I love this place the food is great and growing up on Taylor and loomis. The taste is consistent and the service is awesome and friendly unless you want ketchup on your hotdogs what are you goofy Hi Nina and Gigi

Where it all began… My family and I would walk over after church. My first, ever Italian beef with all the fixins. Dipped with sweet and hot peppers. American cheese came in later years. Fries drizzled with ketchup. Some days I’d have a polish or hotdog, no relish or tomatoes. Times have changed and now I load them up. Chicago or Maxwell style. My first love. Only thing is… I wish they took debit cards.

The food is amazing. The service is fast. Its a cash only place, that’s pretty much the only reason I don’t go as often as I would like.

CASHONLY– it’s good, cheap food. I’ve never tried anything except the hot dogs, and it was very very good! Nothing spectacular or revolutionary, but a nice place to go to for some cheap eats! I’ve heard the Italian beef is the best in Chicago, but I have yet to try it… Maybe for my updated review I will!

This place has a better Italian beef than Al’s Beef. Living on Taylor St. for a couple years now, I’ve had the beef from both places many times. The beef itself tastes better and is juicer, especially if you get it dipped. I cannot vouch for anything else on the menu, and the place is cash only.

Ive been going to this place all my life. Lately the prices seem to be going higher and higher and the sandwich is getting weaker and weaker. Today I paid for a beef over 5.00 asked for it to be dipped with hot peppers. It was not dipped and hardly no peppers and hardly any meat? I’m highly disappointed. I don’t know if it was dude that made my order or if this is their way of doing things. Nevertheless I won’t be back. This is Chicago. Home of the Italian beef… there’s other places that’ll appreciate my business. I’m so disappointed.

CASHONLY! just putting it out there if yall dont know. anyways. after reading most of the reviews here about this place having some bomb ass beef sandwiches. i decided to give it a try and find out myself i ordered a beef sandwich with peppers and a order of fries. the beef was good. nice thin slices. but the flavor was lacking and not enough beef on the sandwich! a few people compared this with al’s beef and saying this is way better and some say this is the best beef in chicago. i find this to be false. definitely not the best in Chicago and no it is not better then al’s beef in my opinion.

The food at Patio’s is inexpensive and plentiful yet sub par. Honestly, the quality of the food could easily be overlooked if the service were just average. The staff openly make it known that you are an inconvenience and unwelcome. Their unsatisfactory dispositions has lead me to no longer do business with this company.

Best combo I’ve ever had! Never ordered anything else there, since hundreds of combos can’t be wrong. Good value and good food. Just don’t order the fries with ketchup. *Edited to 3 stars for shrinking combo sizes as of late.

From Cali and this is the first place my in laws brought us! That’s got to stand for something… Right? We ordered the Italian Beef, Chicago Dogs, and Fries. Since we’ve been to Portillo’s before I wrote this review, I will say the Patio has the better Italian beef! The Chicago dog was good and fries were good, but didn’t stand out. It’s definitely family run and they seemed short at first but once I mentioned being from out of town, they seemed a little more friendly.

Working our way thru the Tribune’s list of top beef places in Chicago from this summer. Been to 16 of 20 and this is in top 2 for us on the basis of the sandwich. Fries are nothing special except they ask if you ketchup on your fries. Never heard of that and it tends to slow down service got non regulars. Counter personnel are not to be rushed so chill and the beef will be worth the wait. Spouse rates this place 100 times better than the Trib’s #1 choice. FYI cash only

I’d read several reviews rating the Italian beef here pretty highly and happened to be in the neighborhood, so thought I’d try them out. The beef, on a dipped sandwich, was tough but bland — bland just like the sauce/juice. The Italian beef should be flavorful. If this is the«best beef in Chicago,» as some reviewers claim, Chicago is in real trouble. I’ve honestly had better Italian beef at the takeout places at O’Hare.

Patio is a Taylor street institution that reminds you of what quick good fast food should be. I been in this neighborhood now 11 years and Patio given me some great sandwiches as well as nice little catering packages that have had my guest going um mm good.

Best beef in chicago, old school place which is the best place. Ive been going to patio for over 20 years and I wont get a beef from anyplace else. If you dont like patio that means you are not a true chicagoan. Great food, great staff, and no they dont accept credit cards oh well suck it up and move on, that’s the old school way.

Three stars solely on food critique. The staff don’t seem to pleasant or nice to any welcoming guests. It’s really sad casue it’s harder to find a great hot dog n beef joint. This place seems on the verge of closing it’s doors. Every restaurant u walk by in that area is thriving n pack. I would hate to see this place go. The food is great, they just need a new attitude on customer service.

Apparently my review got deleted. not cool. First off I want to say that the food here is pretty good, hence why the two stars. However, the staff there is so entirely rude. They don’t greet you when you walk in(I’ve been working in food service for 6 years). Secondly, the last time I went there, the lady that took my order looked so annoyed. I accidentally said italian sausage instead of italian beef(whoops) and the lady looked pissed once I had corrected myself. Then after some lady finished my order, the original hag of a lady sat down in a chair and was complaining about how she didn’t want any more customers coming in and that she couldn’t wait to be off work. They should know what it means to work in the food industry and how to be accommodating and respectful. Never going there again and would rather go to Al’s Beef for italian beef and fries.

Old school cafeteria style. No frills but highly recommended by me and all the locals. Same family for 65 years! Clearly family run! Great conversation… If you are in little Italy in chi town… And craving Italian beef… Gotta try it!

In my opinion this place is the goto place for an Italian beef or combo sandwich in Chicago proper. Once more their hot dogs fries are great as well. Very reasonably priced and quick service. They have been here for decades and deservedly so. Atmosphere: Small takeout spot but you can eat at the counter if you want. Not much to look at but a jukebox that I always wonder if it still works. Service: Quick and friendly. Love the folks here. Alway no-nonsense but very nice. Food: Top notch for a Beef /Hot Dog place. Way better than Al’s beef… way way way better. Been to just about all the beef places in and around Chicago and this is in the top 3 or 4. Get a beef or combo and get it dipped. Messy but you will not be disappointed.

Best part about this place is that the food is very affordable with a beef sandwich being about 5 dollars and the fries are tasty at 2 dollars a bag. What I did enjoy was that the beef was thinly sliced and had a pleasant texture but the beef gravy/broth it was soaked in just did not have enough flavor. It was missing that richness I’ve had at other italian beef places. As I chewed my food and swallowed it down, only the taste of the hot and sweet peppers really came through. Fries here come in a bag and if you order them with ketchup, they’re fully doused in the condiment so prepare yourself for a messy, but fun meal. Cash only!

I don’t know how late this place is open but would get an additional star if it was open after bar hours. For $ 2.50 you can get a decent hot dog and a huge handful of fries. Not too shabby. I don’t know if I would go here regularly, but it is nice to know I can grab a hot dog somewhere close by if I really want one.
