I did a search for gluten free restaurants on Unilocal. This place came up. I was in the area at the time they open so I decided I could go for a lox and cream cheese bagel. I asked if they had gluten free bagels and was told no, never had them. Disappointed.

Very disappointed in the Lox. I’ve been here once before, the bagel was very hard and chewy. Decided to give it another try. There was a piece of hair in my sandwich and again, very chewy bagel.

Went here based on the Unilocal reviews. Ordered cinimon raisin with cream cheese and they got a 1 bagle order wrong(dry bagle???) and the bagel I got was stale! Called to tell them what happened and the guy argued with me about what I ordered.

Having JUST moved to Chicago from Brooklyn, I was excited to find a place that had a decent reputation for actual bagels(opposed to the round bread with a hole in it that usually passes for a bagel in middle America.) While the bagel was indeed a «NYC» style bagel, there’s nothing«NYC» about changing $ 6.25 for a bacon egg n’ cheese breakfast sandwich. In fact, that’s pretty much un-American. At any corner deli in NYC, this should cost you MAYBE $ 3.50(ideally less, especially if you just get it on a hard roll.) I may pop back in for just a bagel with a shmear every now and then, but I won’t be falling over myself to do so.

This place is addictive. I work nearby, and it’s hard to resist coming in for a garlic and herb bagel with plain cream cheese at least once a week… They toast the bagels to perfection and give you more than enough cream cheese everything is so fresh. I’ve come in here for lunch before too… haven’t tried the salads or sandwiches yet, but the Bianca pizza is delicious and huge!

Bagel was nicely toasted with a great crunch. The lox spread was very tasty. Will return to try more!

I liked the freshly prepared foods and the portion size. The menus offers a large selection of items to choose at a little higher than average prices.

Being from NYC, I am very snobbish about my bagels. My first several times, I enjoyed the bagels, so much so that I kept coming back. However, after my last visit, I was very turned off. I ordered my usual — a sesame bagel with butter — and was very dismayed to discover, as I bit into it, that the bagel was stale. And it was only 10am on a weekday morning! Nope, I gave this place a fair chance. I will take my business elsewhere.

It was recommended by our hotel for a spot to grab bagels. Lucked out with a short line on a Sunday morning. Guy behind the register was super friendly and helpful. My low rating is the high price and quantity or lack there of, of meat/egg/cheese in our sandwiches. They were super skimpy! Taste was good. Total came to over $ 20 for 2 sandwiches, oj and a fruit cup. Just think you should get a little more for what you pay for.

I’m from NY so I know what a good bagel tastes like. Of course these bagels aren’t exactly like the ones you can get in NY but they’re still delicious! The salt bagels are a hidden gem in Chicago. Delicious!

Best bagel ever! Had a breakfast onion bagel with jalapeño spread, egg, tomato, red onions and avocado. Simply brilliant!

East coast boyfriend was unsure of this chain but we had breakfast bagel sandwiches on the fly and he was seriously impressed. The inside seating is not welcoming for anyone coming to sit down and enjoy the bagel there. Doesn’t matter though because while we waited for our order, the experience we had with the type of customers that come in to this location were shocking. Every single person waiting along/eating in the shared space was extremely entitled, fucking rude, and super inconsiderate.(These types of customers wouldn’t last a day if this shop was a real NYC spot) Thankfully the workers there were super chill and seemed very friendly. We will order ahead next time. I’d advise you do the same.

I’ve been going here on occasion for a while now, and I’ve noticed that their bagels have gotten progressively worse. On Sunday I stopped in for a prepared bagel and to pick some up. I got an egg and cheese bagel, which they promptly forgot about. When I finally got it, I received a stale bagel with cheese and eggs thrown on top. It was lukewarm and the cheese wasn’t melted. The bagels we picked up are incredibly stale– I’m talking about chewy and so hard that I have to force my serrated bread knife to cut through. To top it all off, they also sold us a tub of cream cheese that was due to expire in 5 days, and tastes like it already has. When I get home from work today I’m throwing everything out. What a waste of money. As a born and bred New Yorker, I can tell you for certain that this place is nothing like a NYC bagel deli! My advice– skip this place. Check out Jaffa bagels in the Loop instead.

If I was on death row and had to pick a last meal, the bacon-egg-and-cheese bagel sandwich from NYC would be the first thing I’d pick. This place is right across the street from my office and it’s seriously incredible. The friendly staff and delicious menu options make NYC a wonderful option for breakfast or lunch. Bagels, breakfast sandwiches, thin crust pizza and more – does it get any better? I love the pepperoni and jalapeño pizza, as well as the white pizza. NYC is also a perfect place to grab a dozen bagels and delicious cream cheese for the office. Don’t miss this River North gem next time you’re jonesing for a great treat!

I love that they do breakfast bagels all day. I probably come here once every week or every other week to get my fix. As a former New Yorker, I have gotten used to yummy bagels. It has been a while since my last NYC bagel but coming here, the craving is satisfied. They are nice, quick and I’m always full and happy after chowing down on one of these at my desk. It’s nice to have a couple blocks from my office!

While I was in Chicago, I got a NYC bagel. While it was better than a Cleveland bagel, it didn’t quite meet my NYC bagel expectations. PROS –Definitely better than your average bagel. –Lots of bagel, cream cheese, and sandwich options. CONS –I’ve had better in NYC. BOTTOMLINE –If you are craving a bagel while in Chicago, make a pit stop here.

Here’s a popular place for New York style food, from bagels to pizzas to sandwiches. I was there for an authentic deli sandwich, and I left satisfied. My choice was hot pastrami on rye with swiss cheese. The tender pastrami was piled high, but not so ridiculously high that it was impossible to eat, like many in NYC are. I liked the addition of cucumber slices and onion to the yellow mustard and mayo. It came with a giant dill pickle and some rather granular potato salad I didn’t care for; next time I’ll pick a different side item. The place has only two tables, so arrive early or expect to get your sandwich to go.

Very good bagels. Very confusing inside layout. There’s a small bar that probably allows 4 people in total to stand at it(2 on each side) and then there are two small tables that seat 2 people each. People will sit there and eat their food for what seems to be forever while you glare at them, waiting. Don’t: get the sandwich on croissant, just because they’re very small portions. Meat is good and it tastes healthy, but you’re at a bagel shop so get the damn bagel instead!(at least a sandwich on a bagel) Bagels: boiled, not steamed(!) and have a nice chewy exterior and soft interior. The eggwich bagel was excellent. Bagel with cream cheese was a bit heavy on the cream cheese, but that’s no strike against them because it’s fairly easy to remove it.

Walked in expecting a sit down pizza place. It was nothing like that. This was a deli/bagel shop/pizza place all in one. There were 2 small tables with a table of 4 chairs in it. We had a groupon for 2 slices of pizza and 2 soft drinks. What a great deal! The slices of pizza were HUGE and tasty. We did end up eating there as we’re from out of town and were in the middle of sightseeing. Most of the people were there for the sandwiches. I’m very familiar with the Boars head meats and cheeses but the prices per pound were much more than what I usually pay in Milwaukee. It is Chicago though.

1. Verdict/Value: Good food at reasonable prices downtown! 2. Food: The New York Style Pizza Slices($ 4.44 each) are amazingly huge — just over two large slices put together. On this day, I chose Tomato Basil(tomato, garlic, basil, mozzarella). $ 5.76 gives you a slice plus three or more toppings of your choice(pineapple, ham, and Italian sausage being my choices today) and the taste is perfect! You may need more than two hands to handle the but the ingredients are fresh and texture great except for the rock hard crust ends. The server recommended the Reuben Sandwich($ 9.25) as the most popular item, and it did not disappoint. Thick corned beef, sauerkraut, and cheese between toasted bread is a fantastic treat on a warm day. The combo comes with half a pickle and your choice of potato salad, coleslaw, pasta salad, or fruit. 3. Service: It’s mainly geared for takeout, so expectations are low, but good. English and Spanish work well here. The food prep seems a little slow here(they may try to convince you good things are worth waiting for) so folks on a lunch break will need to watch the time carefully. 4. Atmosphere: deli counter with meats, dressings, and smoked fish meets bagel counter. LCD TVs adorn the walls showing the menus and the news. It’s compact and industrial with only two 2-seat tables, so hope you get lucky or be prepared for a take-out only experience!
