I went to this place for the first time for my birthday and I can honestly say it was worth every penny! I had the lobster mashed potatoes and the butter cake. Both were delicious. My boyfriend had a steak, which he also enjoyed. There were leftovers of everything as our portions were not small. The waitress was also very friendly. I would definitely go back.

I will say my 5 stars are for the BAR area(which is gorgeous) one of the best desserts I ever had in my life«butter cake«and hands down best martini«dragon fire» made by Justin. I will go back any day of the week. Love this place

What better way to end 2015 and welcome 2016 with an exceptional dining experience here. Service from server Kim was above and beyond expected. I’ve had steaks at other places, and I can tell you, the steaks we ordered, the tomahawk, bone in ribeye, filet, they were perfect!!! The steaks had taste! I’ve paid over $ 60 for a cut of meat and by far Mastros steaks are in a class on its own.

Let me start off by saying this restaurant’s management and staff are amazing! They were very helpful throughout my entire experience. The manager was extremely helpful. My steak was a little overlooked but everyone else’s steak was cooked exactly as ordered. The manager made sure to come and apologize for this simple mistake and had the chef remake another instantly. He also took my entire order off the bill for the inconvenience. The newly cooked steak was perfect! We also ordered the seafood tower which is a must! Great food, great atmosphere, amazing staff and wonderful costumer service! I will def be returning anytime I am in the area.

Had the heirloom tomato salad and the filet — both outstanding. Waiter was extremely knowledgeable of the wine selection and it paired beautifully with our meal. He was attentive but not overbearing. Ambience was lovely. Zero complaints here — one of the most perfectly done, succulent steaks I’ve had in Chicago over the past 3+ years. Excellent!

Went here to celebrate a couple family events. The décor is gorgeous. And the staff are excellent, very friendly and prompt. The food was amazing. We all had filets, which were perfect. Also the lobster mashed potatoes which are awesome, the gorgonzola Mac and cheese lacked a little flavor but no worries. The cocktails were great to! So as I related we were there for two family events to celebrate. A birthday and an anniversary, they brought out two cakes! One butter and one chocolate, on the house! Real class acts and we were very thankful. Great job mastros! :)

My wife and I were here in early January for our traditional«dateaversary»(because it’s an excuse to eat steak shut up). We’ve been to a good handful of the classics: Hugo’s, Gibsons, Benny’s Chop House, etc. so I feel we’ve got a decent handle on what a steakhouse should be like: white tablecloths, subdued lighting, quiet murmur of other people who are trying to justify a 64 oz. bone-in dry-aged porterhouse, oddly charming waitstaff who are accessible but not intrusive, and tender beefy goodness on a plate. You know the deal. Mastro’s got the first one right. The tablecloth was very white. They also got the waitstaff right. Our server was charming, knowledgeable, and never once interrupted our conversation or meal, yet still was attentive and immediately available should we want something. He was like a non-creepy version of John Turturro in Mr. Deeds(yes I just referenced an Adam Sandler movie). The subdued lighting though… we were seated next to the world’s largest fridge of Dom(WLFOD), which was unfortunately lit with very, very bright white LED lights. Not quite blinding, but you probably wouldn’t want that color tone in your bathroom. Quiet murmur… also not so much. When we arrived, we were allowed to choose between the dining room and the bar area, which had live music. We went with the dining room under the assumption it would be quieter. We were wrong. This might also have been related to the WLFOD and its glass doors reflecting all conversations back to our ears. Yes, we could have asked to be moved to a different table, but we did not. Frankly, there should not have been a table there. And finally, the tender beefy goodness. I got the Kansas City Strip(bone-in New York Strip). Eh. Fairly tough, but INCREDIBLY perfectly done to rare plus. We also got a bottle of wine(a nice, juicy Malbec), a dozen oysters(delicious and with some serious horseradish), warm spinach salad(solid and they split it for us which was nice), lobster mashed potatoes(good amount of lobstah, overly creamy for my tastes, but I know that’s a thing), a port flight(I may have been to beefed out to tell much a difference), and the butter cake. Oh my god the butter cake. This is why you come here. It is flour, butter, sugar, and butter, combined and baked by Satan himself to lure you into at least two of the seven deadly sins. It’s so, so good. It is also why I’m struggling with giving Mastro’s two stars. Take this rating in the context of this type of restaurant. It’s two stars for upscale Chicago steakhouses. It’s not, say, two stars across all restaurants including the sketchy taco place where the cashier always tries to get you to do a shot of homemade tequila with him at 3 a.m. while you’re drunkenly ordering«aburrrido…carn asad n guac t’ go.» It’s ok for what it is, it’s very expensive, and I think other places do it better.

My family and I, a party of 7, went on new years day for dinner and the food and service were both equally amazing. All of the food is tried was amazing but the butter cake is to die for. Omg is so delicious. It melts in your mouth. We got it for the while table to share because that’s how large the cake is, and I ate half of it myself. Yes, half. And I could have eaten the whole thing. It has 1lb of butter. Utterly amazing. Must get the butter cake. The service was top notch and the singers and pianist singing in the bar were awesome. Definitely going back next time I’m back in chicago. Thank you Mastros!

Excellent dining experience! We began with cocktails at the bar enjoying the live entertainment. If you are a fan of the dirty martini be sure to order Mastro’s House Martini, excellent! Dinner was full service and delicious. We shared a tomahawk rib-eye seared to perfection and seasoned perfectly. Besides having an outstanding rib-eye we’re still talking about the truffle infused, creamy gnocchi side dish and the jumbo shrimp cocktail appetizer. We ate way too much and enjoyed every bite!

My girlfriend and I went last night on the Eve’s eve. I hadn’t been in a while, and it was better than ever. I’m more of a fish person, but couldn’t help but steal some of her filet. The seafood tower is probably the best I’ve had. You must try this. I had the sushi grade ahi filet – perfectly sliced, succulent with a bit of black pepper that melted in my mouth. I could eat this every day. Her filet was cooked to her satisfaction to perfection and, personally, was the best I’ve had in town. That’s saying a lot, I know. Great wine list. Eyed the extensive craft cocktail and whiskey list just to stay informed, but we pretty much stuck with the Argyle sparkling from Willamette – wanted to focus on the food. The warm butter cake for dessert is a necessity. Probably should’ve started the meal there. ;) We intentionally sat in the bar for the live music. Lively ambience. The band was solid, played the songs you know, and didn’t overwhelm table chatter. I’m not one of those guys who needs his ass kissed from a service standpoint, but the attention to detail was astute and remarkable. I would say my two favorite dining experiences this year were Mastro’s and Grace. This is a top-notch, classy place, always consistent, and just a special overall dining experience. Great way to end 2015.

Had our law firm holiday dinner twice at Mastros! Food was always amazing, as always. This year we were in private room 3. We had Simo in charge and he was awesome! Very nice host took care of us very well. Only thing we didn’t like was the table set up… It was a long rectangle one. There were 14 of us so we weren’t all together/able to speak with everyone. We’re pretty big on that lol. Other than that everything else was perfect. Special thanks to Simo and everyone else that took care of us!!!

I don’t know how they hire servers here, but our server was horrible horrible. I don’t know this server is racist or not, but one thing very obvious is that she did not care our table on purpose. During our dinner she never asked how our food is nor did she provide any service. There was big difference on between how she treated others and us. We would never recommend this place unless this place change their attitude. By the way, the food is great. One of the biggest problem they have is how their servers treat their customers.

I took my grandma here as part of her Christmas gift and we had a wonderful time. We were seated promptly and brought a bread basket right away(full of variety, great pretzel rolls). After examining the menu we ordered the following: –8oz filet(each): nothing special, cooked more than I would have preferred and not as flavorful as I was hoping –gorgonzola mac & cheese: absolutely delicious, huge portion –twice baked potato: also delicious –warm butter cake: TODIEFOR, must get Overall, the place was louder than I expected but the service and food were great. However, as the steak was underwhelming I would have been fine just feasting on their sides and desserts.

Ok… here’s the thing… the food is amaaaaazzing but the service this particular night horrible. The server we had M. J was clueless to who he was serving. I think regardless of anything you should be attentive to your table. If it wasn’t for the food I would have giving this review a few less stars. But. Merry Christmas Mastros and thanks!

PROS: Alaskan King Crab Black Truffle Gnocchi: I dreamed about the for days after I visited. There were massive chunks of crab in a creamy sauce and thinking about it is making my mouth water as I type this out. CONS: Really expensive for the overall experience: the waitress didn’t seem to pay us much attention as we were a table of two with only one of us ordering the pricey steak(I don’t eat red meat). She seemed to discount us immediately as a low end table and I had to flag her down for my second(almost $ 20) cocktail. Cocktails were just okay: there are way better options in the craft cocktail era Chicago is experiencing right now. OVERALL: I don’t think I’ll be back unless someone else is insistent we go there. I’m all for paying a pretty penny for great food and an excellent experience — sadly Maestro’s only showed me the former.

It’s hard for me to write this review because Maestro’s was once one of my favorite restaurants but my last visit was odd. 1. The hostess who seated us looked at me like I had a third eye when I changed my mind about having my coat checked(it made me feel horrible about wanting my coat checked; I initially said no because I had my card in my pocket when we walked by the coat room). 2. Our server was talking extremely loud & she kept saying«enjoy everyone»(LOL…it was only two of us) 3. I’ve never had a bad meal at Maestro’s but something was off I the kitchen. My salmon was bland & dry, the Mac-n-cheese was good(but a little gritty), but worst of all was the dessert; we order the famous butter cake and the layered chocolate cake. While flavorful the butter cake was not as moist as I anticipated(I couldn’t enjoy a bite w/o the ice cream) & the chocolate was plain old hard(it seemed old). On a good note, the steak was good as usual.

Just catching up on my reviews. Stopped here on a Saturday night for dinner. Started with some cocktails while checking out the menu. I ordered a martini and was pleasantly surprised that not only was it perfect, but they leave you with the shaker that has another martini in it. I like that. As for dinner, had multiple salads to start out with. The Mambo and Wedge. Both were great. As for our entrees, we had a rib-eye, fish, and a couple of filets. All were perfectly cooked. I had the rib-eye which was delicious and also massive. Sides ordered were lobster mac n cheese and brussel sprouts. Both very good. Finished off with coffee and their famous butter cake. Just great. Service was top notch. Atmosphere was nice. Like it a lot. Cheers to all

I came here for an event upstairs with about 30 people and really enjoyed the experience. Service was very attentive. They served beer and wine, but I was driving so didn’t drink that night. The seared tuna appetizer was just a bit strong in flavor as far as the smokiness goes but served on a bed of shredded carrots that helped tame down the spice. The double cut pork chop was done perfectly at medium well and came with a glaze that wasn’t even necessary because the pork chop was seasoned so well and juicy that I just enjoyed it plain. The side dishes included steamed broccoli that had a nice lemony flavor, the creamed spinach and garlic mashed potatoes were a good accompaniment. The butter cake and coffee was a perfect way to end the meal.
