Father & Son Barber Shop

I’ve been going to Father & Son Barber Shop in the Edgewater neighborhood for well over a year now, and I love the job that Pete (one of the owners) does so much that I literally go every single week for a clean up! EVERYONE in this barber shop is welcoming, masters at their craft, and all provide excellent service. This is one of the most successful (and busiest!) shops on the entire far north side of Chicago, but it’s always worth the wait. Although I am loyal to Pete (he’s become like family to me and I genuinely enjoy seeing him every week), I would suggest his brother Anthony, Mitch, Artur, and RJ as recommended barbers. Pete truly takes his time with me (I’m never rushed, which is always a great feeling), is a complete perfectionist, and he always trims my hair and beard with a smile. Even better, it’s incredibly affordable (cash only). I cannot recommend this shop enough!

I was referred here by a friend and have been pleased with the way Martin has cut my hair each time. I will usually go to any barber shop to get a haircut, but since coming here, I have not gone anywhere else.

I’ve been getting my haircut here regularly for just over a year. I’ve been to other «barbershops,» but this one is legit and by far my favorite. Everyone is friendly, skilled, and efficient! Artur does an amazing job and always pays very close attention when blending my skin fade to my longer hair on top. He also does a great job with my beard!

Martin didn’t cut my hair the way I asked him to. It’s not a bad haircut but I’m still dissapointed because that’s not what I’m paying $ 20 for. If I do come back, it will be to a different barber.

My son just relcated to Chicago to attend grad school at Loyola. He was kind of bummed out that he would have to get a new barber, and he initally said he would wait for haircuts for when he comes home to Boston. That idea didn’t work all that well, so some of the guys at Loyola told him to give this shop a shot. He said this situation works out well for him. The shop is easily accessible for him from the Loyola University Lakeshore campus — just 2 train stops away on the red line. The shop is organized and has a white board system where you write your name upon check-​in. If you want to see somebody specific, then you can indicate that with an asterik. It was a comfortable wait, prices were reasonable, and he said his haircut come out fine. He said he would definitely go back.

Wanted to give this place a shot… I hate when barbers Chit Chat when cutting your hair… Shut your mouth and focus on your customers haircut! I simply told the guy MARTIN to just a simple clean up… He gave me a crew cut and it was uneven in every way! He used a razor and shaved the corners by my temple’s like I was some kind of New Yorker thug… Literally one of the worst haircuts I have ever had ! I had to go to another barber to even it all out ! … Will NEVER return to give them another chance !! Overpriced! I would probably trust a crack head down the block cutting my hair then ever thinking of coming back here !!! BEWARE! STAY AWAY!

Beat haircut ever. Tony or anthony not sure what his name is but this kid is amazing. They just earned a customer for life in me. Everything about this barbershop reminds me of the old days, just bunch of good people working together. I will go out of my way to come here and get my haircut from now on

These guys do a great job cutting hair, especially Pete. You can end up waiting a little while to get in… so be patient and read the magazines, chat up the guys, etc… (O: It is a little tough to get parking. Your best bet is to go on a week day during the day.

Just had my first haircut at this place as I’ve recently moved into Rogers Park, but am also near Edgewater. I had my eye on this place because of the great Unilocal reviews and then my downstairs neighbor told me he’s been getting his hair cut here for 20 years! Great experience and great hair cut. This will be my new regular spot.

The dude butchered my hair. I almost walked out before he was done. Cut sides way shorter than I asked and rest looks like he used a weed whacked.

Joe’s my go to barber. I always get a constant haircut. Saturday is super busy, so get there early.

As good as it gets! Barbers are all friendly, price is perfect .You feel like they’re your friends upon first visit.

The best! Comfortable atmosphere, there was quite a line but worth the wait. These guys are great! No cutting corners here, they’re the real deal.

I needed to find a new barbershop a few weeks ago and I’m so glad that I found this one! They were so good that I went back today with my 19 month old son who does not like haircuts one bit. He cried (loudly) the entire time, but all of the barbers were taking turns talking to him and trying to cheer him up. It was adorable. Even though my son fought it the entire time, he still came out with an amazing haircut! Our barber mentioned that this was his 5^th little one in a row and yet he still had the patience of a saint.
Great atmosphere. Great price (cash only). Great barbers! Every single one of them. I highly recommend this spot.

Still gotta give them the max amount of Stars. Just an update on my initial review about 4 years ago.
Nino and Mike are gone, RJ & Artur are the new kids on the block and fit right in, great banter and they like their jobs.
Joe is only there on Saturday’s unless he has a project to do in the shop.
Best place on the North Side to get a haircut, these guys make you want to come back!

My BF has been going to Father & Son for many, many haircuts and comes home looking sharp every time. For this alone I am thankful. He’s told me many times about the great atmosphere and banter between the brothers and the customers. He told me it’s clean, and the appointments run smoothly.
However, I’m not my BF’s blogger so he can write his own damn reviews. I’m writing because today I got to see all of this for myself when we brought our son in for his first haircut on his first birthday.
We called ahead to make sure they cut kids’ hair, specifically the little guys. Yep! When we got there, what looked like a 3 year old was having his hair cut and was having a great time of it. We waited maybe 10 minutes for our son’s turn with no appointment.
The place is very clean, there are TV’s to watch (mostly sports), and plenty of magazines that are in good condition. The stuffed raccoon on top of the soda machine did give me a bit of the heebie jeebies. For what it’s worth, it’s a pretty damn good taxidermy job, so maybe ask where they got theirs done, if you’re into that sort of thing.
Pete normally cuts my BF’s hair, so he took care of our son. He was OK with me snapping photos (I’ll upload one here) while he worked. He was fast, funny, and our son’s hair looks great! Pete asked us if we had any preferences for the haircut. We told him to make it look good, and that’s it. Two new parents, one wielding a camera, and no guidance. No problem! Pete made us laugh, made my son smile, and managed to give my squirmy kid a great haircut in maybe about 10 minutes.
My kid always looked like he was sporting a combover like Sol Goodman. It turns out when he has a good haircut, it doesn’t look like that anymore! I’m glad we trusted Pete and didn’t try to micromanage. Let the guy do his job, yeah?
