Great barbershop experience. Every now and then I like to get a fresh headshave and beard treatment. When visiting Chicago I tried as walk-in this barbershop, and I got a headshave by AARON, young barber, very professional who gave me a clean wet headshave and beard trimming, without any razor burns or scratchings, in a oldschool barbershop ambiance with european soccer TV transmission, good customer-barber conversation. I will certainly return to this barbershop on my next stop in Chicago.

Phil is great. No nonsense haircuts and having a special straight razor just for me is a nice touch(I’m serious, every customer has their own. It never touches anyone but you. He uses is for cleaning up sideburns and the back of your neck so it’s useful for almost every customer). Phil can carry a great conversation if you want, or you can sit quietly — no awkward chit chat. If you want a fancy stylist, go to a salon. If you want a hair cut on short notice that takes 15 minutes, go to Phil.

Great place to get a haircut if you are down in the loop. Friendly barbers, great cuts, and clean shave of the neck with a straight razor. This is how barber shops should be.

Love this place. Best reviewed around here for a reason. Came here after seeing all the stars. Aaron cut my hair and it was great. Easy to talk to, not awkward, and great cut. Love that they use a straight razor on your neck. Every customer puts their name on the razor for next time. Thanks!

I needed a haircut so I came to this place because of the great reviews. I was disappointed to say the least. The barber cut my hair very quickly and did a pretty shoddy job. After he was done he told me that he didn’t have the proper equipment to cut my kind of hair(African American hair). Needless to say if you have really long and course African American hair don’t come to this place. The owner of the store however was very nice and privy to my concerns. He gave me a full refund without any questions. Great staff and workers, just not the best place to get your Afro cut.

I have been coming to Phil’s shop for around 3 years now. When I first started coming Phil was the only one holding it down, and now he has 3 young gentlemen working with him. I had a pretty basic haircut for the most part, and Phil was perfect everytime! I swear the man cut his own umbilical cord the way he works shears. I have also been cut by David and Toni when Phil was on vacation. And I recently wanted to try a new modern style cut. I let David handle this one, and I love it! He sees exactly what I want and are currently working it to perfection. Can’t go wrong with this place for any age.

Great loop barber shop. Little pricey at $ 30 a hair cut but always quality cuts. Love that they sterilize and save your razor, just for you.

Great place to get a Haircut. Phil gets an A+ for service and technique. And you couldn’t get a better haircut for $ 30. The price point is the best in the Loop. Highly recommended…

Great barber. 4 guys working. I have been seeing Toni for a year now. Cash only. Call ahead so you don’t have to wait. They use straight razor on your neck and sideburns which I like. They put your name on the razor so it’s fresh.

Great barber shop. Tony is a great guy and knows how to deliver a great haircut. The price is great for the quality of service you get.

Entered, had been taken in charge immediatly. The guy who made my hair(not Philip) noticed I wasnt local and chatted about football(soccer) with me, trying to find some French players he knows. Was fun. I had to pay $ 32 for 20mn max, a trimmed head and roughly shaved beard with a buzz. Seems a bit expensive to me(went to a barbershop recently, got 45mn of care with a lot more details on my beard and face massage with hot towel, was $ 23). But the atmosphere at Philip’s is OK, and they’re fast and effective on basics.

3 stars… For a $ 27 head shave I definitely expected to be shaved 3 times… with the grain, across the grain, and then against the grain… A quick with the grain and I left with a spikey head, and wasnt completely satisfied… But then again, it’s rare to find a place that’ll shave heads to begin with so they’ll still get a 3.

I usually deal with David and have always been very happy. My last cut I gave another guy a chance. He was extremely meticulous and snipped like crazy paying very close attention to detail and seemed like a pro. I was very impressed… until he was done. He took what I told him. got carried away and pretty much did his own thing. It was terrible. I wanted to scream! As soon as I checked it out I felt like someone punched me in the stomach(no joke). I could have received a better cut from my 7yr old with her fiskars. So he tried to clean it up a bit but to little avail. Jesus it was bad, I can honestly say it was the worst cut of my life(including ones I have done myself). He seemed to try his best so I gave a small tip anyway. He seemed rather off-put of getting a small tip($ 3). Feeling a bit on edge I promptly left before I snatched the tip away from him and freaked the fk out. I want to go back to David this week, but the experience has left a bitter taste and I think I am going to try elsewhere for awhile.

$ 27 cut + tip, no shampoo, cash only… but they have a plethora of Playboy Magazines! Booya. Quite a little business they have. Sad the haircut sucks. Skip this place if you are 20 – 35 yds old

Breaking my few year long review writing hiatus to sing praise of David at Phil and sons barber shop. I’ve been in Chicago a few months and have tried a few places looking for that perfect barber shop that knows what they are doing with with a mens cut in this decade(so many old school barbers miss this point). The cut I’ve gotten from David was the first in a few years that I actually liked(BTW ignore that shaggy mane in my profile pic, it’s very old) right away rather than shrugging my shoulders and knowing it would look better in 2 weeks. And when you go back, even if he doesn’t remember your name he will remember your cut. Yes, you’ll have an easier time if you like soccer, but these guys are friendly enough that it’s good conversation otherwise as well.

Had to get an emergency haircut because of a wedding I’m attending this weekend. Walked in at around 1pm and got right in with Toni. The man is an absolute expert. He’s extremely precise and quick for the perfection he creates. Price is more than I’m used to paying($ 17 at Slim’s in Crystal Lake), but it’s to be expected in the middle of the city, so not a big deal, especially considering how happy I am with my hair now. They suggest calling ahead, and it’s probably not a bad idea. I’ll be a repeat customer.

The relationship between a man and his barber is sacred; it is one of mutual trust and respect and has withstood the test of time and fancy salons. I have been desperately searching for a place to get a solid haircut downtown and I have definitely found it. I’ve been to a few other places in the area and have had decent but not memorable experiences. But here, I found the man I want to cut my hair for the rest of the time I am in Chicago. David(the man, the myth, the legend) instantly saw that my hair had been cut incorrectly by the last person I went(who shall remain anonymous). He carefully told me how he would fix my hair and how my hair would progress throughout the next few weeks. I could not appreciate that more. He displayed meticulous attention as he sheared away the mistakes of before and by the time he was through, I emerged a new, repaired man. He is a man who innately knows how to cut men’s hair. That is the highest compliment that I can give to my new barber.
