Picture this oh-​too-​often occurrence…

Girl ogles wares in the window.
Girl enters.
Yep. That’s how it went when I happened near Roslyn. This sweet, spacious shop is filled with gorgeous wares ranging from beaded Alice & Olivia cocktail dresses to super soft and perfectly cut blouses from intriguing brands like Luxury Jones. And don’t pass by the jewelry either! Per the friendly owner, Roslyn, much of the jewelry is sourced from local artists. I dig it.
The selection at Roslyn is niche and interesting — the perfect stop to find that something special that you won’t likely find at many other boutiques in the city. Clothing prices range from $ 80-​$ 400 with jewelry in the $ 40-​$ 200 range. As others have said, it’s a bit pricey, but for the quality and interest within each piece, I’d say it’s well worth it! Don’t pass by the sale rack, either… many of the items are 50% off!

First of all, how can one not love a store carrying Alive and Olivia? They definitely know how to strategically place their clothes b/​c the first thing I noticed when I walked in was this dress that I just knew had to be an Alice and Olivia, and whaddya’ know… it was! The store has some really cute styles that are «fashion forward» that you may see on some of Chicago’s fashionistas and wonder «hmm, where’d they get that from». Well, now, you know one of their secrets. On one of my visits there, I did find a very awesome Vera Wang dress on the sale rack that I snagged for a very awesome price, so I may be a bit biased. I will be back here many more times and guaranteed I’ll be back with friends who’ll appreciate the wares in this store.

Elise Bergman is a fabulous dress designer!!! She is the reason that I shop at Roslyn, and will keep coming back. I own 2 dresses from Elise’s collection and I am always the best dressed woman when I wear them at events. Elise knows what a fan I am of her work! I will be a loyal customer for life.

Let’s start with — only Chicago stockists of Steven Alan’s women’s line. Plus a collection of other handpicked designers, a cute smattering of shoes and accessories, and clothes designed by Chicago’s Elise Bergman.
I adore their selection, and the sale racks actually had great pieces half off, which is a rarity in boutiques. I’ll definitely be coming back.

I’ve lived in the neighborhood for a little over 2 years and have given Roslyn a few chances to change my opinion of them. The window fronts always are beautifully designed and leave me wanting to go in to explore more. Last summer, I had the summer of weddings and wanted to invest in a dress that I could wear to most of them (all different groups of people). I went into Roslyn hoping to casually browse at my own pace. The girl working, who is not the owner but maybe the manager because she is always in there, proceeded to follow me around. At every turn (and the store is not big), she was there commenting and making suggestions. It was way too much. Long story short, I ended up buying a dress that I was not 100% sold on but couldn’t deal with the girl hovering over me anymore. The dress was a complicated wrap (they always have one in the window) and after many attempts at home to wrap it the right way, I threw in the towel and returned the dress. Of course, they don’t offer cash returns but instead offer a store credit. I was less than thrilled to have to spend more time in the shop. I gave it a few months so that the stock would turn over (they have a very limited selection). Again, immediately upon entering the store, the same salesgirl (she didn’t remember me at all), followed me around and gave me her opinion on anything. I would normally like to have someone’s help when shopping but she was obviously just saying she liked everything I tried on. So, even though they carry beautiful clothes and are close to home, I will not be visiting anytime soon.

Roslyn has the BEST clothes in the city… everything is elegant, quality, and unique. Thw owner has a remarkable eye for clothes and accessories, and wonderful taste. Do not miss this hidden gem!

Great little shop, beautiful things you won’t find elsewhere or see on everyone around town. The folks who work here are really good at finding sizes, knowing when to hang back and when to help out, and advising on what looks great and what doesn’t work as well on you. It’s a bit expensive, but worth it!
