Cashier/Counter person should not be dealing with customers. Horrible attitude and she just plopped pizza on counter. Will order and have it delivered next time just to avoid her or go somewhere else. Plenty of pizza joints in area.

Going to make this short and sweet… Best pizza on the Southside! And, they were open Christmas Eve to deliver me a pizza after a long day’s work. Thank you. I will come back to add more later but that made me so happy I had to post now.

The pizza is delicious here. I always order it to go, and I get it pretty quickly. The only bad thing is that sometimes the person taking the orders is rude and can rush you as well. Other than that great place. Their sausage is awesome as well.

I also meant to say this neighborhood pizza joint competes and beats the big Chicago names! All the marketing those places do has to compete with 4 pizza ovens and some Chicago pizza makers bar none… throw some anchovies on there and you’ll be back to age 5… Pepperoni, sausage and cheese is to DIE for!!!

On a visit to Chicago I promised my daughter we would have an original Chicago pizza, and Phil’s didn’t let us down. We ordered the medium cheese. The cheese and sauce were top notch. The crust was more towards a traditional«savory» style. Unlike the sweeter modern crust. There is a large simple dinning room for busy Friday and Saturday nights. The staff was friendly and easy to talk to.

Flew back from California. Told my business associates and friends while living there mind you. Dat I needed to get back to Chicago (hometown) for business related issues which of course is a f’ing lie . Well sort of .My business is dis. I needed a «jumbo» sausage from Phil’s . I mean? I could’nt entertain another tought ! Dat said Phil’s is a short drive to Maxwell st Polish. Always order it with everything on it when da guy asks and nod your head yeah(don’t even tell da guy no ketchup he’ll kill ya ya should know better). It’s really a friendly place doe like Phil’s. I flew back 2 days later. No shows no ball games hockey nothin just stayed in my room wit carry out at the hotel«Tokyo» downtown. WTF is wrong wit me !!! ???

Before I write this review I just want to warn others that I am biased towards deep dish pizza, and they have some of the best out here. But I wanted to try a thin crust pizza out here and was recommended this place by a friend. I ordered the sausage and beef combo and it was pretty good, but the crust was kind of bland. Another complaint I have is that they only accept cash, and that is not very convenient for most people in today’s society. This place has potential, but needs to step it up if they want to compete for business in an deep dish dominant market.

They don’t need your stinking credit cards. They’re doing fine without them. Awesome pizza. Leave your plastic, bring cash.

Had a craving for pizza and decided to try a new place. I had a small pepperoni pizza. I saw the reviews for best pizza in Chicago. I wouldn’t go that far but it was good pizza… lol. FYI the pizza comes in a bag instead of a box so be gentle when driving.

Priced, prepared and served in your favorite style of cut(slices ir squares), Phil’s Pizza is old-school pizza that takes some of us down memory lane, when mom & pop pizza joints were neighborhood fixtures. Phil’s Pizza delivers on quality, quantity, and toppings and customer service a the way things were done before computers were running everything, and real people interacted, and it was a good thing! Whenever I want that thin crust pizza that completely satisfies, Phil’s Pizza will get my call. Did I mention cash-only? Totally old-school.

Hmmm, I would’ve liked to try Phils, but they hung up on me the first time and didn’t answer the second time. So I guess if they had answered the phone, I could’ve experienced their food. Now I just get to rate their POOR customer service.

I am a fan of pizza. You might say we’re involved. So I do NOT like giving a pizza place 2 stars. In fact, it should likely be less, but I just cannot bring myself to give one star to pizza. We arrived, and had to park on the street. The building looks pretty dilapidated, but that has never stopped me before. We went in and ordered a large ‘za with half olives and half pepperoni. First things first… They only accept cash but did not tell us until our order was placed, and there were no signs to indicate this. I can handle that, no big deal. It took about 20 minutes for our pizza to be made, so we sat in the restaurant area at one of the tables. The entire establishment was extremely dirty. From the floors which were housing 2 buckets to catch water coming through the roof, to the tables which were absolutely filthy, to the restrooms that literally almost made me vomit… this place was just dreadful. I am sort of a germiphobe, so it took every ounce of strength I had in me to stay. When our pizza came out, I was so excited! It looked absolutely delicious! But looks can be deceiving, and it was awful. The crust tasted like stale bread, the cheese tasted cheap and rubbery, and the pizza was literally dripping with grease. Even with all of the grease, this pizza had little taste at all to it. I would not recommend this place to anyone who wants good pizza, or wants to eat in a somewhat clean environment.

I eat pizza on the North side, all of the time. The other day a South sider asked me where I like to go on the South side for Za’. I mentioned a name only because I knew the folklore of it but other then that I was clueless. When in the area, I might hit up usual chains like Connie’s but I decided then I needed a more wider range of pizza culture. So, this was my first south side stop, of many to come. Phil’s is a no frills type of joint. Not the typical family style restaurant with a waiter. There’s a counter to order at, there are tables and chairs and then there is a restroom. You order your pie, you order a couple sodas and then sit and wait. Now, say you entered with a group of four or more and wanted drinks all around; you wonder could you purchase a 2 liter? They have them sitting in plain sight. This is a not an option. 2 Liter sodas are only available for delivery. All diners in, must purchase an individual soda. Yeah, I didn’t quite get it either but then again, they don’t offer much in the arena of condiments and flatware. They don’t have cups either but they do have plenty of seating and free parking up and down the street. Booze is not sold but if you want to indulge, you’ll have to bring all components in order to enjoy. It’s food fast done correctly. Chicago style thin crust pizza is what is being ordered often. The door is always swinging open despite it being dead inside, this is about any time. The kitchen is filled with people constantly preparing and loading pizzas into their ovens. During the cold season which is when my visit occurred, the only heat in the place was that which was emanating from the kitchen, so dress appropriately. The lady working the counter had as much nicety as an employee working the booths at any CTA train stop. Although the latter may be sweeter. However, she was nicer with those that seemed to be repeat customers or locals. Their menu is bare. It’s thin crust, choosing from a small selection of sandwiches or pastas and that’s it but it works for them. I’ve loaded a few photos of a large two topping I shared. The pie had those large pieces of sausage commonly found in deep dish pies, it was overwhelming for me since meat was in every single slice but that’s more of a personal difference than negative. Sausage, garlic and a dusting of crushed red pepper. Taste and texture were good. Served piping hot right out of the oven. P. s. what is the deal with pizza places around here that don’t take credit card???
