Not sure about the not-so-positive reviews. I guess it depends what you’re comparing this place to. You have to keep in mind that this is in a grocery store. That being said, I think their sushi is pretty awesome. I like simple rolls with not too many crazy ingredients, so their choices are fine with me. I usually get the negi hama roll which is about the same price or cheaper than other sushi places, but you get about twice as much at Oki Sushi. They have a great lunch special for $ 10 which includes miso soup, seaweed salad, and a maki – negi hamachi, California roll, or salmon roll. After you purchase 10 rolls(including spring rolls), your 11th is free. Lastly, I’ve always had good service there. The people are super friendly, attentive, and quick to prepare your order. I definitely recommend this place for fresh sushi at a decent price.

This review is exclusively for the incredible value of the sushi platters. We often order one to go and enjoy it at home. 4 large maki rolls for 35? You can’t beat that. Our favorites include a mango and tempura shrimp roll, and of course the old faithful Rainbow roll that’s light and filled with fish. Have been disappointed only a few times with the tempura rolls, but honestly those may just not travel as well so I can blame the orderers. For two hungry, sushi loving adults. This is a weeknight staple when we want great sushi(and fast!) at a great price.

I came to Chicago almost a year ago to visit and that was my first time in a Marianos. I was blown away with the«grocery store». I used quotes because I don’t feel like it really is a grocery store. Sure, you can buy groceries here, but it’s so much more. There’s also a lounge with gelato, wine, and beer, a sushi bar, which I’m reviewing today, Oyster bar, wine bar, grilling station, and other stations that sell already cooked food. The sushi bar is one of the first things that is seen when you go upstairs. The bar usually has a few people sitting there already, but when I was there, it was completely empty. Unlike some of the reviews I’ve read about this place, it was quite tidy and the service wasn’t bad. Being from California, I’m very particular about my raw fish. The wasabi, the rice, the freshness of the fish, and more. I haven’t actually eaten sushi in Chicago yet, so I was kind of looking forward to this place, but not exactly bringing my expectations as high as my usual spots in California. Looking at the menu, Oki Sushi is mostly a roll place with few pieces of sushi available. I ordered the Godzilla Maki roll for $ 14, cause the picture made it look pretty good, as well as a Sushi Combo for $ 10. The Godzilla Maki consisted of 10 pieces of «tempura shrimp, cream cheese, avocado, tobiko, chili sauce, scallions, sesame seeds, covered with tempura crumbs, wasabi mayo and sweet soy sauce». Seeing as I was the only customer, the roll came out super fast, and to my surprise, it was actually really good. The Godzilla was a good mix of flavors and textures. However, it wasn’t what I was really looking forward to. What I wanted most was the sushi. For those who aren’t familiar, sushi is the ball of rice with a topping of raw fish, sashimi are cuts of raw fish, and rolls are… Well, things rolled up in rice/seaweed/whatever they want to roll it up with. Anyways. My sushi combo. Was super disappointing. It came with 8 pieces of bland California rolls and 3 pieces of sushi. 1 Salmon, 1 Tuna, and 1 Yellowtail. The presentation was nice. The 3 pieces of fish in alternating color with the 8 California rolls in a curved display above it. The taste however, was lacking. My favorite fish, the salmon, was not fatty at all, the tuna looked like it was falling apart, and the yellowtail felt kind of mushy. None of them tasted fresh. I really hope my stomach doesn’t hurt tonight. The rice was bland and mushy and there weren’t any wasabi in any of them. There was a fair amount of pickled ginger and wasabi given with the plate so I had to add the wasabi in myself. On the upside, the wasabi and pickled ginger was pretty good. I’m usually not the biggest fan of pickled ginger, but when they make it a bit sweeter, I can eat a bunch of it, which I did. The wasabi’s texture was a good consistency and it wasn’t too… I don’t know the English word for it, but it didn’t burn your nose too bad. Overall, like its name, it was just Oki. The Godzilla Maki was 5 to 10 times better than their Sushi Combo. For charging the same prices as outside places, I expected them to do MUCH better than this. BUT! If you want some fast rolls to go, order it from them instead of grabbing it from the to-go fridge. Two Stars. For more reviews, come check out

My BF and I were in a hurry to grab something quick before a comedy show. We decided to go to Mariano’s to grab some food. We saw there’s a sushi bar, and we were not in a mood for salad or fried chicken, so we went for the sushi bar. Our expectations were really low, but it turned out pretty good. It’s definitely not a place to ask for great service(you sit yourself and you ask for water yourself), however the sushi were good based on the standard of supermarket sushi. Give it a try!

This place is inside Mariano’s. The sushi was average supermarket sushi. I was disappointed with the service, and sat down next to a dirty plate that hadn’t been cleared away and would remain there for the twenty minutes I sat and ate.

If you are going to grab the pre-made sushi in the fridge, forgetaboutit! It is fresher to order from Oki Sushi and make it to go. Good bite portion. NO extra charge for brown rice. Service and cleanliness of the dining counter is a hit or miss. The same with food presentation and preparation. Depends on who is working. When you get the older Asian guy, you are doomed. Tem knows the proper etiquette of food service including preparation, presentation. You always have to ask for water. Limited availability of selections after 9 pm. Spider Roll — the soft shell crab went back to the ocean. Nowhere to be seen. Super White Tuna — good clean fresh taste of the fish. Latino Loco Maki($ 13) — nothing special but good enough to fill an empty stomach. Coming back for Udon…
