I think they call it Mas because if you eat here on the regular, fitting in your pants will be No Mas! Jesus, this place is dangerously tasty. Happy Hour Specials are crazy good, at $ 2 a taco and $ 5 a margarita, we said… keep em’ coming for a solid two hours! My friends and I kept drinking, and drinking, ANDDRINKING till they literally, but very politely, asked us to relinquish our table for another reservation they had. LOL. The margaritas are off the hook, very strong, and made just right. I’m usually not a tequila girl but wow, Mas made me a believer. The chicken mole tacos were very good too; however, I would skip the pork belly & bean tacos next time I go as they were way too heavy! One was certainly enough. We also got the corn appetizer that comes in an super cute Mason Jar. This was an interesting menu item that I thoroughly enjoyed but don’t know if I would have it again as it wasn’t something I think I would crave or miss between visits. «Been there, done that,» I’ll say next time. The guacamole was very interesting. Inside the guac, there were 3 pieces of chicharones(fried pork), and it was served with a side of plantain & yuca chips. When it was first placed on the table, I was like, dafaq?! Very confused because I’m Cuban and have never seen our traditional eats(plantain & yuca are fed to us from the second we come out of the womb) served with guac, I asked the server if this was a Latin Fusion place rather than Mexican. He explained that the owner is married to a Cuban lady who suggested he put some Cuban spice in his menu. Not only are Cuban women known to have the best butts, but we also have the best buds — taste buds, that is. After about 4 margaritas, I met the chef and we had a conversation about the Cuban touches on his offerings. He was a nice, professional guy that definitely knows his sh*t when it comes to cooking. Very impressive. Overall, I’m a fan, especially during those great happy hours! ;) my only wish: extend the happy hour till at least 6:30! Ha.

Very OK. While at dinner here the other night, I kept trying to understand this place’s «thing». What do they do best, and what’s their approach? I guess they’re aiming for the ‘upscale/trendy Mexican’ label, though the décor of the place is pretty vanilla — and there’s no distinctive Mexican flavor to the place itself at all. Unfortunately the food was pretty average here, certainly nothing to write home about. The margaritas were good, tacos were pretty OK, but the best part of the meal of were the Mexican donuts, which came out fluffy and sugary, and had different sauces on the side for tasting.

Perfect for an impromptu ‘date night’. Easy on wallet, you’ll definitely find a spot(if you’re looking for a good eatery in West Loop, you know this isn’t always true!), and the food is tasty. Portions are small, but this isn’t a ‘pig out’ place, but rather a place to get ‘comfortably full’. Menus are seasonal, so if you’re lured by the delish Ceviché in their Google snapshot, wait for the summer! Plantain chips with Pineapple Chile De Arbol and Tomatillo salsa is a good starter. Though as long-time Florida resident, I dig the traditional chunky salsa compared to these runny, puréed ones. Tastes good. For tacos — the classics are the best. Ribeye asada(carne asada), Pancita(pork belly) and Camarón En Salsa Verde(shrimp) are winners. Personally, a little less shoestring fries on the Ribeye asada would let me enjoy the flavors of the meat better. Pleasantly surprised with the use of truffle banana purée on the Pancita.

Delicious but small portions! Got the Pineapple guac with fresh chips. Rather than serving tortilla chips, they serve thin vegetable chips such as plantans and a few others. Got the only two veggie tacos they served. Both tacos totaled $ 9 — holy smokes! Although it was tasty and fresh, I BARELY got 3 bites in per taco. Lastly, my bf got the chicken mole entrée which came with 4 tortillas and a bowl of mole. Although he said it was good, the portion size was small and he said he’s had better. I got to take a bite and i’d give it roughly a 4⁄5 not factoring how small the portion is. The price including the portion size would make this a 3⁄5 experience. Food wise based on flavor, ingredients, and service is was a 4⁄5.

Jésus Christo this place was phenomenal. The eggs Benedict had a light chipotle flavor and were incredibly savory & not too heavy. I was surprised that something as flavorful, fluffy, and tasty as the pancakes even existed. Service was great, and the Bloody Mary was perfect combination savory and spicy.

Delicious and creative tacos! They sell this in batches of 2 or 3. Mr Piggy me, I had to try as much as I can, since I LOVE tacos! Ribeye Asada — ribeye, chimichurri, cheese, cherry tomato shoestring fries — My FAVORITE! Pancita — pork belly, sriracha, chile guajillo, truffle banana purée frijoles de la olla. This was OK, I think I was expecting more since it was pork belly, but I didn’t like how the pork belly was more ground up, than expected. I guess its a texture thing for me Camarón En Salsa Verde — wild gulf shrimp, tomatillo salsa, spanish chorizo, bacon — Others thought this was the best. To me, it was nothing special. It was delicious though We also had the guacamole, which was tasty. I really liked the root chips it came with. BATHROOMREVIEW: By far, one of the best bathrooms I’ve been in. It is a single person bathroom, with a urinal and toilet. The tiles were glistening white and über clean and everything was in perfect, working condition. Really, one of the best bathrooms I’ve been in. Sit or squat? SIT!

we came here after the game night at presidential tower, all the good stuff near west loop are probably packed around 7pm on Saturday, so we found this place on Unilocal and called to make sure they still have a table open didn’t have our hopes up high since all the good places should be packed by this prime time, but surprisingly the food here is quite good, and the price is reasonable given the quality, the service is good too, it’d be a good place to go to if you cannot find yourself a spot at au cheval or avec, you can stop in here for a drink/appetizer before your name is called at the other popular places

Trendy and very welcoming place, great for a date. Very good margarita, and the blood orange margarita was amazing! We had the tropical guacamole that was very tasty and it came with these very tasty chips. Tacos very pretty good I had the one with fish which was my fav and two of the vegan ones that were ok. Overall I Recommend!

Lots of plates had some potent flavor, likely the best mexican food option in the restaurant row area. Came for brunch and saw equally great menu options.

Stopped on a whim on our way back from Rush Memorial. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Excellent Margarita. The tacos and guacamole was outstanding. Caught them right before lunch was closing. The tacos were small but we weren’t looking for large portions. The ribeye tacos had a kick and it was tasty. The chips are fresh Highly recommend a stop.

Taco Bell it sure ain’t. This trendy nuevo-Mex restaurant features some slick menu items and oozes more sensuality than a Whitesnake music video. Yet the food left me wanting more. Per the suggestion of Cat R, I stopped in here to see what all the fuss was about. The low light environs practically mandate that you bring a date here and order one of their specialty drinks. My ‘el presidente’ cocktail [rum, grenadine, lime juice] was a slight misfire, as I found myself wishing I’d just stuck with their house margarita(which interestingly enough, had salt all down one side of the glass, not the rim). As for the edible fare, the menu focuses on tacos, which are muy expensivo. $ 9 gets you 2, and they’re small. I got a ‘pancita’ which was pork belly with truffle banana purée and chile guajillo, as well as a ‘pescado sarandeado’ which was blackened halibut with fruit yuzu relish and a chipotle soy aioli. Were they the best«fancy» tacos I’ve ever had? Not by a longshot. And after quickly devouring both, I realized that 9 bucks didn’t go very far. I tried two salsas, the green tomatillo [with jalapeño and cilantro] and the pineapple chile de arbol that had a substantial kick to it. They were a little too runny, which made it hard to dip the various root chips(plaintain, yucca, jicama) in them. Since the tacos were far from filling, I got their ‘torrejas’ for dessert, which was a cross between bread pudding and stuffed french toast. It came with strawberry crème fraîche and a light brown sugar syrup and was a nice was to close out the meal. Bread = 3 Circuses = 4 For an upscale Latino place, I was surprised – and more than a little disappointed – that they didn’t feature ceviche anywhere on the menu. A lime-whitefish shooter with a touch of fresh cilantro would’ve really hit the spot, but that was nothing more than wishful thinking. Dinner for 2 with drinks can run you close to a hundred, steeper than I’d expected. Personally, I found Del Toro(Pilson neighborhood) to have more variety, cooler sh*t overall, and a slightly lower price point than más, so they’d get my business over these guys. Granted, I enjoyed eating here, but considering the cost I’d choose Maya Del Sol(Oak Park) over más any day of the week. So, this place isn’t a hard pass, more like a soft pass.

I have passed this place so many times over the course of almost 2 years and have always been curious about it. Over the summer I even had a small bite of their food at a festival and knew I needed to try this place soon. One of my friends was having a night out for his birthday last weekend and we stopped in for drinks and apps. The inside of the restaurant has a nice crisp modern feel. To drink I ordered the oaxacan club. The cocktail was slightly creamy and and was perfectly balanced. I didn’t notice until after I finished the drink that it had egg whites in it after I looked at the menu again. Normally when I see a cocktail menu item with egg whites as one of the ingredients, it scares me away. Now thanks to Mas, I know these type of cocktails aren’t so scary after all. You must get the guacamole here. We got the combo guacamole platter with the tropical and chicharron guacamole. My favorite was the chicharron guacamole because had a bit of a kick to it, but both were excellent. Even the chips/crackers were fantastic.

This dining experience was extremely disappointing and a complete waste of money. When my friends and I arrived for what we had hoped was a lengthy, enjoyable Friday afternoon lunch, we were seated and told, «it’s going to be a while, too many people». Talk about taking the high-end vibe out of the experience. There was only one server on staff, however the restaurant was barely full. Eventually the chef came out to take our order… We ordered a bottle of wine and some over-priced guacamole and salsa(literally expect a ¼ cup of each). If those first two interactions weren’t enough to take the wind out of our sails, what was to follow certainly did. Service was generally poor. They didn’t tell us about the lunch special we had seen online($ 10 for 2 tacos and a side), also they neglected to tell us they were out of the one salad on the menu. The food was dropped at our table with no explanation — we couldn’t tell one taco from the other, and an overview of the dipping sauces provided for our sides would have been appreciated. Then, the waiter allowed a grade schooler to come into the restaurant and solicit our table to sell chocolates for his soccer and wrestling teams! Who wants to be propositioned while trying to enjoy a dining experience? So inappropriate! What makes matters worse — we told both the waiter and the chef that we felt this was inappropriate. Not only did neither individual apologize, they walked away from our table awkwardly without doing anything to make sure our dining experience could be saved. When we got our check we expected something to be removed from the bill because of how inappropriate it was to allow someone to beg at our table, yet nothing was. To top things off, I used the restroom on my way out and there way no toilet paper. I will never, ever eat here again. Neither will the other three women I was dining with.

I keep going back and forth on whether to give Mas 3 or 4 stars. Definitely very mod and trendy, so that makes it a 4 for sure. The food was definitely tasty, but I’ve had tacos just as good, if not better. Plus this place is super pricey. That’s not my major concern, but if you are serving up tiny tacos for $ 4.50 each, they should probably rock my effin world, feel me? My world was not rocked, but it was definitely a little brighter. As you can see, I opted for the 4 stars. The 4 salsas were tasty, and we probably tried most of the tacos on the menu. All were tasty. The margaritas were actually pretty darn fabulous, so they definitely deserve 4 stars!

Caught up with a friend over brunch here a couple of Sundays ago. My friend originally suggested Hello Tacos, but turns out that place is closed on Sunday, which baffled me. So happy we came here instead though!!! I was a bit early, so I grabbed a margarita de fuego– I love me some spicy drinks. I asked for them to add extra heat to it, and was very happy with the drink that showed up. I loved it so much I had to order another one halfway through brunch— but hey, isn’t that what Sundays are for? I ordered the verdolagas— that chorizo scotch egg makes me love scotch eggs, the braised pork was so tender and flavorful, and the sauce was awesome! I expected I would get 3 – 4 tortillas, but they ended up giving me 5 — - too much food! Service was great— very attentive, but not intruding. Would definitely recommend. Love that it’s in the West Loop too— this area definitely has the best restaurant in Chicago.

The best part here was the super nice and friendly server! Their corn tortillas are home made so gluten free. Their two vegetarian tacos weren’t too good because the ingredients were deep fried. Their mushroom fajitas was bland and came with no sauces. And they don’t have flan. The spot is in a good location but their quantities are also tiny for the price. The cocktails were a hit or miss — margarita was okay but other creations were below average. I was disappointed by our experience here.

I came here on a date with my boyfriend. Mas was underwhelming I hate to admit. The food was pretty good but not worth the price. FOOD: The pork shoulder and the fish taco were my favorite things I tried. We ordered 2 salsas with the root chips, the corn side dish, 3 tacos: ribeye, shrimp, and fish, and we ordered the pork shoulder entrée that comes with 4 flour tortillas on the side. We also had a couple margaritas each that were pretty good! The watermelon margarita was way too sweet for my taste, which made it seem weak. It’s hard for me to justify overpaying for tacos(they were 4.50 each) and dips when there are way better Mexican restaurants around that charge a lot less and are a lot better. The elote side was $ 7.00! That’s not right. This place needs to step its game up if it wants to compete with the countless amount of delicious restaurants in the West Loop area. SERVICE: We sat at the bar and our bartender was very nice and helpful. However, when we finished the root chips that came with the salsas, he asked us if we wanted more chips, and we said yes! He did not tell us that they charge to refill the chip basket. It was just added on our bill. Bad move Mas! The last thing I’ll say is that the food came out too quick. I don’t like restaurants that come off as fine dining but pump out food from the kitchen. I think our order entrée orders came out within 5 – 7 minutes after ordering it, just like you would expect a fast food Mexican restaurant to do. Overall my experience was okay, 3 stars okay.

A friend and I came here for dinner before going to a concert and we had a very enjoyable meal. Décor: The place is pretty nice, very clean, and inviting. It has a bit of a modern flair to it, which I’m a fan of, and there are plenty of tables(of which are not packed next to each other). The windows let in plenty of natural light(another thing I’m a fan of) and the place is pretty sizable if you have a bigger group. Bathroom: clean and inviting Staff: Our waiter was very attentive and friendly, taking our orders quickly and on hand for any issues if they had arisen. The food/drinks did end up taking a bit longer than we expected, especially since the place was nowhere near capacity. Food: We started with some drinks, a couple margarita de feugo(VERY tasty), and then had some chips and salsa(their spicy salsa, the cranberry habanero one, is so good). For dinner we each only had three tacos: ribeye asada(tasty, prob my least favorite), pancita(enjoyable), camaron en salsa verde(delicious!), and doraditos de tinga(enjoyable). While the meal was small, for me and for my friend when compared to what we typically eat, we enjoyed every bite. Value: The prices are decent as are the portions. The taste is fantastic and makes this place worth the money. We had a very enjoyable meal and I can’t wait to come back for more margs and tacos.

I popped in on a Thursday evening with two foodie friends. Our service throughout the evening was nothing special although we were given free samples of their frijoles charros which we all enjoyed. The bacon flavor really comes through in Mas’ cross between soup and chili. For an appetizers we went with the chicharron guacamole. It was a fine appetizer, not too big, not too small and it came with different kinds of chips instead of the tortilla chips so many restaurants served. The guac was good and we ate it all but it definitely was not anything special. For my meal I went with two tacos, the ribeye asada and rajas con queso. Mas’ tacos are much heartier than other taquerias and they definitely do not skimp on the ingredients. I loved both of mine and other reviewers are right, the goat cheese croquette in the rajas taco is divine and definitely worth sampling. The ribeye asada was good and props have to be given to this joint for not up charging for premium tacos. I only went for one cocktail since I was driving but I really enjoyed the margarita de fuego, Mas’ take on the jalapeño margaritas so popular right now. It was not as spicy as I would’ve liked but it was enjoyable enough. All in all I had a positive experience at Mas but I am not sure this place has what it takes to be competitive in the crowded, high end dining area that is the West Loop these days. However, I wish it the best of luck and who knows, maybe I’ll be back…

I went here with a large group from work. I am going to call the experience okay, but not excellent. Overall, the place is too pretentious. The salsas were not great and were in tiny tasting portions with little spoons that might be appropriate for two people to share. The guacamole didn’t have much taste. The chips were an absolute failure. Why the pretentious plantain and taro vegetable chips? They had no flavor/no salt and appeared to have been deliberately smashed into tiny fragments. These chip fragments were so small as to make it difficult to eat any guacamole. What’s wrong with a bowl of salsa and some corn chips? I had fish tacos, which were okay. The wife had a mushroom taco which was so sweet that she calls it like dessert. She liked the black bean falafel. The wife was hungry after leaving. The tacos are small and the tortilla shells quickly fell apart due to their sogginess. Definitely order three tacos. If you are a man, you may need 6. The cocktails were expensive and skimpy. I note that they progressively got smaller. Smaller glasses, less drink. Maybe the bartender thought we wouldn’t notice.

This is such a great place for a fun lively date night, double date, or group dinner! We came here for a friend’s birthday and started off with a bottle of Cava. I was soooo happy they had cava because that is literally all I drank in Barcelona, so it was nice to start with. They also put in a hibiscus flower in the drink, and it blooms as you drink the champagne. So cool! As soon as you walk into this place, you feel like you are walking into a lounge. The music is upbeat and the energy is very urban. The server brought over a pork bean soup as an amuse bouche, which was really delicious and definitely hit the spot since we were starving.(Must wait for everyone to arrive before being seated). As for appetizers, we got the 4 salsas, which were all very unique and either very spicy or sweet, and 2 different types of guacamole. They were freshly made and served with a bunch of different types of chips, like taro root chips, plaintains, potato chips, different types of tortilla chips. It was nice trying different combinations with the sweet and spicy guacamole(which has pears, cantalope and jalapenos) and with the original guacamole, except with chicharrons! What a great twist on guacamole that packs a punch of flavor to it. For dinner, I tried the ribeye asada tacos and the shrimp tacos. I really wanted to try three different types, but I was not a big fan of the signature trio so I asked if I could just pick out any three or at least swap 1 out, but nope. There are no substitutions here, which is the only reason I deducted a star! However, those two tacos I tried were OUTOFTHISWORLD! They are not super authentic, but they are super flavorful and really great quality(meat is tender, shrimp was fresh, garnish was fresh). This may be my new favorite taco spot for elevated tacos, move aside Mercadito! We actually got to try all three desserts, which the donuts with the carmel sauce was my favorite. The donut is like a more doughy version of a churro, but the same type of flavors, which was nice! The berry jam tasted like benedryl, so I highly suggest tasting it before putting it all over the donut. However, the berry sauce in the chocolate cake is perfecto! The cotija gelato served with the«french toast» or brioche is also really really delicious! Our server brought over free shots of their margarita to all of us since we had a birthday party going on, which I thought was really nice! All in all this was a great restaurant and I would definitely come back again soon.

I came here with a friend for dinner on a weeknight. We sat at the bar and ordered food there. It was an hour before both us and the man next to us asked whether the food would be out soon. The waiter gave us some story about how the kitchen was backed up and said that they were working on it. The place was pretty empty so this didn’t make much sense. No apology at all was offered. We waited another half hour before we gave up and cancelled our order. At which point we still didn’t even get a simple«sorry.» I’ve never rated a restaurant a 1 star til now. Really disappointed. I won’t be back.
