I highly recommend this place when it comes to getting a good /quality hair cut! This was my first time going to this place, and I loved the results. Paul was amazing at explaining every step and showing what he needed to do in order for my hair to look great. He was friendly and very professional :))) I’m going back for sure :)))

My stylist moved to this salon from a big west loop, kinda uppity salon. And although I have to travel 30 – 45 mins depending on traffic, I don’t mind at all. Plus I recently started taking the red line that gets off a half a block away! But this small friendly salon is great. Staff is always super kind and remember to ask me things going on in my life that I may have shared during my last visit. I enjoy that kind of customer service.

Came in for light blue streaks on the lower 5 inches of my black hair. The bleach stripping took the longest and the actual coloring felt rushed. It came out mostly weak and spotty(I still see blonde) and more bluegreen than blue. Pretty disappointed as it didn’t come out near to what I showed them, but jobs done and it’s okay looking. I was the only customer and I think the stylist might’ve been frustrated by an unprofessional assistant. Hoped the ‘color specialist’, as indicated by the window, wouldn’t be affected by it, but… I don’t think I’d go back unless I needed a quick trim.

I don’t write many Unilocal reviews and I really hate the idea of writing a bad one, but I really, really hated my experience at Salon 64. I went in there for a haircut and to get my beard and mustache trimmed. I said that I was headed out of town on a fun trip and wanted the mustache kept long enough to so that I could wax and curl it. Then he started to trim the $%^&ing mustache, saying that he was trimming it to get the hair out of my mouth. Fine enough, but then he started trimming the whole damn thing and I ended up with a $%^ing regular-ass mustache. Once he started trimming it, what could I do? Once he’s started trimming it, he can’t very well stop. My business-class mustache is so very far away from the«fun» mustache that I had been going for. Who the hell wants a business mustache? The haircut ended up looking all right but I am so, so far away from what I went in there for. I will absolutely not be back. If you go there, you’d better be clear in absolutely no uncertain terms what it is you want or you’ll be sorry. I guess part of that is on me. But the one thing I did tell him that I wanted, and that he didn’t have to touch, he absolutely took away. I am so pissed.

I’ve been to this salon twice now, and Charles knows how to take care of his clients. This salon is very humble, but perfect if you’re looking for real people and remarkable styles for a modest price.

Called ~5 min ahead today and Paul said to come on in. The salon is simple and straight forward, and Paul took care of me right away. He asked me what I like and took the time to understand what I was looking for. In the ~40 min Paul took to cut my hair, Paul told me EVERYTHING he was doing, step by step, and why he was doing it! Wow. He spent about 7 minutes alone just sculpting my sideburns, and when he brought out the clipper, he must have used 4 different attachments. He was an artist, using all the tools at his disposal(and he takes good care of them too: he kept lubing his clippers). After the cut, he shampooed me: no body-melting scalp and neck massage like you get at some higher priced places, but hey, for $ 25 for a mens cut(salon schedule price: no discounts etc), I don’t think you can do better than that in Chicago. Pros: $ 25 is an incredible value; Paul was great and took the time and care I wanted. Cons: None for what I paid!

I’ve gotten some of my best haircuts here! Salon 64 is always very accommodating and has been willing to make appointments for me on short notice multiple times. I have long, thick hair and they always spend extra time deep conditioning and blowing it out. Even though it’s a small, relatively inexpensive salon I always end up getting a star treatment. I moved from Edgewater to Roscoe Village last year, but I keep going back just to get my haircut. This place is too good to let go!

I walked in off the street following a BAD experience at another salon(review forthcoming) and David was like an angel from Heaven greeting me with a smile. He was finishing another client and said he could fit me in if I could wait 15 mins… and I am SO glad I did. The experience was terrific. David took his time to listen to me about what I wanted and gave me great suggestions. The whole team there seems amazing. Very laid back while being professional and also fun. I will definitely go back for a cut and schedule a color, too. Highly recommend!

I had a great haircut and color from stylist Ingred a couple of weeks ago. She really took a lot of time with me and made certain that my hair was just perfect, and that I was satisfied with my service. I was! She also recommended some good products for my hair. I will definitely be back!

I was becoming frustrated with my normal hair guy in Boystown and wanted /needed a haircut. Reviews led me to this place and truth be told, I have become a fan. Walking in, it isn’t overwhelming and it certainly isn’t all the glam and glitter of other places. But it is a good place to go to get a great haircut at a very reasonable price. If you want pomp and circumstance, then stay away. But, if you want a stylist who takes hims time, understands what you want and works towards that end, make your appointment now or stop in. Their hours are great, the location is easy to get to, parking, train or bus are all within reach and you walk out looking like it was done correctly and with care. WOOF!

I found this place walking around the neighborhood one day. The Pride flag sticker in the window caught my eye. :) I made my first appointment with Brent and haven’t gone anywhere else since! Brent is so much fun. He always makes me smile, and I really have a great time while I’m in the chair. Oh and yeah, he gives GREAT haircuts too. I have this little sharpee thing going on in the back of my head. He meticulously cuts it. I’ve never had anyone focus on the little details like that before. Brent is also great with my beard too. I’m always so scared to have a new stylist or barber work on it, but he does a great job too. All my co-workers comment on my cuts from him(which they never did in the past). For $ 25, you really can’t beat it. Salon 64 is a great little neighborhood place, and Brent is awesome! Definitely give him a shot.

My sister has been going to this salon for about a year and getting her hair cut by Charles(the owner). She wears a very low natural, so not surprisingly, her hair is cut very well. On one occassion, I accompanied her and saw that there was now an African-American woman working there who does natural hair(Dionna). I made an appt for a blowout and trim. The only bad part was that she had a medical emergency and my appt had to be changed to later that day, but she did bring pics as proof and had tried to call me for several hours before my appt. Otherwise she was very prompt and professional. This was the first time I’ve gotten my natural hair done and felt that the person TRULY knew how to handle natural hair. She detangled and conditioned my hair properly so that she was not snapping and snatching out hair when she blew it dry. She gave me a nice trim and shape and it was only $ 35 and I was only there for about an hour(sistas know this is a MIRACLE). Needless to say, I’ll be back at my 6 month time for another trim.

I moved to Chicago 2 years ago and found this place on Unilocal.Since then I have always gone to Salon 64. I get the best haircuts at this place and am never disappointed. I tell all my friends if they want a good cut to go here.

After moving to Chicago I desperately needed a haircut but had no reccomendations or people to ask for advice. Walking in to a salon blind is very frightening… but I got lucky! The salon is small, clean and no frills(as I like it). There is no tier system of stylists, no enamel-boosting diamond, salt-water and passion fruit essence nail bath(and no $ 60 men’s hair cut). Just a nice spot with very experienced staff and good products for sale. Ernersto was my stylist, and he gave me one of the best cuts I’ve had in a long time! I’ve found my new salon!

A friend recommended me here to get my haircut by a woman named Blanca. Despite its being all the way up at Bryn Mawr, a long bus or train ride from my Lakeview digs, I was already impressed enough by my friend’s haircut to warrant trying her out. To be honest I hadn’t even been up to this area before, and I was surprised to find such a charming little neighborhood at this far north area of Chicago. Like all the streets where the Red Line stops off, restaurants, coffee shops and the like all dot the way from the lake westward. The salon was situated right on Bryn Mawr next to a Starbucks. Inside the only person was Blanca, sweeping up the last customer’s hair. Since the shop was completely empty, it lacked the usual bustle of a salon, which didn’t bother me one bit. The space was small, but with large open windows and a clean wood floor, it was inviting and ample. But anyway, who cares about the space? The haircut is what we care about here. And it was nothing short of great. She listened to what I wanted and hit it almost smack on the nail. I also knew she had to be done pretty quickly as she had squeezed me in at the end of her shift, but she still seemed to take her time and not rush through it. We had a really great talk as well, which I love in a hairdresser. It always sucks when the person cutting your hair can’t carry on a simple conversation. Then you just have to kind of sit there and zen out. The best part was the price. Only $ 25 for a professional, salon haircut. Most places will try to charge you $ 35 or more for the same or worse job. I would recommend this place for men who have longer hair and need the styling expertise one can’t really find at a simple barbershop.
