Roberto is a traditional barber. I’ve been seeing him for the past 6 months since moving into the neighborhood. The man knows how to give a hair cut and on top of that he personalizes the hair style to the customer. My roommates and I both went in for haircuts and had a certain style in mind. He told us to trust him and he gave us haircuts that exceeded our expectations. The price is very reasonable as well. Overal impression: If you’re a guy, come here for a solid hair cut at a reasonable price. About $ 12

Mandina’s is a good traditional barber shop. Simple haircuts for good prices. The storefront has been decluttered and streamlined recently, which might make it more appealing to customer. Just make sure not to sit on the Bearded Dragon.

I have been trying to find a good ‘old school’ barber shop on the North Side of Chicago for a long time. I have tried MANY places and I have to say that this place is the ABSOLUTE worst I’ve ever been to. If I could give it ZERO stars, I would! From the outside it looks like your typical, not-fancy neighborhood barber shop with the red white and blue barber pole in front. From past experiences, these types of places tend to be the best b/c they are no-frills but they have real traditional ‘barbers’ who know how to cut hair. Looks were deceiving in this case! As soon as I walked in, I should have known better and walked right back out. The place absolutely REEKS of cigarette smoke, is unkept and just overall filthy! And there this really really old and fat dog that was roaming the place. I like dogs and all but this poor thing looked like it needed to be put down. But seeing the ‘barber’ guy, he looked like the type of barber who had given me decent haircuts at other places so I sat in the chair. He was a nice enough guy but he couldn’t cut hair for anything. I am Asian with straight and I guess thicker/coarser hair than caucasions. I told him to just clean up the back and sides and keep the front and top longer. And told him NOT to go too high up on the sides. Basically to keep the same cut I had but just clean it up. Well… he got the front and top part OK and didn’t cut those too much. But the rest looked just terrible. He went way too high up on the sides and didn’t really go nearly close enough in the back and above my ears. After I got home I noticed straglers that I needed to cut! AND on top of all that, the jerk gave me a HUGE gash just by my ear when he was using the single edge razor. In ALL my 40 years of getting shaved by a barber I have never been so much as nicked let alone gouged like he did me. He put some white stuff on it to stop the bleeding and it stung like heck! He said he was sorry and said it was because it was a new razor. Yeah right! Anyway, he didn’t offer to discount the haircut or anything. Just took my $ 12 bucks and that was that. I walked out with a gash in the side of my head and THEWORST haircut I’ve ever ever had. It’s a wonder it has been open for as long as it has. Needless to say I’ll be wearing a baseball cap as much as I can for the next couple weeks unfortunately. Do yourselves a favor and DONOTGOTOTHISPLACE. You’ll regret it. They DON’T KNOWHOWTOCUTHAIR!
