I came in here to get a present for a friend while traveling. The sales person was super helpful in helping pick out the perfect gift. Unfortunately, when I got back home my friend couldn’t use the gift I got him. Not having a local Porsche design store, I contacted them via email to try and facilitate an exchange. And they were awesome about it. Showing me photos of alternatives etc. I never thought I could make an exchange from 1500 miles away but they made it simple. Alex, the manager, provided me with an excellent customer service experience. This store is great.

I love Porsche Design. My first experience with an actual store was the one in NYC. Impeccable service. Walking into a somewhat high-end shop is always a bit uncomfortable for me(especially if there’s no one else around), but they made me feel comfortable. CANNOT say the same about the Chicago store. The man and woman in there were busy talking about their personal lives and they looked at me annoyed when I interrupted them for a question. I asked about their new hardcase luggage lineup since I got an email about it the prior day. They told me that they have no idea when they will be available in the store. Instead of trying to get my info to contact me when the luggage does arrive, they simply continued their conversation. I mean, what the hell?

Went into the store wanting to buy sunglasses I have had my eye on for a while. I would expect the sales people(one lady in particular) to be a little more friendly, especially in this«luxury» brand store. Not the case, the sales women who I am not naming was so rude, I felt like I was inconveniencing her when I asked to see a pair of glasses(like is this not your job?). There was no one else in the store, it was not busy at all, so I do not see why she would not want to take advantage of the one person in the store who might have wanted to buy something. It might have been my lack of me looking like I could buy the sunglasses, but guess that was not the case! I did end up buying the sunglasses but so wish she did not get the commission.

I purchased the P8478 aviator sunglasses. I originally had the 66 mm frames, only to find they were too big for me because the glasses would slip off after a half hour or so. The store manager was really arrogant and condescending. I had a feeling about this because I had to initial the 14 day return policy. And wow, did she prove my feeling correct. Holy hell, she read, out loud, the return policy as if I had signed the declaration of independence. She’d be a really great 4th grade teacher. I bet if she handed out detention, I’d get one. Big headache. Luckily, Zoe(Zoo-ey) was there to handle the problem with ease. I got the 63 mm size instead and the sunglasses fit like a dream! We need more people like Zoe and less store managers. I’d go five stars if the store manager was a little more friendly.

Porsche Design is a lifestyle brand store with a menagerie of items. Designed by the same studio that brings us the Carreras and the Cayennes, the eye is sleek, functional, minimal and very German. The first outpost of this exclusive studio in the Midwest, this store is new to Chicago in the Nordstrom Mall on Michigan. From writing instruments to jewelry, luggage and clothing, the boutique is intimate, but the collection is quite varied. I was taken with the fine engineering of a stainless steel mens ring which was surprisingly affordable for how unique it was. It was awesomely cool. It’s the kind of thing that is so subtle, if you appreciate fine details, it’s totally for you. I looked at a mens backpack which converted to a small roller carryon bag. From the grommets to the handles and straps, it was very high quality and a product of thougtful engineering. The clothing ranged from sweaters and slacks to scarves and outerwear. There was a modest sale rack as well with an amazing reversible coat which looked like two completely separate garments when reversed. This again was the product of very smart design. They even have eyeglasses available in the minimal design aesthetic which is the hallmark of the brand. Much of the sportswear is co-designed with Adidas. Their is a hipness and even a kind of quirkiness about this stuff which totally floats my boat. As for the service, it was top-notch. Friendly, not pushy, and well-familiar with the products, I was pleasantly surprised when the salespeople asked me if I would like some sparkling water while I browsed. Most of the stuff doesn’t scream Porsche, either, with garish logos. It’s for people with some extra scratch who appreciate minimal functionalism of the highest quality. Alles ist super geil.
