Haven’t been here since I moved from South Chicago in 2011 but the food here was seriously good! Yeah, the place is a little«hole in the wall» but that’s where you get the best food! It’s small and there aren’t any places to sit down but don’t let that stop you from going. Get your food, get out and enjoy!

It’s been a while since I’ve visited Hoe Toy, but the food was good. This time I stopped and picked up duck with noodle, shrimp fried rice, and shrimp chop suey. I’m still looking for the shrimp that was supposed to be in the fried rice and chop suey. I think if you list shrimp as an ingredient there should be at least a hint or flavor of shrimp. But there was NONE! it’s safe to say I will not try this restaurant again! I’m giving this one star because there’s no option for zero stars.

I love Hoe Toy. Been coming here ever since I was a kid. Love the food. The best chicken wings and egg rolls.

For neighborhood Chinese food, this isnt bad at all. The prices are affordable and they give you a lot of food. I have no idea why they charge you for extra sauce packets, but whatever… everyone’s gotta make a buck, I guess :) its best to call ahead as they take some time to get your order together. But i like having my food made to order as opposed to sitting on some heat lamp all day.

I thought this place had good chinese food. I had order from here several times in the last couple of months until one day when i ordered a large shrimp egg foo young my food was not all the way cooked through. The egg was running in the inside of the patty. I returned it back to the restaurant and there was someone else was there with the same problem demanding their money back as well. No more eating there for me.

Hoe Toy is a good Chinese food place to have around the corner. The prices make sense, and my favorite dishes are the Mongolian beef and shrimp and broccoli. The people that work there are friendly, and the food doesn’t take too long. Downer cash only lol. Otherwise, if you’re in the area get some Hoe Toy

How I use to love this place until I had to file a missing report on my shrimps in my fried rice. Being that finding a good Chinese Restaurant on the southside of Chicago is like finding a needle in a haystack, I have always opted for Hoe Toy… until they toyed with my food! I don’t expect to find a shrimp fest in my fried rice, but I do expect«some» — more than 5 shrimps to reside in Fried Rice Town!!! However, the staff is always friendly — but I want my fried rice to be shrimp-friendly as well!(Can you tell I feel some type of way about the disappearing shrimp? — lol)

Some of the best Chinese food in Chi-Town. Shrimp fried rice and Mongolian Chicken are my favorite!

Someone said to order from here and when I went to go pick up the food, I was absolutely disgusted by how dirty the entry door was and the inside was no better. Filthy! Not sure how anyone would feel comfortable eating from an establishment that has no signs of cleanliness — I certainly cannot. Try Kams on 83rd/Dan Ryan. Clean establishment, good food(and tons of it) and friendly people.

Good food and prices are average. Only thing I don’t like from them is the crab ragoon(fishy taste) but other than that, it’s all to the good!

I was in the neighborhood today and stopped in an old fav Hoe Toy. I ordered the Shrimp/Lobster Sause anad to my suprise, I received shrimp/a small amt of lobster doppings in thick brown gravy. I guess that they figured that the AA community would not know better! Shame on them, I am returning to Chinatown.

Its my favorite neighborhood chinese spot. They just don’t take credit or debit. These folks are all about cash and don’t have an ATM inside either. Come prepared if you want good food cause you have to resort back to paper money.

It was just ok! Gwon Lee is better and it’s just down the street on 87th. It’s across from Walgreens and next to the black owned health food store!

This is great Chinese food better than most. No tables because it is «take out» Which is cool because it’s good and they give you so much of whatever rice you buy they have to force the top closed. The egg rolls are fat with plenty of pork, beef, shrimp, chicken, etc. Everything I’ve had has been great. I’ve been going there for 30 years and it is still the best!

This is not the place it used to be in the 90’s and early 2000’s. The flavor of this food has gone completely down the drain. The shrimp fried rice used to be so flavorful with just enough oil. Now it’s dry and flavorless. The orange chicken… ewe! It had too much of a tangy after taste and the pineapples do not mix well in the dish. The crab Rangoon was also disgusting. It was too chewy and it had a weird old fish taste in it. I miss the days when Hoe Toy trumped over all the Chinese restaurants on the south side. Those days are clearly over.

This is best Chinese food spot on the southeast side of Chicago. They have the best shrimp fried rice. They give you nice sized shrimp and the food is seasoned just right. They only except cash that the only minus they have. Its best to call in your order to avoid a wait on the weekend. There is plenty of street parking on Stony Island. Everytime I go there the food has been consistent.

No one has done a review for Hoe Toy!!! Well, I’ll be the first then. If you can overlook the fact that you have to order your food through a bulletproof window and that they only take cash, you’re in for a real treat. The food here is REALLY good. Seriously some of the best Chinese food in the city. It’s a hidden gem because it’s not in yuppieville. They’re open pretty late and it’s carryout only. Being that they have bulletproof glass, I’m guessing they don’t want people sitting in there so there’s no tables. They give you a crapload of fortune cookies too. That’s gotta count for something. And c’mon, everyone wants to say they’ve eaten at a restuarant with the word Ho in the title.
