Came in for taco Tuesday. The restaurant was not packed but we had to wait 15 minutes for someone to even greet us. Once we were seated it was another 15 minutes until we were asked about drinks. My friend and I both ordered Coronas and two tacos. Our food was brought before our drinks ever arrived and when our beer came it was warm! The tacos were disgusting and soggy(it looked like the meat was from a can). Extra toppings like lettuce and tomato are an up charge. We were so disappointed and grossed out by our food that we couldn’t even finish it. We ended up leaving and ordering a pizza.

I ordered a steak jibarito and did not mind the taste; however, the rice may have been made early in the weekend and it was Monday. After digestion, I am now sick and my stomach is experiencing a burning sensation. Not a pleasant gift from the food! After touching base with a local, I was advised to not go there and now I will agree. I am urging others to be careful when choosing Puerto Rican cuisine, others are a much better choice than this one. Sorry

The staff was courteous but unfortunately the food was nowhere near the taste I wanted it to be. I had asked for an arroz con gandulez y bistec encebollado but the bistec was too hard and I had a problem chewing it. Really expected more from this place but in the end it was just a big let down

STAYAWAY! Awful owners, filthy place, and disgusting food. I wish I could give it zero stars. It should be closed down.

Hello I am here to tell you that the food is ok its not the best wouldnt recommend. The service was horrible. The reason why I say this is during last years holidays I was doing something nice for my family. I brought a tray of rice i went to pick it up and the lady got the tickets wrong. I gave her the 60 $ she said it was 120 $. That was like a hit to my ball sack. I said lady give me my rice, she called me retarded. Would not recommend.

A bit of a hole in the wall but the best Puerto Rican food! It is the best I’ve had and any other place fails to meet the standards they have given me! I just wish isn’t wasn’t so far away! But I love the is place! Always buy extra to go.

Walked out due to no attention given after 20 min. Horrible service. The food in the buffet looks very greasy.

Wow. Where should I start. FOOD Standard Puerto Rican nothing special. WAITSTAFF/SERVICE is HORRIBLE. Had a big group but the wait staff was so confused food all came out 3 plates at a time. It all took about an hour and a half to all come out. They were not ready for a group of 15 and had to go shopping for food and it was only 4:30PM. PRICES are standard for a Puerto Rican Restaurant. But there is a catch none of the prices charged matched the menus we were given. When we questioned the billing it seemed no one wanted to help and explain the charges. We spent about 40 minutes trying to figure out there scribbles. We asked if the tip was included and were told that it wasn’t. Then they gave us the register tape and found a $ 35.50 charge and were told that in fact the tip was included. End of story after heading home and totally all the food again with there price we found that we were over charged over $ 40.00. Walked in on Saturday September 13th at 4:30pm and left at 7:30pm. 3 hours, mediocre food, bad service, and price cheating – Just not worth it.

If you’re not from the neighborhood, you’re not welcome here. It could not be made more clear by our last experience. We were greeted by the smell of a dining room mopped with a several day old bucket of mildewy water. Our waitress had a ton of attitude and couldn’t even be bothered to be polite. Our food was just simply pulled out from under the hot lamps in the front of the store but somehow that took almost an hour. How do you get cold tostones when they were just under a hot lamp? your waitress takes them out and lets them sit, that’s how. Other customers(those who were welcome) were served with a smile, ate, paid and left before we even got our food. They claimed they were making what we ordered, but the other customers ordered the same things. We saw the meat pie delivered, it’s hard to miss. The final straw was when the bill came and was over $ 20 higher than it should have been. Our waitress just washed her hands of it and blamed the cashier, who took about 15 minutes to reappear after being told we wanted to discuss some discrepancies. In the same breath she claimed the all the menu prices are correct and then said that the price had changed on two of the items recently. There was so much lying and confusing information being tossed around that we could not work out the bill. We finally left. The food itself was mostly oily and soggy reheated. Why are they using american cheese in their dishes? How it took 50 minutes to give us microwaved rice I’ll never know. The tostones and chicken sandwich was good, but its not worth being treated like some kind of outcast because you’re not their target clientele. Both the people who ordered the famous jibarrito, threw it up a few hours later. Go to Vida on 35th and Western. It’s way better in every way.

FOOD: You can’t beat the food of ‘Sabor Latino’. They bring out fresh bread and butter to start, and then the rice, beans, and meat are simply amazing. The items in the front counter are a nice bit to grab on the way out the door. I had a jibarito de lechon and was in heaven during my time there. MANAGEMENT: I think there may be a few gaps with the managing of the store’s supply. They were out of carne frita and diet coke. What restaurant chain runs out of Diet Coke at 8:30PM on a Saturday night? And the group next to us took off when they found out there wasn’t any carne frita. I’m guessing they’re a little weak on managing food orders and keeping things in stock. But hey, if they avoid over-ordering stuff in order to keep food fresh and not have to stuff things in the freezer, more power to them. Also, their machine wouldn’t accept two cards we had. Luckily, we had cash, but I think the waitress lost a bit on the tip because OF that. SERVICE: Waitress was very friendly and offered good explanations of food items. My order was mismarked(I had actually ordered a ‘cena’), but she made up for it by bringing us a couple of orders of tostones, which we did not actually ask for, but she heard us explaining those with interest to my parents who were with us. That was really considerate of her. We just moved to the area and will definitely be back many more times!

Ok, so I used to frequent this joint a lot. The pasteles were great. The arroz con gandules were savory, and the carne frita was my absolute favorite. Then the unthinkable happened, my family and I dined in one day and as we were eating… a rat crept across the restaurant floor. I was so taken aback and disgusted that I had to walk out of the restaurant right there and then while my husband paid. I and another guest could not handle it. Then the owner said that someone must’ve left the door open. Only makes me wonder what else has happened the many times«the door had been left open.»

The food is good. But, for the love of god, TURNTHEHEATON. You can’t enjoy your food when the temperature inside is the same as outside. And faster service would help.

Great value for the $$$. Try the Jibarito sandwich… the«bread» is fried plantains. Quite a unique treat for the landlocked Midwesterner!

I stopped dining here when I realized that there’s better PR food within walking distance of my house. The last time I ordered take out the girl behind the counter did not speak English and couldn’t figure out how to wrap up a jibarito to go in a container. She just didn’t know how to do it, and I had to mime with my hands how to put a jibarito in a styrofoam container. Lame.

Horrible service… Not enough menus. Dirty tables, and rude waitress. Apparently they don’t know how to use the credit machine because she also over charged me, then she pulled the money out of the register for over charging my card.

Tried the Puerto Rican sandwich at the Taste of Chicago festival, it was so bad I specifically remembered the name of the booth. The sandwich was a skinny slice of steak in a soggy piece of bread with some mayonnaise, that’s all. It was incredible how bad it was, definitely the worst Taste of Chicago booth. I’m thinking they attended the festival to make some quick money because they really don’t put much care into the food and don’t expect people to visit their real restaurant.

Foods going down hill at this place. Been comming to eat here since you could here the rats running around in the second floor of this place(20yrs). Bacalaito was soggy and oily. Relleno de papa had no flavor. Alcapurria de yuca– no flavor. This is «sabor»(which means flavor in spanish) latino isn’t it? Not going here anymore. 1 star for convinience, other star for PR support… I guess.

I ordered take-out from this place.(Well, my spanish speaking co-worker did) I had the chicken soup with noodles. I am pretty sure I went to heaven for the 15 minutes I was eating it. It was the best tasting liquidy warm goodness ever. I am not sure what spices were in that fine bowl, but I will order it again and again! The second time I ordered the BBQ Pork Sandwich and the Chicken sandwich. My husband and I split these. The Pork was amazing. We will come again and get the BBQ Pork sandwich and the rice con condules. Also They do not take credit cards/debit cards. CASHONLY!

This place didn’t really do it for me. The dining area was very comfortable and nice, but our waitress really did not care to help us or serve us. She had an attitude when she took our order, and after our food was delivered, we did not see her anymore! I ordered the fried pork jibarito. The plantains were fried very nicely, but the pork was super dry. My friend ordered the fried pork dinner and the pork was also very dry. However, the rice that came with the dinner was excellent! My other friend ordered the mofango which tasted pretty good. Overall, not my best experience and I dont think I’ll be returning anytime soon. One great convenience about this place is that you can order your food at the front counter where they have A LOT of fried food you can carry out.

What’s the best way to say, «Happy Birthday»? Mofongo, of course! For my [mumblemumble]th birthday, some friends and I headed to Humboldt Park to chow down at SL. It was a pretty great experience. First of all, it’s BYO. If you have never consumed copious amounts of wine out of styrofoam cups, you should. I felt like I was back in high sch… college. I felt like I was back in my senior year of college. The layout of the restaurant is very welcoming. You first come into a quick counter, where you can order off a board, look into the display case and point and/or interact with the cooks/cashier. If you move past that action, you come into a largish dining room with plenty of seating. That’s where we were. As we laughed at blind dates(mine), flag football injuries and oyster fests that didn’t serve oysters, we received our food. We ordered too much. I had no idea of the amounts of food you get here, but you won’t leave hungry. That’s a promise. For apps, we got the mofongo(delicious), alcapurria(delicious), maduros(so delicious) and yuca. Those options could have been meal alone. But, this is me we’re talking about, so I ordered a meal(‘natch). I ordered the fried fish. I’m not talking about a mounted fish on the wall, singing the praises of getting back a fillet of itself(disturbing — but see what I did there? You’re singing the jingle, aren’t you?). I am talking about a fish(minus the head), dunked in a fryer and served up with yellow rice and salad. It was awesome. It was fresh, filling and well seasoned. From what I could tell by the food babies germinating in everyone’s stomachs, everyone was pleased with their meal. And, we all had plenty of leftovers to eat the next day. Yes, getting a cab later at night on that stretch of North might be a problem, but it _is_on North Avenue, so one can be dispatched lickety split. And, after eating all that food, you should probably take a walk anyway, mkay?
