Nostalgia can be dangerous. Food from home, the food we grew up with delights us in cosmic ways. I have only found this feeling a handful of times, this was one of them. The bread was something of a New York water miracle, warm with basil infused oil. I have this pipe dream of starting an Arancini truck called Rollin’ Risotto. If I could ever realize that dream, these would be the rice balls I sold. Closing my eyes and savoring the marinara so splendid, this feeling so rare, I was having flashbacks of Sunday dinners at Nonna’s, grateful for the authentic smile it all brought to my face.

Visited after the autoshow with my girlfriend. Service is great and was getting busier the longer we stayed. Started off with the fried calamari, was very good. I ordered capellini alle scoglie and my gf ordered clams over linguini. Both were good but noodles were a touch over cooked. Didn’t have dessert this time but there will be a next.

This place is a perfect example that you can’t judge a book by its cover!!! I was recommended Gio’s by a friend, so glad I tried it. I’ve tried several dishes here and honestly can’t pinpoint a favorite… All fresh and delicious. Don’t let the lack of ambience deter you from coming here! Not only can you eat here, but you can pick up a few Italian kitchen staples too! BTW… BYOB ***** Only beer and wine, no hard liquor***

Gio’s is a great semi hidden Italian restaurant in Bridgeport, all of the locals know about it. I’ve been coming here for years and have never had a bad meal. It’s a smaller place, probably seats 50, that can get loud depending who is there. They have great pasta and sauces(gravy, im not here to debate this), im not a big fan of gnocchi, but there is one of the few places I will eat it. The vodka sauce is amazing as well. They usually have fish specials, I’ve had some very good fishes dishes here, look out for the specials! It used to be BYOB im not sure, I haven’t brought any the last two times I have eaten here. The owner is always around he is very friendly. The staff is great about explaining dishes and giving recommendations. The baked clams are amazing, a little smaller but well worth it. Definitely try the soup and a side of the sausage. It’s also a deli with shelves around the walls where you can buy pasta, cheeses, sausage and your other needs.

Nice staff and decent menu. I love the comfortable feel this place has to offer, but I unfortunately have to deduct two stars. The food is too salty. It’s to salty that It gives you that super salty after taste an hour later. Maybe I came on a bad night. They WERE about to close. Maybe next time it will be better.

It might look like a plain Italian grocery from the outside, but once you go in and try their food you’ll be surprised. Well, I was. The portions are pretty big so i recommend sharing with your friends/family. Will come back for sure. I get some pasta cravings.

Came in on Christmas Eve for dinner and it got pretty busy. Never even knew this existed till we came in with a couple of friends. It’s a grocery store but it is also a restaurant. It has a family feel to it and everything we ordered came in huge portions and I recommend people splitting two to a plate. Everything seems it’s good for family style. We all had 4 different types of pasta and they all had their own unique taste. The waitress kindly gave us plates so we can try one another’s dishes. I like mine the most(pictured). We also had some appetizer: calamari & mozzarella. Both were pretty great but very oily due to it being deep fried. It’s also BYOB too! Family friendly and more family style.

Was a huge fan of their fried calamari and spaghetti. Hubby was not too impressed, but I would love to go back.

Loved the food and the friendly locals who dined here. We had the stuffed artichoke and two dinners off the specials menu and enjoyed it all. Save room for dessert though because the tiramisu and the cannoli were well worth it.

We were there again last night. It never fails. The food is delicious, served hot and with no pretense of being anything other than what it is, a great neighborhood restaurant with simply prepared wonderful food.

We read the reviews and were very excited about trying. The waitstaff was pleasant and talkative. The place looked like what it is — a deli. Unfortunately, the food was okay. Not bad, but not terribly flavorful. It was just not really worth the prices paid.

Had the pleasure of dining at Gio’s tonight. Its one of those«hidden» neighborhood places that most people never get to see. Its on a side street and if it wasnt of my trusty Unilocal app I wouldnt of been lucky enough to find it. Its a charming little spot. It also has the added bonus of being BYOB. I really enjoyed my experience there. One of my favorite Italian dishes is Zuppa di Pesce. Theirs was really good. I wasnt disappointed with my meal not one bit. Really savored their Tiramisu!!! It was a nice big juicy slice that I didnt even think I would finish by just looking at it. But OMG!!! I SUREASHELLDID!!! THUMBSUP!!! I look forward to dining in more often since I had such a good experience there with my meal and service. Has like a homey feel to it if you end up going downstairs. Not a bad thing. I kinda liked it!!!

It always seems crowded when I go! I have tried various pastas and loved everything. Look for the specials on the board above the kitchen. I also like that it is a store too so you can buy some Italian goodies to go.

I didn’t even want to give this place one star can you put no stars. I would give it stardust if measurement more precise. For starters the bruchetta was soggy as a mop that sucked sponge dried the sewers of chicago. The acidic tomatoes burned the whoooole way down… and out. I ordered rigatoni vodka, and was surprised to find brown cream sauce, dry noodle totally overcooked. It was a smugglers sauce that lacked richness, frugle with cheese. I could hardly tolerate the taste and never finished. $ 40.00 us Thos is a definite pass. Onle Positive: impromptu dog treat

I heard some good things from people that live in the area, its byob which is cool, the dining area is kind of small, there isn’t a whole lot of space, plus it’s also like a grocery store. We got the bruschetta app, and then i got the special of rigatoni and sausage, both were really good, as was the bread n butter even lol maybe a little pricier than i was expecting, but i still liked everything i had and wouldnt mind going back

Great little Italian restaurant tucked into a small corner in Chicago. Staff is very friendly and accommodating to customizations of their menu. I was here for lunch, I think its more suited for dinner. BYOB is very interesting as well. We had a party of 7 and they were able to serve us all quickly and easily.

This was a great place! Some of the absolute best Italian food I’ve ever eaten! Really great atmosphere and the waitress was super helpful. Be prepared to be there for a while. One waitress, few tables, and lots of people wanting to eat there! I will definitely go again and would highly recommend this place!

Gio’s is and will always be my number one favorite restaurant around. It has an adorable atmosphere and the food is amazing. I am half Italian and am used to homemade Italian food. Gio’s cooking is the closest I’ve ever had to homemade! The owner Nacio is so wonderful. He is always friendly and accommodating to his customers. I love Gio’s and would definitely recommend it to anyone!

A perfect place for my 100th review! Gio’s is a magical hidden gem in Bridgeport, totally authentic Italian in a quaint little space. That being said, the dining area is quite small and you may need a reservation on a Friday or Saturday evening. The wait staff is very friendly and helpful. A huge plus for people driving in, free neighborhood parking! Try anything, try everything you won’t be disappointed.

From the outside, Gio’s looks like a corner store. Inside its a little bit different. Came in on a Wednesday night and was lucky to find a table. The place has about 8 – 10 tables so its easy to see why it can get packed. Walk in, seat yourself and immediately someone comes out to serve you bread to start your order. Our waiter was very helpful. Told us everything that was on the menu and they also have about 8 other specials on the chalk board as well. Now to the food. I order the Chicken Parmesan, which was delicious. Chicken was breaded perfectly and cooked perfectly. And the portion size is huge. 2nd plate ordered was the Fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp. Pros — Shrimp was great and so was the pasta sauce. Cons — It needed more shrimp. It was basically a plate of Fettuccine and 4 shrimps. Funny part about our visit is we saw the couple next to us order the calamari and it looked delicious. So our waiter decided to give us a small order of it(their order was huge) and its definitely one of their specialty plates. You can almost order that and 1 dish and be satisfied for 2 people. Don’t forget its… BYOB BYOB BYOB Bottle of wine or some beers if you are there for lunch, you’re good to go! Also check Groupon for a deal as well.
