basically all of our produce shopping here, as well as a few specialty items since they are no more expensive than you would find them anywhere else. We spent about $ 50 here two weeks ago and bought a ton of stuff that has lasted us until this week. Between here and Aldi/Costco, we can average about $ 100/week on groceries for a family of 3, which is pretty good considering we do as much organic as possible! In addition, the store is always clean, and have always had pleasant interactions with the staff. Love this place!

Deli is good and has specials. Workers are cooperative. They are very pricey on everything else though. Only go there once in awhile. Not surprised to hear they may close.

My husband and I have had what seems to be only bad experiences with FFM. We live very close and were excited to have a fruit market that is walking distance from our home. 1. In the European Specialty aisle-my husband purchased a jar of an ethnic food that we were happy to see. When he opened it, it was rotten and obviously old. 2. The self service roll area is disgusting. I have seen, and had to ask for a customer(as I am a customer myself) to not do this. A man took rolls out with his bare hands and his nails were obviously unkempt. He would take one out and examine it, and put it back and so forth. It was disturbing to see as before this incident I actually liked getting the rolls because they seemed fresh. I have not gone back since this incident. I want to know where the actual staff of the store was, since this is probably not the first time something like this has occurred. At LEAST put a sign up. 3. Some of the cashiers are rude. 4. They sell expired candy after the holidays. A lot of people are sad to see this place go but we wont miss it. Great potential, but they need to re evaluate some basic standards of running a grocery store.

This is an update… I have to change my review of this place. It goes from 5 stars down to 2 stars. It used to be so much better. But, when the old owners sold it the store changed what is carried. Now it is just some huge bins of fruits and vegetables that take up most of the store. And a lot of unused space. There are just a couple of small rows of non-produce items I used to be able to do all my shopping there. Now I can’t. I’m not going to bother making two trips, one to this produce store and another trip to get everything else(good bread, condiments, salad dressings, boxed foods, canned goods, snack foods, etc.) They used to have a great selection of all the other things plus very good produce. Not anymore.

FRESHFRUITYORVEGGIEME I can not believe I’ve never written a review for this place. I grew up in Portage Park and even owned a house in the area. This was my go to place for most of my shopping. Yeah there’s a Jewel across the street but their produce prices will literally cost you an arm & a leg. I never understood why people constantly shop there paying those high produce prices. I walked in here recently and walked out with 6 heavy bags of fresh food for only $ 20. I was most impressed with the giant bunch of fresh parsley I picked up. It is the freshest parsley I’ve had since growing my own garden this past summer. But my love didn’t stop there as I loaded up on even more veggies. With prices this low it makes it hard to not buy the entire store. The store also has many essentials, so you could get away with all of your shopping here. The two basic ethnicities that are covered here include Mexican and Italian. Everything you need to whip up tacos is at your finger tips. And if your feeling saucy then why not make a giant pot of Sunday Gravy. They even have dried pasta if you like cooking out of a bag. What really impresses me is the great prices on lunch meats and cheeses for the last 20 years. It is almost worth the drive from downtown to stock up. We picked up a giant container of shaved Parmesan for only $ 3. At a big grocery store this would cost over $ 5. I must admit that this cheese I bought literally melts in your mouth. I should have bought two containers. If you’re looking for deli meats then this is the place because the prices are fantastic. Again the larger grocery stores mark up their lunch meats so high. The deli counter also has pre made items. So if you’re looking to take out the part of assembling your food, then you can just take & bake them at home. The staff behind the meat counters are really good and fast at completing your orders. They even have a small butcher here who can cut your meat or grind up anything you want. There are some pre marinated meats and again you just need to take them home to cook them up. I really miss this place and I wish I still lived closer. I am going to make more attempts to shop here when I am driving through my old neighborhood. If you find yourself in the 6 corners area, then by pass the big Jewel and visit this smaller store that will treat you right. They even have a small organic section that has great prices. And don’t worry they have two parking lots. One next to the store and the other is across the street. So what are you waiting for because it’s time to get healthy and cook up some fresh food.

We used to live in Rodgers Park and loved the Morse Market and have been trying to find a replacement for that since moving to Portage Park. Family Fruit Market is great! I have only been twice to get produce. Much better than what jewel offers because Jewel never seems to keep ripe fruits which is what you need for things like mango and plantain and I want to eat it today, not a week from now! I bought all the ingredients for a Beef Stew there(not including the meat bc I already had it) for $ 9 so the prices are pretty sweet. Like any market, if you are looking for a specific brand they may not have it in stock but they always have the basics. Lots of ethnic food, which is good for us since we mostly cook Dominican dishes.

Good produce selection(obviously) Cheaper than jewel(what isnt?) Parking is rather annoying unless you live close enough to not have to drive. They do have that second lot but then you have to cross busy as hell cicero pushing a shopping cart like a homeless person.

This is a great little grocery store. They have a great produce section and it is never crowded. I used to go here a lot more often and then I stopped. I have no idea why. Every time I go, I think, «This place is so great, I should come more often.» So, that is my plan. I need to eat more fresh fruits and veggies and will make it a mission to stop by here more often after work!

What a find! I love that I have a huge fruit market in walking distance from my place. But if I have to drive, they do have a parking lot adjacent to the shop as well as across the street. I mainly shop here for the fruits and veggies. The prices are reasonable and the quality is good. Sometimes the produce is super fresh, meaning you have to use it soon or else it will go bad. But most of the time, the freshness is reasonable so you don’t have to do a complete clean out/use up of the fridge contents. There is a good selection of dry goods – but some are pretty over-priced(cereal!). But if you catch a sale then you’ve got yourself some great deals. The deli looks promising but I have yet to get any of their fresh meats. It’s an older store so not so sleek and shiny. The service is OK. I love the pop music they play overhead – makes shopping fun. My best find so far… tons of fresh pickle cucumbers that were used to make pickles.

Family Fruit Market is a simple little grocery with friendly family service. When you come here you can expect lower prices than your neighborhood chain grocery store. The produce section is where you will witness this the most. They have a wide selection of fresh fruits and vegetables. This store also has enough of the other essentials to fulfill your weekly grocery shopping needs. They have a deli and a butcher but I didn’t notice many fresh fish options. They have all of the regular branded middle aisles items as well as other culturally friendly branded products. Family Fruit Market is a good representation of what is so good about a local family owned grocery. You won’t be pushed around by rude shoppers and the service is always with a smile.
