Came here for brunch on a Saturday with a friend and I must say it lived up to the hype! I started off with a cocktail at the bar, since there are no reservations and it was about an hour wait on a busy Saturday morning. The Other Gold tasted like liquid springtime. The flavors were dancing in my mouth guys… I’m not joking. I ended up getting two of these during my meal. Longman & Eagle offers a solid brunch(I went with the chicken and waffles) and the fried chicken was superb. The batter was crunchy and light; it wasn’t greasy at all. I loved the sweet potato and pork belly hash that the chicken and waffles were sitting next to(I feel that the hash could be a standalone brunch offering, since it was that good). Go to Longman & Eagle for the following reasons: 1. Delicious Meal 2. Outstanding Cocktails 3. Decent Prices 4. Ambiance 5. Good Service

My husband and I came for the chicken and waffles. The chicken(all dark meat-yes!) was perfectly fried and delicious. The dish was accompanied by a has of some sort but who cares when you have fried goodness. I’m used to roscoes chicken and waffles in LA but the chicken and waffles here met my needs. Since we are from Texas it was nice seeing hipsters in their natural habitat. I also ordered a blood Mary which was okay– it was less thick and needed a lot of hot sauce. The extra shot of beer that came with it was nice though

Came here for brunch, and was satisfied! Had a good french toast, and surprisingly delicious and hearty salad. I would go with their suggestion for the more hearty brunch plates, like the fried chicken which looked & smelled phenomenal. Wasn’t blown away by either of our brunch plates, though they were definitely tasty. The non-food, non-alcohol amenities are not fantastic. Orange juice came out of a bottle, they had no cold brew, and the hot coffee was just alright. If you’re looking for a good food x coffee combo, grab a drink from Bowtruss on the way there and suffer through the side-eye you may or may not get.

Nice casual place for drinks and meal. Overall I would recommend to anyone who is in the area. Drinks are interesting but not amazing. Staff is friendly but not overly polite and/or welcoming. Food is following the quasi hipster trend — traditionally exotic meats(boar, rabbit, etc), shrimp & grits(everyone is doing this), etc. This menu reminded me of Breslin at ACE. Patrons are a mix of locals, want-to-be hipsters, douche bros, and tourists. Depending on day and time each category of patrons will ebb and flow.

Great service, great food, great bar! I have been here multiple times and I have yet to have a bad experience(tfu tfu tfu). I came in last night and was very shocked I did not have to wait to be seated. My friend and I ordered whisky sours(I only drink whisky at Longman). Seriously the best. I would be more than happy to consume all of my liquid calories at Longman. After we sat down the waitress gave her little shpiel and let us know it would be best if we order 3 – 4 dishes for the two of us. I have not been to Longman in a while and the menu hadchanged(love that it changes seasonally, leaving a few key menu items such as the burger and sloppy joe both amazing). We were slightly indecisive but came up with items that looked appealing and we were putting it in the hands of our waitress to narrow it down. Food: Beef Tartare– Really good! I don’t like beef tartare because the thought of raw meat typically grosses me out, but the lighting was so dim I decided to man up and not psych myself out. AMAZING! I would order it again Fried Chicken Roulade– I really enjoyed this but I dont’ think I would order it again. the duck fat biscuits that came along with it were amazing and they should definitely put it as a bar snack option. Seared Strip Steak– SOGOOD! The strip steak was actually very light, refreshing and perfect for summer. The steak was paired with peas(which I typically don’t eat and move to the other side of my plate like a 5 year old, but they were amazing I may have literally ate them all). Over all this place is delicious the menu is very innovating, fresh, local and the cocktails are worth a trip of their own to this amazing establishment.

Great outdoor seating, good service and a knockout Sazerac! Good for brunch and group ears outside. The cocktail called the Disguise wasn’t great(not certain of its flavor profile) but the Cuban sandwich did not disappoint!

Bone marrow appetizer: this was the best bone marrow dish I’ve ever had! The accompaniments & cracked salt were the perfect pairings with the rich bone marrow. The serving was nice and big! Chicken & waffles: the fanciest chicken & waffles dish ever. The dish was delicious! Rich. Fatty. Perfection. Salmon: the most perfectly cooked, huge slab of salmon! Bar: I’m a whiskey girl so I was in heaven! The Pappy Van Who? Flight allowed me to try 3 expensive whiskeys I normally wouldn’t have splurged on. The ultimate drink tests-Manhattan & Old fashion were well made. Ambiance: it was kinda chilly out so we sat inside. A little close to our neighbors but they were friendly. Perfect for a date or small group!

Alas… good bone marrow in Chicago! I have been waiting a long time for this! Really great flavorful food. We got the seared foie gras(omg so good), obviously the bone marrow that comes with bread you would want to bathe in, their fried chicken type entrée. The desserts looked SOOOO good so we got 2… judge away! We got the carrot cake waffles with cream cheese ice cream(like eating a really sweet cloud) and the praline pecan terrine was also really good.

Sometimes you have one of those days where going to work is difficult. They’re usually Mondays. On those days, you roll out of bed around 8:30(you were supposed to be at work thirty minutes ago) manage to somehow make yourself presentable, pack a bag, and then fall back asleep for another hour. By that point, there’s nothing else to do to salvage the day except to go get yourself breakfast and hope that a PBR and salty breakfast meat will help you make it to your afternoon meetings.(If this isn’t how you feel on Mondays, I still recommend this place). On days like this, I head to Longman & Eagle. Right by the Logan Square Blue Line stop, it’s my favorite place for a meal before catching the train in the morning(PBR Breakfast and strong coffee), a drink(many types of whisky) after I get home on said train, and dinner(slow roasted cauliflower, wild boar!) when I manage to stick around long enough after said drink(whisky, again). Don’t let the abundance of wanna be Canadians fool you(code for flannel clad staff) you’re about to chow down on some pretty excellent food and drink. I haven’t overstayed long enough to need to stay overnight in a room of the hotel(I do only live a quarter mile away) but it’s nice to know that’s an option for those days when venturing out into the world just isn’t for me. One more thing: If you manage to get out of bed on weekends, they have donuts.

Was excited to finally check out the famous Longman & Eagle for the first time for brunch on Sunday. My two friends and I got there just before 10 am and the wait time was already an hour. By the time we left it was 2 hours. Get there early! The space itself is really cool. I marveled at all the whiskeys they have up behind the bar. They have a really cool semi-outdoor area and a second bar out back where you can get drinks/coffee/donuts/etc… They even have rooms upstairs where you can stay! Food-wise I ordered the biscuit and gravy. I was super hung over that morning and man oh man was that dish the perfect cure. That and the two hour nap I took later, and the run I took out to the lake, and… I digress. My friend’s french toast looked really freaking good and it seems like every table had ordered the fried chicken and waffle. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. I was originally leaning towards 4 stars but the place is just so cool I had to go 5. Will definitely come back!

I came here for brunch with my boyfriend and our friend on his birthday. We had to wait 45 minutes, which I had expected. There’s a coffee/booze bar in the back with some limited food options too, if you don’t want to wait. This was okay, not so clean, but I had a great latte and my boyfriend got an espresso. We got seated eventually. Our waitress was really nice and our drinks were served promptly. We had strawberry challah french toast to start, and it was good… nothing spectacular. There wasn’t enough marscapone. I had the pork belly benedict, which was tasty and messy but not incredible. My boyfriend got the boar sloppy joe, he liked it alright. I don’t remember what my friend got but I think he enjoyed it enough. The food is elegant and tastes pretty good, but its not worth a 45 minute wait and probably not worth the price. I like Jam and Lula Café better, personally.

This restaurant looks like you could pluck it out of Chicago and put it right into one of the trendy areas of Denver. And we wish that they would. My husbands cousin recommended we come here and it was the best lunch of our entire trip. My husband got the Tete plate which was beans topped with a pork jowl/cheek«patty» with a fried egg and yucca strips on top along with delectable herbaceous sauces drizzled on the plate. The pork was so tender and full of flavor and matched perfectly with the beans. The whole dish was beautiful. The black rice risotto with hot and cold salmon beckoned me in and it was a dish of flavors that I will remember for a long time to come. The hot salmon was incorporated into the rice with the cold salmon being served in slices as an almost garnish. Topping that was a fried egg and shavings of lemon zest. The flavors balanced perfectly, the risotto was perfectly cooked and I know that I am going to try to re-create this dish at home. Service was quick and pleasant and if we lived in Chicago, this would be a regular spot for us. Please come to Denver, please.

For many years, Michelin-starred Longman & Eagle was my favorite restaurant in all of Chicago. My friends and I would take the CTA from Hyde Park(1+ hours), put our name down and pass the time at a nearby bar(1 – 2 hours), and then finally get seated around 8 or 9. It was absolutely worth the money and time invested. I was pleased to find last Friday, during my first visit after nearly two years, that Chef Wentworth’s hipster-casual destination has not missed a beat. You’ll find L&E on a Logan Square street corner very near the Blue Line stop. They do not take reservations and it’s a fairly modest space, so you’d be wise to assume a wait anywhere from 30 minutes to two-and-a-half hours. From the outside it looks like a quaint grey-and-white inn and, in fact, there are actually a handful of overnight rooms you can book upstairs. The interior is dim and intimate with a bar to the right of the entrance, about 10 tables in the first enclosure and 7 past the kitchen to the rear. The menu rotates seasonally and espouses a nose-to-tail approach when it comes to their meat offerings. The sizes vary but the plating is gorgeous without exception, and you’ll find the prices surprisingly reasonable; typically $ 11-$ 18 for small plates and $ 15-$ 30 for larger courses. The service is borderline flawless, and the servers are immensely knowledgeable about every aspect of preparation. While not necessary, I’ve found a few of the $ 3 shots from their curated list of diverse whiskies only enhances the experience. Here are the dishes I had on my most recent visit: Beef Tartare(foie gras torchon, medjool dates, buttered challah): an absolutely knock-out starter. The raw minced meat was delicate and fresh, almost like chewier sashimi. The gribiche(mayonnaise-like sauce) was decadent and it would be remiss not to mention the small bites of foie, which were prepared via the traditional method to give it a smooth, creamy texture. Pork Belly(roasted banana purée, pineapple relish): The fatty meat just melts upon each bite and the savory-sweet balance is perfect with the Caribbean-style accompaniments. Fried Chicken Roulade(duck fat biscuits): an innovative take on classic chicken-and-waffles, this dish wasn’t as mind-blowing as the others but still top-notch. Between the apples, waffle purée, honey foam, and spicy maple drizzle, there are so many bold flavors that somehow come together. Root Beer Glazed Bone-in Pork Chops(sweet potato purée, oatmeal): at risk of being too superlative with all my descriptions, this dish was unreal. each slice of meat was pink through the center and had a tasty layer of fat the width of my thumb. The salty oatmeal, caramelly sweet potato, and sour greens were carefully balanced. In previous visits, some standouts were the Seared Ribeye with a Garlic-Ginger Demi-glacé, the Bone Marrow with Bacon-Shallot Jam, and Seared Bay Scallops. Don’t sleep on the delicious Burger or Sloppy Joe either. For dinner, I think $$ is low-balling the price range a bit; I typically spend anywhere from $ 40-$ 60 when I come with a group. Longman also offers a phenomenal brunch menu that takes tried-and-true breakfast courses and elevates them to new heights with fascinating combinations and high-end ingredients. This place has carved out a permanent place among Chicago’s elite culinary institutions, and I don’t see it being dethroned any time soon.

Longman & Eagle, remember that. So many people have recommended this restaurant/bar that it should be one of the landmarks of Chicago. It is located near the Logan Station. After having wine with my friend at Webster and making a new friend, we went to Longman & Eagle. It was literally just a few doors down. We sat at the bar, which was busy. The bartender was a friend of our new friend, and they were so happy to see each other. The bartender also greeted us very happily. My friend and I ordered a dessert that we really wanted to try from the menu: Purple Yams. It was served with ice cream form with lychee, crispy rice, and little breads. I am not describing it right but it was absolutely delicious! I’ve never tasted anything like it. My friends also ordered Stigler(sp?) beers and they loved it. I had Virgin vodka(aka H2O) because I was beyond full and stuffed. The atmosphere at the bar was awesome – friendly people, nice staff, happy bartenders, and more. The music was great too, everyone was jamming to the songs and talking. We didn’t get to try the regular food but if I am ever back in Chicago again, I’d love to try. There’s also another dining area and bar in the back but it was closed by the time we got there.

This place is best described as 90s grunge– from the overall atmosphere, to the employees to the patrons. I know. It’s a weird to describe a restaurant’s vibe in terms of a 90’s fashion trend. You’ll know what I mean once(if) you go! The OSB is a small teeny bar(the bar itself is tiny but has plenty of seating) where the amount of liquid poured didn’t even cover the small ice cube in the glass. If I was to base my experience on this one drink I would advise to stay up at the front bar — but it was just one drink, one time– perhaps it was just a bad pour. The burger left something to be desired. And that something was more meat! Perhaps it the plain bun that was too big for the burger but most likely it was the burger patty too petite for the bun. The meat had decent flavor and was apparently covered by cheese.(Neither I nor my dining partner tasted the cheese. The day after we looked at our pics and noted the patty covered in a yellow cheese!) Please note it was so incredibly dark in there we couldn’t even see our food. This is never a good a thing. In the end the burger was good but I left hungry!

I wavered between 3 and 4 stars but I think I have to go with the 3. Longman & Eagle was recommended to me by several people and is Michelin starred so I knew I’d have to give it a try. Our group of 5 got to Longman around 7pm on Saturday night and were told it would be a 2 – 3 hour wait. ARGHH I hate when popular restaurants don’t take reservations! So sucked it up and wandered over to Azucar for dinner #1. By the time our table was ready, it was close to 10pm. I enjoyed the dishes, but nothing really blew my mind. The staff are super friendly and helpful and I really like the back bar where you can hang out and wait for your table. The place is pretty small, hence the multiple hour long waits and they don’t take reservations :(Maybe my experience was tainted by the long wait we had, or maybe we ordered the wrong items, and although I’m glad we tried it, I don’t think I’d come back.

Went there with family, party of 4. This place doesn’t accept reservation but we got lucky to have a nice table by the bar area. Normally, there is a long wait especially, for dinner but guess, I was a lucky charm. This is a mid-size restaurant that has separate off site bar(OSB at L&E) located next to the restaurant proper, They offer private dinning in here, accommodate up to 20 – 35 seats. We all enjoyed each other company and those deliciousness but we enjoyed more with their creativity & presentation, very unique and creative the way they do. I really appreciate when it comes to dinning experience and I get more than just to enjoy the taste of food or a beautiful place. L&E gave me more than that. I can feel the passion of the chef, creating all the dished that are considerate, deliberative and flavorful with an emphasis on sourcing the finest local ingredients. that’s why they change their menu frequently, sometime daily, as ingredients allow, so you can’t always expect to have the same dish that you ordered from your last visit. I wanted to try one of their house cocktails“Young At Heart” but they didn’t have enough ingredient to make it so I had to try something else. I liked my drinks OK, I noticed that most of their cocktails were whiskey– based, they were good but too strong for me(Tio Italiano) but if you like bourbon drinks you will like that. Finally, found something that I really enjoyed«The Violoet Buck» very delightful. We ordered a lot of food, some of the starter dishes were very small so we had a few of those and a few of entrees dishes. I really loved the seared strip steak and bone marrow that served with crunchy toast, very delicious. Happy ending with these two desserts, #1 Praline Pecan Terrine: Caramel & Bourbon Espresso, Honey Foam, Chocolate Oil, Malted Ice Cream, Molasses Syrup and Chocolate Powder, it’s worth more than $ 10. #2 Carrot cake Waffle: Spice Carrot Syrup, Pineapple Gastrique, Carrot Raisin Purée, Cream Cheese Custard, Date Pecan Purée, Carrot Air, Cream Cheese Ice Cream and fried carrot. Same price for all desserts. Want to have a happy ending meal? try them :)

It is a mostly impeccable dining experience that comes at a price. From bites to small plates to entrees and drinks, our party of 4 certainly reveled consummately but it set me back just over $ 300. It’s a decidedly whiskey-centric bar with many whiskey-based cocktails, but certainly other interesting options like Tio Italiano, a smoky mezcal-based drink, or Violoet Buck with gin, lime, sugar, ginger beer and byrrh(aromatised wine-based apéritif made of red wine, mistelle, and quinine). Beers run the gamut from a ton of IPA options to nice imperial stouts. The wine list looks good to me but that’s like me telling you that a sentence in Braille is spelled correctly. I enjoy that they tout«whiskey for your mouth, not for our shelves,» and have 30+ to enjoy in shot form for $ 3. Dad and I had a James E. Pepper 1776 rye that was spicy and smooth. Food is beautiful, challenging yet approachable, a mix of classic and new. 4 potato leek soup amuses surprised us, a nice touch, though I’ve had better rich soups of the type. Octopus with boudin noir(blood sausage) was fantastic though I could’ve done without the sausage part, never been one for blood-soaked meats. Pork belly with banana, plantain, pineapple and coconut was a table-pleaser. It’s hard to muck up pork belly methinks and this was a novel preparation. The giant marrow bones with bacon-shallot jam, green apple kimchi, pickled garlic and shallots were a sight to behold and eat! Kimchi, however, is a strong taste and its appearance in this and another dish I felt was too overpowering a fermented-y taste. The above were all«small bites» but still upwards of $ 20 each. We enjoyed entrees of albacore tuna with hominy ravioli and fermented cabbage(again with the kimchi type stuff), perfectly mid-rare seared strip steak with hen egg, barley risotto, KIMCHI(too much!), and delicious cauliflower with lentils. Desserts may just have been the stars of the show. Another reviewer said L&E was like an approachable Alinea and while I disagree wholeheartedly, the desserts were the most Alinea-esque items. We had: Praline Pecan Terrine, Caramel & Bourbon, Espresso, Honey Foam, Chocolate Oil, Malted Ice Cream, Molasses Syrup, Chocolate Powder Carrot Cake Waffle, Spiced Carrot Syrup, Pineapple Gastrique, Carrot Raisin Purée, Cream Cheese Custard, Date Pecan Purée, Carrot Air, Cream Cheese Ice Cream, Fried Carrot Both were $ 10 and regardless of if you think airs and foams are gastronomy gimmicks, the desserts were crazy tasty and well worth the price. I’d put L&E on a list of best dessert places around town! Service was perfect; there when you needed it, not when you don’t. The dining room is cozy and convivial but the raucous din of loud diners trying to talk over fairly loud music could be hushed a bit.

Usually after traveling I am in the mood for food, so when my cousin offered to meet here for dinner after my long-ish flight, I immediately said yes. Coming in on a Wednesday night, I was surprised at how packed it was, but after eating the food I can definitely see why Longman & Eagle is so popular. My cousin and I shared the duck in a jar and the beef tartare, both of which were utterly delicious. My favorite of the two was the tartare because I am a lover of all things foie gras — a foie-natic if you will. And if I didn’t know it before, I now know that tenderly sliced foie and raw beef make for the perfect pairing. Do note that they do not take reservations, but if you come in on a weeknight you’re likely to be seated fairly quickly(considering the normal wait time is 1+ hours on the weekend). Or better yet, grab a seat at the bar and have a cocktail or two with your meal!

I came here specifically for the Donut shop pop-up in their OSB. I’m a bit of a self-proclaimed donut connoisseur. But sadly, I’m a vegetarian and did not know until I got there that their donuts are fried in beef fat. On the plus side, at least they make that clear on the menu. Now I’m faced with an ethical quandary: do I get a donut? Ultimately I did not, because I was afraid that I would get sick from that much beef product when I haven’t had any mammalian products in 5 years. But my friend ordered 3 kinds of donuts, and I tried pieces of all of them, because how could I not?(I still wear leather that I bought prior to becoming vegetarian, so whatever). They were quite tasty, but not the best donuts I’ve ever had. But, their whiskey and bourbon selection is impressive. I ordered one of their $ 3 shots(1776 Rye) and it was very tasty, and complimented the donuts very well. From a service standpoint, the staff were all great and the OSB space in the back is very cool. We were there for 2+ hours and never felt rushed. I would definitely be up for trying the full restaurant sometime.
