Okay this place was so good! The pizza was on point and worth all the hype! I ordered the small Manati pizza with the sausage. The cheese literally wouldn’t detach from my mouth. That’s what I’m talking about.

Sorry, Giordano’s. I seem to like Lou’s better. In the 20 years I’ve lived here, I’ve never taken the parental units to Lou’s. Like me, they’re not fans of deep dish and prefer thin crust. And they’re usually not in the mood for pizza whenever they are in town, until their most recent visit. I made the mistake of taking them before Memorial Weekend began. Wait time is as can be expected and I shouldn’t have been surprised. Plus, this location is smaller, even with the second floor. The hostess suggested ordering while we waited(25 – 30 min approx.) so by the time we sat down, our order would likely be ready. It’s a great suggestion but doesn’t always work out. Expect about the same time frame when seated. But it all worked out because my parents left satisfied. Also, a small size pizza is good enough for at least 2 – 3 people. I didn’t think it would be, and we ended up with leftovers. If you can’t handle the stairs, mention that up front. I didn’t notice an elevator, but the hostess was able to seat us on the first floor, making it easier for Mom A.

2 words, «Deep Dish»! We ate at Lou Malnati’s because the restaurant can accommodate large groups and we were not disappointed. The service was great, the staff was nice and the food was good as usual. I ordered the Lou Malnati with pepperoni and it was great. I seldom eat deep dish pizza but when I do this is the place!

Found out that I can order some Lou Malnati’s pizza from . Since I didn’t visit the pizzeria personally, I can’t comment on service or ambiance. Based on taste alone, we were very happy. Our pizzas arrived all boxed up with dry ice. It was neatly and securely packed. Placed our pizzas in the freezer and when we were ready to enjoy them, we just followed their simple directions. Tried the Pepperoni, Sausage, Spinach, and Cheese. They were all delicious and made with quality ingredients. The crust was thin, buttery and crisp. The sauce was smooth, light, and flavorful. Quality ingredients are used and you can taste it. We are incredibly satisfied with our order. I’m sure nothing beats actually being at Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria, but for now this will do: D Yum!

So, we heard that this was Chicago’s best deep dish pizza. I cannot say it is the best, but I can say that it is the best I have ever had… it is the first! We waited 45 minutes for our specialty pizza to be delivered. The server came out with it in potholders, warning us that it just came out of the oven and was HOTTTT! Not at all. In fact, it was room temperature, at best. BUTNOTALLWASLOST or a DISAPPOINTMENT! The kitchen management took full responsibility and brought out a brand new one with apologies. It most likely was someone else’s because it only took 10 minutes, but nevertheless… Mistakes happen so making it right for the customer gives them a 4star!

Solid deep dish. The crust is tender and crunchy, and the sauce is flavorful. There is too much cheese for my liking, so I just don’t eat all of it. I think it’s a decent place to take visitors to try out deep dish. I’ve taken friends visiting on 2 separate occasions, and the pizza was enjoyed both times.

Let me start off by saying I’m not a fan of deep dish pizza; however, Lou Malanti’s completely changed my perspective. I’m used to eating very heavy deep dish pizza, but the pizza here was not heavy at all. Food: I ordered the personal classic, which came with lean sausage, cheese, and tomato sauce on a «Buttercrust.» Best deep dish I ever had! The crust is very tasty and not heavy! Sides Notes Ambiance: This place is on the noisy side. Service: The person who took my order over the phone was so friendly and offered really good customer service; however, when I went in to pay for my food, the cashier(a different person than the one taking orders over the phone) was not polite and friendly. Overall: Definitely try the deep dish!

The wait is pretty ridiculous. And the ladies at the front need to get their sense of time more accurate. 5 minutes was more like 30 minutes. I was expecting rainbows & unicorns explosion in my mouth based in how popular this place was. Well, it was good but I won’t wait 2 hours for deep dish pizza. the stuffed spinach & cheese bread was pretty good though. But again not something I would wait that long for. It was actually really spacious inside with an upstairs too. The waiter was friendly enough and kind of efficient. I can imagine it being stressful working there being so busy. Overall it was OK. Nothing special despite the hype. Definitely filling and good to eat when you’re hungry(maybe that was the strategy) but sadly not worth the wait.

Didn’t really live up to the hype. Long wait(which is ok), but when we got the pizza it just wasn’t all that impressive. Lots of cheese and the fillings just didn’t have that much flavor. Eh, worth trying. Pro tip: Take them up on the pre-order of pizza while you’re waiting. Otherwise it takes 30 – 40 mins.(They are very up front it will take this long, but man feels longer when you’re hungry!)

While in Chicago we were told to try this place for some amazing deep dish pizza. We came in on a Saturday night and seen people all around waiting. We were told the wait was a two hour wait so we grabbed some beers and waited. When you walk up to the location it looks like a small restaurant but they have an upstairs and some setting in the back. We looked over the menu and placed our pizza order ahead of time so by the time we got seated it wasn’t a long wait. The Malnati Chicago Classic — Made with Lou’s lean sausage, some extra cheese and vine-ripened tomato sauce on Buttercrust. It was awesome! Great taste, sausage was very good and ingredients tasted very fresh. Very cheesy and crust was great. Buffalo wings — very tasty and just the right amount of spice. Had a side of blue cheese and ranch with some celery. They were also very good. The wait might have been long but it was very worth it. The later you get there the shorter the line gets. If around the area stop by and enjoy some deep dish.

On my first night in Chicago, my friends and I decided to authentic Chicago deep dish pizza. We choose this spot becuase it was only a couple blocks away from our Airbnb so it was very convenient to go here and the reviews were pretty solid. We walked in on a thursday night and got seated immediately. We decided to opt in for the Malnati Chicago Classic deep dish pizza with Lou’s lean sausage, olives, and jalapeños. I thought the pizza was ok. Or maybe I’m just not a big fan of deep dish pizza because it’s way too cheesy for me. The sausage is not the usual small pieces you get at your regular pizza places but large, slices of sausage. I’m not usually a fan of sausage, but their blend of sausage and seasoning sure makes this kind pretty tasty. You really do get your bang for your buck here. I’ve had deep dish pizza before in California and I feel like they all taste the same to me. The only thing that’s different was the sausages and crust wises. I think I still prefer NYC pizza over deep dish, though. BUT you gotta at least try 1 authentic deep dish spot while you’re visiting Chicago

Probably the best pizza I’ve ever had outside of New York. I ordered pick up since I heard it’s hard to get a seat. When I arrived to pick up the wait was 45 minutes long. I ordered a deep dish The Lou – never had anything quite like it. There’s so much to this pizza you shouldn’t carry a conversation. Just try to figure it out and you’ll have an extremely good time! I ordered a large because I got greedy. I couldn’t even finish half of it and I’m 207 lbs. A large itself weighs like 3 lbs! I’m hungry just reviewing this. Would be a very frequent customer if I lived in Chicago. To open one in Shanghai would be very smart. Overall experience: 4.7÷5

Located near a corner with outdoor seating(too cold and windy for us to eat outside on a Saturday when we visited), my husband and I came here for a late lunch a little before 2:30 pm. There was a wait even this later in the day. We waited 22 minutes for a table, which wasn’t too bad. While we waited, an employee told us that we could actually put in an order for our pizza so that it will be ready by the time we are seated(you can only put in your order for pizza only, which is great because it does take some time for it to be made). So 22 minutes later, we were seated with menus in hand and ended up ordering: Spinach Salad, $ 9.25 prior to tax– I asked for the dressing(balsamic dressing) to be on the side, which is how it came. This salad was a good size for 2 people to share and came with thinly sliced pears(added a nice sweet taste), some crumbled goat cheese and sliced red onions. I thought this salad was good, but would have preferred grilled onions. The Malnati Chicago Classic, Small Size, $ 14.95 prior to tax– If you come to Lou Malnati’s, you have to get the Chicago classic. This deep dish masterpiece is topped with sausage, roma tomato marinara and extra cheese. Toppings are simple, but so perfect together(but you can add extra toppings at an additional cost if you want more). The small size gives you 4 large pieces(our server cut and served the pizza for us) and honestly could probably feed 3 people(you only need to eat one slice because it is really filling). The cheese is so oozey and wished I had more it. This is a must order! Chocolate Chip Pizza, Individual Serving, $ 3.35 prior to tax– Not that I had much room for dessert, but I still wanted something sweet to end this meal. So my husband and I opted to share an individual serving. This serving really is perfect for 1 person(or 2 full people). The cookie and ice cream was a good match and would love to order the larger serving($ 6.65 prior to tax, serves 2 – 3 people). By the way, if you want to order this dessert, let your server know ahead of time because it does take some time to make. — — — — — — — — — (Total= $ 29.75 after tax, prior to tip) Wow this meal was delicious! Even though a local Chicagoan(whom I met on the plane on my way back to Southern California) told me that Lou Malnati’s is just«decent», I still think this place is pretty good. I would definitely come back here again the next time I am in Chicago. By the way, the women’s restroom on the 1st floor has 1 stall(was clean on this visit) but the women’s restroom on the 2nd floor has 3 stalls(and was clean on this visit)

If you ask for a recommendation for a deep dish pizza in Chicago you will get a different answer each and every time. I personally chose Lou Malnati’s for my first Chicago deep dish experience and it did NOT disappoint! Walked in and the wait was 30 minutes, luckily I spotted 2 seats at the bar so we opted to sit there. Started off with a Goose Island Green Line while Boyfriend went with a Goose Island IPA. We split an individual salad with red wine vinaigrette and ranch on the side. I personally enjoyed drizzling both dressings on my portion of the salad and thought that it was enough for two. For pizza we ordered The Malnati Chicago Classic, a size small. It comes with sausage so we added green peppers and onions. The pizza was FRICKINGAWESOME! I fell in LOVE with the buttercrust, it was so crispy which is just the way I like it. David offered awesome recommendations and took excellent care of us too! The only downside is that it gets SLAMMED. Since we were sitting at the bar people kept coming up to order drinks and were standing around so it was tough for me to get out to use the restroom and when leaving. I would recommend ordering your pizza and picking it up. I did not try any of the other deep dish pizza joints but I would HIGHLY recommend Lou Malnati’s.

If I am in Chicago you better believe I am going to Lou’s for some deep dish. My cousin took us to this location which was new to me. We shared a pepperoni deep dish and the salad as usually and as normal, it made me not want to leave Chicago! I cannot express how good this pizza is! It will have your taste buds doing the happy dance. The also had a great selection of craft beers available. I was able to point my friend towards the New Holland Poet which has since become a favorite beer for him. There wasn’t much of a wait when we went later on a Thursday night. The service was friendly and attentive and the restaurant itself was very clean and well kept. Our order was taken and delivered quickly and was of top notch quality as I have come to expect at Lou’s. If you are looking for some deep dish and are in the area, do not hesitate to stop in and enjoy this incredible pizza!

Hands down the best pizza I’ve ever had! I saw the Unilocal reviews online and had to try it on my first night in Chicago. We sat down and our server immediately let us know that the pizza takes at least 35 minutes to cook. We ordered the malnati salad while we waited for our malnati chicago pizza. I expected the pizza to be good but I was surprised by how amazing the salad was too! I’m not sure what kind of dressing it was, but it was the perfect balance of tangy and sweet. The salami bits added a perfect crunch to it as well. When the pizza came out I was blown away, the cornmeal crust is seriously a home run. I’m officially in love with deep dish pizza. Our meal was so great that we went back to a different Lou Malnati’s location on our last night and ordered the same thing. Service at both locations was friendly and attentive. You have to try the pizza here if you haven’t yet!

I’m really struggling to know how to review this place — I mean it was actually a pretty good experience and our waitress was super friendly, but I think deep dish pizza is something I’ll stick to as more of a novelty as opposed to my normal day to day pizza routine… Really packed, I tried to get in on the Saturday night and no joy so we headed back on a Sunday afternoon and only took 5 mins to wait and grab a table in the back. The beer selection was ok and the personal pizza was tasty enough — but so much crust, felt pretty buttery(my poor heart…) and crumbly as hell. If you’re a deep pan fan then go here no doubt, but thin crust will always be the winner for me.

I am a believer. After waiting nearly an hour, had to get my fix at a Chicago classic. Sorry to say I am not a sausage fan, but that’s ok! The menu insists you should get whatever toppings you want. Either way, I couldn’t resist getting the buttercrust. Since the pizzas take ~45 minutes to bake, they suggest you pre-order and have it ready by the time you sit. Pfft. My friend and I took this as: we’re giving you ample time so you might as well order some appetizers and enjoy. We decided on the pizza chips and dip, which came with thin slabs of dough and a nice assortment of dipping sauces. My favorite was the garlicky one. When my pizza finally arrived, I was delighted at how stringy the cheese was as the slice pulled away from the pie. That buttercrust is no joke. It’s crispy on the outside but somehow the crust also manages to maintain a good amount of bready chew inside. Verdict? Worth traveling 2,000 miles for.

We ordered the Lou, a vegetarian pizza. It was Cheesy with a capital C. The sauce was delicious. The pizza was tasty and soft. It was more filling than it looked. We could barely finish a small pizza(9 inches) between the two of us. Boy, we were glad that we only ordered a personal sized green salad as app. A star is deducted because a server led the couple before us to their table, then left us waiting for a good 15 to 20 minutes. I inquired with the greeter about our table. A small table magically became available instantaneously. It seemed to me that the vacant table had been available, yet the servers were too busy to let the greeter know, so we waited longer at the front unnecessarily.

This is by far the best pizza joint in Chicago. Yes it takes some time to make a deep dish style pizza so make sure to order as quick as you can. I also want to point out that the chicken wings are amazing, so you may want to try if you’re diggin in this direction. The Malnati Chicago Classic was by far the best decision, this pizza was delicious. My friend and I could not stop talking about this pizza the entire trip. We wanted to go back for seconds but didn’t have time. That cheese and crust!!! To die for! I highly recommend this, it’s called the Malnati Chicago Classic for a reason! Also, there most likely will be a wait so plan accordingly. I ended up eating here later on a Thursday evening and avoided most of the crowd.

Lost my deep dish — ginity to Lou. Literally. The Lou came LOADED with spinach, mushrooms, sliced roma tomatoes, and three types of cheese. Would I ever do it again? Probably not. But it was a great one time thing. My friend described this pizza as a casserole. It’s extremely thick with too much«stuffing», which in my opinion ruins the point of a pizza. It was a heavy dish in every way. The bottom became too soggy and droopy to be eaten without a fork and knife. I’m all for folding my pizza in half and eating it by hand, so this was a no no for me. But again, if it did and had all the things I liked then it wouldn’t be a deep dish. For what it is, I think Lou Malnati’s did it justice. Also ordered the same pizza but with a thin crust. Basically, a NYC pie. Crust was thin and crispy. Toppings weren’t as overwhelming. It was good, but I wasn’t able to take more than two bites because I was already stuffed from a slice of deep dish. For appetizers, I had the calamari and spinach stuffed bread. Calamari was soggy and the breading was coming off. The bread was delicious and you should definitely order it! Apart from the food, the service was stellar. One of the nicest bunch of staff I’ve ever come across. Had an incident with the food but the waitress and manager were so cooperative about it. Ended up covering the pizza bill. That itself deserved the 4 star! Great experience overall. Would recommend people coming here if they never had deep dish before and wanted to give it a shot.

We were visiting from out of state, and wanted a true chicago deep dish pizza experience. Our friends suggested we come here, as it’s their flagship store, and as well as Ginos, and Giordanos, supposed to be one of the most authentic tastes. It was tasty, it was $ 40 for a medium pizza(6 slices) which I felt was steep, and as tasty as it was, i felt like it was overpriced. The crust was really tasty, we ordered it crispy, and buttered — which was suggested to us. So it wasn’t bad at all, the service was good, just overpriced. We didn’t try the other two places for comparison, but we wish we had in hindsight. So we left Chicago somewhat underwhelmed by the deep dish pizza experience we have heard hyped so much.

Lou Malnatis was our first stop on our weekend trip to Chicago. Coming from Los Angeles, my girlfriend and I were very eager to sink our teeth into some deep dish! Initially, I was not very impressed. It was a bit thin, and lacking sauce. The cheese however, was fantastic. What really saved this slice was the butter crust, good lord those bites where the crust met the cheese and sauce were just magic! We were stuffed with two slices each. While I can’t say it was the best I had that weekend, it was definitely special.

The best deep dish pizza in America. Not even a close 2nd. If you’re in Chicago, they have 44 locations or so, and need to expand to other states(like California/NYC). This is the main tourist(Miracle Mile location), so wait will be an hour plus during peak times(expected), but it’s prob best to go to another location which is basically the same dining option. This location has the original memorabilia, plus you can write all over the walls, the tables, etc in crayon and marker. Pretty fun and takes you back to um, 1st grade, yeah 1st grade. Definitely not last week on park bench. Definitely not. The deep dish is ridiculously filling so get 1 or 2 slices max. It’s huge and like an entire pie. It’s not a regular pizza slice. Be warned. Get it to go as well if you get extra. It’s delish heated up the next morning. Service is excellent. Be prepared for food coma.

The order was ready in 30 minutes and we took the pizzas to Millenium Park to eat. I got a personal Lou pizza and my friend got a personal classic. She loves pizza and she loves Lou Malnati’s. Even though mine, the Lou pizza, only has veggies and cheese(no meat), I thoroughly enjoyed it. For deep dish pizza with butter crust, come here! 45 min wait for pizza. Wrong Pizza comes not cold but not too far from it, with an explanation that waitress didn’t hear us well, we had to take it due to wait time or wait another 45 min for a different pizza. Asked for forks for a different dish I ordered since pizza came with things I don’t eat and waitress forgot about it so we shared forks. Not a good experience at all.

Giordano’s has the overall better pizza, but there were a couple elements to Malnati’s that I really enjoyed. 1. The sauce — VERY acidic(which I love). I wish it was more of a sauce than a collection of tomatoes, but it was very tasty. I love acid. 2. The butter crust — Beautiful, just beautiful. I’m not a crust person and I didn’t eat the crust on Giordano’s pizza, but you best believe I ate the crust here. I love this crust. The things lacking in comparison to Giordano’s: 1. The cheese. There’s simply not enough cheese on the pizza to make for that stringy, I’m-going-to-drown-in-cheese experience. 2. Giordano’s flavor combinations blend together in an irresistible way. You taste individual components on the Malnati’s pizza, but they don’t come together. If only someone could combine the two, you’d probably have the most amazing pizza ever… PS — After we got off the plane, a lady told us that Malnati’s has the best caesar salad in the city. So we ordered one. I think she meant that they have the best caesar dressing, because that was effing delicious and clearly made in house. The lettuce, however, was sad and limp. Too bad…

Chicago locals will tell you Lou Malnati’s is their favorite deep dish place. Even my Über drive agreed! And the crowds on a Friday night didn’t lie; this place is popular. Packed with a 50+ minute wait on my visit. It was worth the wait. I got the Lou’s Deep Dish, in going with my policy that a dish good enough to name a restaurant after is probably a safe bet. This was one delicious pie! However, the surprise favorite of the meal may have been the bruschetta appetizer. It is everything you want in a bruschetta: perfectly crunchy garlic bread and fresh flavorful tomatoes topped with delicious parmesan cheese and herbs. Just perfection. Great food all around.

Meal 1 in Chitown deep dish pizza… duhh. My thoughts… solid tasting pizza just not what im used to. Eating NY style pizza for nearly 30 years will result in quite a bias. To me deep dish is Sicilian or pizza hut. Now this is much better than pizza hut im sure even though I was probably 10 the last time I ate pizza hut. The beef I have with this style pizza is 1. it just seems super rich an unhealthy and 2. you cant just get a slice. In NY when your running low on time, rushing to catch a train or what have you, being able to just grab that slice and go is key. Also a classic NY slice will run 300 – 350 calories. One of these baby pizzas will cost you over 800. Still giving four stars here though. It was delish and service was friendly. I will just stick to my roots.

Sorry Chicago, we tried, but we aren’t deep dish fans, it tasted like a common franchise pizza brand that we won’t name. Maybe because we ordered the vegetarian version, as I heard the other pizzas on the menu are much better. Waitress never came to check on us and kept passing us to check on the table behind us. Had to ask another server for a drink refill and never got extra napkins. Oh well, at least we tried it.

Came on a Thursday and it was really packed, waited about 35 mins and was seated and greeted by our server. Server was very busy with the crowds that swarm in at all times, as I was told they are always busy. Ambiance is nice and resembles your typical Pizzeria, this place was packed so people watching at that point. We were really starving so decided to order a family salad to hold us over before the Big Kahuna of Deep Dish was to be brought out. *Update ¼/16: I want to thank the business for their great customer service. Their social media person and store manager both followed up with me even though I had given them 4 stars! Also, the store manager offered my a gift card for our troubles. Very nice of them. I look forward to trying you out again. I was determined to eat some Chicago deep dish on my most recent trip. Our shuttle driver said that Lou Malnati’s was the place to go. I also overheard a fellow conference goer talking about his experience and he recommended to go here. I was originally planning on a different pizza shop, but changed my mind after hearing this place recommended twice. My mom and I walked over from our hotel and it was quite a nice walk. It was not busy when we arrived, but quickly picked up by the time we were being seated. They gave us the option of ordering our pizza in advance so we would have less time to wait at our table. Note: you only order the pizza, not additional items such as salads. We were seated upstairs after about 15 minutes. Not bad. Our food came out very quickly. I find it odd that the employees need to cut up and serve the pizza. We could have really done it ourselves. I think this slows down service quite a bit. More on that later. The salad was fine. The pizza was pretty good. It wasn’t as deep as I expected. Also, it didn’t seem to have as much cheese as I am used to with deep dish. We thought it was good, but not spectacular. We both prefer the deep dish in my hometown. The major issue of our visit came with trying to get out of there! Our waitress took forever to get us our bill. We were just sitting and sitting. We see her delivering pizzas and taking others, but completely neglecting us. When she came with the bill, I had my card in hand for her to take cause I was worried about how long it would take for her to get back to us. Oh man. We were both very disappointed with the time we had to wait.

Despite nothing about a deep dish seemed like a good idea to us, my husband and I couldn’t let ourselves leave the city without giving one a try. We chose Lou’s for its consistently positive reviews. We came in for an early dinner with two friends and shared a medium sized Malnati’s special. The pizza was made to order and took about 30 mins to be served. The Malnati’s special consisted of lean sausage, fresh tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, and buttered crust. Other had claimed that the buttered crust was what made Lou’s stood out from the rest of deep dish chains in the city. From our tasting, I thought the crust tasted like stale, crusty corn bread. The filling was fine. Sausage was sausage, sauce was sauce, cheese was cheese. Definitely not worth wasting an entire meal for this. I will eat my papa john’s, Pizza Hut, dominoes over Lou’s any day. Overall — Chicago deep dish way overrated. NY style all the way.

Growing up in Chicago… you try many many different type of deep dish pizzas. I used to really like Bacino’s but I really like Lou Malnati’s. Giordano’s. blegh… haven’t tried the Gino’s pizzas yet. This place is a bit of a wait… the back room is noisy. tried to take some work calls but I had to go outside and stand. I would recommend you ask for a table and pre order your pizza. Please keep in mind that each slice is super heavy. so I would guess you probably can’t even eat more than a slice(if you are petite like me). Got the sausage, pepperoni, mushroom, black olive, and spinach garlic blend. it was yummy. Oh. I also got the minestrone soup. not that great. And no… there really isn’t anything healthy on the menu.

What does a girl do when she’s in Chicago for a day, but hasn’t had a chance to try deep dish pizza? I stopped by Gino’s first and they only served four slices — taking 40 minutes to make. I had to catch a flight, so I really wanted a quick deep dish. Luckily, Lou’s was there for me! They have a personal size(practically a meal) for $ 6. It took about 20 minutes to make, which was pretty quick. It came in piping hot. I was eating it on my way to the airport in a cab, but it didn’t make it any less delicious. It was cheesy, with chunks of tomato and a crunchy crust. I highly recommend if you’re in a rush. It was also not that messy, able to eat with a fork if you tried. Also — loved that crushed red paper flakes and parm cheese was included. Thank you Lou for being my first real deep-dish pizza experience in Chi-town!

A must when you’re in Chicago. The difference between Lou’s and gio’s is that Lou’s is a thick piZza with toppings on top whereas gio’s is like lasagna essentially with all the toppings in the middle. Make sure you get the butter crust!!! Pizza takes forty five minutes to cook. Lou’s salad is delicious. The thin pizza is also really delicious too!!! Butter crust!!!

Enhorabuena Lou Manalti’s pizza!
