This place was fantastic! I would go probably once a week with my dog when I lived in Lincoln Park. The burgers and fries are amazing! I’ve since moved to the burbs and crave it weekly. Just found out it closed but I hope to visit their new location when it opens up!

I heard that Muskies was not able to renew their lease at there current location. I think a great new location would be the old hot Doug’s location at 3324 n California. What do u think?

Best cheese fries ever! Like something I’ve never had before and Def not your usual cheese fry. Just got two orders! Everyone in there is so friendly too!

The vintage vibe of Muskies is awesome. it reminds me of a a drive in. the service is awesome and very friendy. the cheese is amazing and these reviews that claim it’s fake cheese and tastes gross are clueless. it’s clearly advertised as CHEDDAR cheese, that’s why it tastes ‘different’. it gets gritty because it’s real cheese and that’s what occurs with non chemical modified cheese. hot dogs, fries, burgers, chili cheese fries and dogs. milkshakes, it’s the best. ha

Great burgers and fries, and I dig the neon signage, outdoor seating and root beer floats. Everything they make is fresh off the grill. A lot to like. Only small problems is that they’re not open that late and they’re cash only.

After years of living by this place I finally stopped in. Burger was decent, pizza puff was as expected. Service was pretty slow and it was not busy. However, the cheese on the fries… gross. It’s seriously like they made it out of the powder you get from Kraft macaroni and cheese. The first few were okay, but that taste isn’t something you want on a cheese fry. And after a few minutes, it gets all gritty. So, yeah don’t order cheese fries. I’d have to assume they use that same cheese on the cheese dogs, etc. Also…it’s cash only. Because, you know, in 2014 that is totally a normal thing to encounter when you try to purchase something in Chicago. The owner seemed nice though. I would go back, just not going to order anything that requires the liquid cheese.

I only tried the cheese fries and onion rings. Terrible cheese fries… The cheese tastes like the kraft cheese in a can. Onion rings were decent. And they are cash only.

If you’re looking for a delicious quick classic cheeseburger, french fries, and milk shake — Muskie’s is your spot. Muskie’s has a 1950’s Americana type atmosphere, with additional patio seating outside in the summer time. It’s cash only, you order and pay at the register and then can sit along the counter to dine-in. The owner is great and the cheese is amazing. My advice, order the cheese fries with the cheese on the side. The cheese is perfect for dipping, even dipping your burger. The milkshakes are deliciously thick and creamy. This place is my go to burger joint.

Amazing. I was looking for a portillos alternative to avoid going downtown and these fries may have just helped them beat what was the leader in burgers. I just finished eating it and I want another one. Oh no. I smell an addiction coming.

Love Muskie’s — such a great hangover helper! The owner is so nice and often there ringing people up. Burgers are thin and charbroiled to order, cheese fries are amazing! But remember — it’s cash only!

Oh how my 4 year old loves Muskies. The kid goes to Chalk and everytime we drive by the place he yells out«MUSKIES!» — Well, we finally went. Surprisingly good! A bit over priced on the hot dogs — especially if your kid can eat 2 or more, but otherwise fine. The fries are delicious and I always order a cheeseburger. Very tasty.

great burger joint! Go with the cheddar cheese burger and don’t forget to order extra fries since you’ll be craving more. fresh meat, soft buns and very fair prices. service is always old school friendly and the original muskie mount in the diner is from Minocqua, WI. You won’t be disappointed and you will return!

Just recently moved here in Chicago from LA like about 3 weeks ago. At that time, I was just finished touring the area when I got hungry then my stomach lead me to this place. I grab some good ol’ burgers to fill myself. The cheese fries was interesting for having somewhat like liquid cheddar that tasted well together with the fries. After that I came back here to grab some gyros. Then later I find myself coming back here for more. I have noted this place as a go-to place to eat when I’m hungry and when I am outside the house.

This hole in the wall is short on tables, but huge on flavors. Everything on the menu is simple, classic hot dog stand fare. You won’t find any surprises here. It’s usually one or two guys behind the counter taking turns taking orders and making everything fresh to order. It’s a no frills, just deliciousness kind of place where you can enjoy your burger and shake on spinning stools. The charbroiled burgers can be smelled from two blocks away. It’s the perfect greasy hangover food and it has something to please everyone as long as you aren’t watching your diet.

If you are REALLY desperate and need a burger and fries fix, Muskie’s will satisfy. But there are definitely better burger places in the city. The patty seemed a small to me compared to most other sources and was particularly skimpy on the toppings. They also use shredded lettuce on it which always felt weird on a burger as the shreds give more of a taco like consistency(which I didn’t order a taco, I ordered a burger!). Please just give me a whole intact leaf and I’ll be happy. The fries were tasty, but that’s not what keeps a guy from returning here. On a side note someone else’s chicago style hot dog looked like it was decently dressed when they were picking it up from the counter. If you plan on visiting this place is TINY! Be prepared to muscle someone for their small counter space and outdoor seating area or plan on transporting your order home for takeout.

Should really be on triple D… maybe I’ll send Guy and email ;) Soooo cute, delivers exactly what you think. Cheese fries!!! Yum, what is that amazing sauce? Get them!!! Burger, also yum! Beats places that are 10 smackers for a dolled up burger… you know who you are counter and dmk…

I cannot fathom the 4 and 5 star reviews this place has gotten. Reading all of these reviews made me excited for a greasy perfect burger that would take me back to the drive-ins of my youth. Not at all. So gross, so weird. We went with your typical two burgers and cheese fries. The cheese fries had a very interesting/strange cheddar sauce on them. It wasn’t awful but not what you would expect. Fries themselves were over-cooked and almost crunchy at times. And then there were the burgers — very low quality meat — reminded me of a school cafeteria patty. Shredded lettuce and the same cheese sauce that are on the fries are what you get on the ‘cheeseburger’. It really doesn’t work. Burgers were also undercooked which wouldn’t normally gross me out but does when the meat is otherwise low-quality. No, no, no. Wouldn’t eat a burger here again even if it were free.

Four stars on a fast food scale. My burger was huge and delicious– a little bit messy– but that gives a burger points in my book. Fries were ok– nothing too memorable. I would return if I was in the neighborhood and they were open. I wish they were open later. they always seem to be closed when I drive by.

Nastiest fries ever!!! What is up with the not quite cooked, limp and greasy, cooked in old oil fries??? Certainly not worth the $ 1.50 upgrade. The burger was good, not great. Nice people, but there are MUCH better burgers in this town than this one. I will spend my hamburger money @ Five Guys instead.
