He basically yelled at me to control my kid because my tired 4 year old touched the door handle. He clearly didn’t want to cut his hair. After waiting for 45 minutes, as I was carrying him to the chair he asks, «Will he sit still?» I replied, «He’s had many haircuts.» The guy rolls his eyes and grabs the height chair. My son picks up on his icy demeanor, says, «I don’t want a haircut,» and the guy steps back and says, «No. I can’t do it.» We were definitely not welcome here. It’s my second time here, and both times I was given the«you’re not at the right place» treatment. Great place if you want to sit for over an hour in silence with strangers to get a 45 minute $ 10 fade though.

Does a great job, long wait, but worth it. I noticed he’s clean too, changes the blade, on the razor, with every haircut.

Second hair cut, had to update again. I wish I could give him an additional star. It costs about ten bucks for the fade I get, I gave him twenty because his work his damn good.

As good as it gets! I’m a boring white guy with a boring white guy haircut, but Ray is my go-to guy. He never rushes and always takes his time with each customer, no matter how many folks are waiting. It’s that personal attention that really makes the difference. I also dig the conversations and atmosphere. No frills, just good haircuts and good people. As a guy who never really felt comfortable in the barber shop, I’ve found a new home. FORGET Super Cuts, Ray Fade is the place to go!

I have found a new place to get faded. I am not talking about a new spot for some libations. I am talking about getting my hair buzzed. Since I moved back to the city a few years ago, I find it harder and harder to go to my usual spot in Schaumburg. I discovered this spot by pure happenstance. This spot is about 200 feet away from Susie’s on Montrose. If you have to ask what that is, I probably don’t know you. I have driven past this place on countless occasions, and this spot is always busy on the weekends. I would see customers leaving, and they had a nice, clean, tight fade. So a few month back I decided to stop by this place and give it a shot. I went on a Saturday, so it was extremely busy. He is the lone barber here, and is a virtuoso with the clippers. He takes his time with each and every customer, so if you don’t have patience don’t bother coming here. He will also hook you up with your facial hair needs. Line up your beard, with a straight edge razor. I don’t have nearly enough hair on my face to require this service from him, but I would go here if I did. This place gets the 5 star review. He is the MAN!

Ray is the best and well worth the wait! There are times that I wait up to an hour and a half for a hair cut. I feel like a lottery winner when it is my turn for a hair cut. I think the wait would be shorter if he raised his price to $ 20-$ 30 a hair cut. The problem is that everyone wants to get a great hair cut for $ 10. This increases the wait time to 2 hours at times. If he raised his price he would lose the customers that complain too much. He would retain the loyal customers and the wait would go down. Everyone wins, except for the losers. Ray doesn’t speak much, but I got the down low on him. Apparently, he used to work for Betty’s & Nick’s on Montrose. Now he has his own shop. There’s more to the story, and I’m sure that you will know who he is once you visit him. He has no phone so you won’t be able to call. If you want a hair cut you will have to wait your turn. No phone means less distractions. I used to hear rumors about some guy in Chicago named Ray, but I never realized who he was until I recently put 2 + 2 together. About the hair cut… Ray is very precise. He spends at least 30 minutes per hair cut, no less. Even a simple fade takes 30 minutes. But the end result is a very detailed, precise, sharp fade. He even cuts longer hair styles flawlessly. This guy is the best! I mean it! If you are unsatisfied with the haircut you receive… I will personally refund your money! Imagine a fade within a fade. What this means to me is… He fades with a larger number clipper. Then, fades down with a smaller number, and continues the process until you are left with multiple fades within one fade. Think of it as layering hair for men. You have to see it to believe it. I would rather not post a review of Ray on Unilocal because it works against me and my haircut. This will probably increase the wait time. I am hoping Ray raises the price of a hair cut. He is worth more than $ 10. So I tip him at least $ 10. Don’t get a hair cut if your gonna tip $ 5 bucks because you will look like a douche to the other customers. But who cares what everyone else thinks when you have a tight fade?

The reason why there is such a long wait is because this barber does a fantastic job at a great price. This barber shop is the equivalent of a tiny neighborhood restaurant that is packed during the lunch and dinner hours. I highly recommend this barber shop.

In theory an $ 8 haircut seems to be a good deal… except when you have to wait literally hours to get it. I live in very close proximity to this establishment, and like many barber shops in this neighborhoods, the cost of a simple haircut is about the same ranging from $ 7 to $ 9 dollars. However, most of these barbers seem to «hold» a spot whenever their buddies show up… today was a perfect example… I arrived just after 3pm, and at 4pm sharp, it was my turn, as I got up from my chair, after reading 3 magazines, another client shows up and the barber says, «He’s next, then it’s you» I said, «No thank you, I’d rather take my business elsewhere»…he proceeded to explain that this client of his was waiting outside in his car… am I the only one that thinks this practice sucks and is unfair??? I’d rather go to Lakeview or downtown and pay more for my haircut but know that I’m being treated fairly.
