This is a scary experience just for groceries… I’ll pass on crackheads in the parking lot weirding me out just to get some bread.

i always call them food for less by mistake like in my treasure island review i was talking about save a lot. i fuks with save a lot yes it is no frills, yes the corner where it is located is a little sketchy but like they say dont start none wont be none. its kinda like an aldi but way better. i get all my basics from here, milk, eggs, butter, oj, bread. they have a nice selection of canned goods and a large variety of pastas including many whole wheat varieties. the only«meat» i buy from them are turkey necks the selection of meat is severely limited so i jus keep it moving pass them. they have a decent frozen section. you need a quarter for the shopping carts which is returned when you put it back, and i usually recycle my nice treasure island bags because they dont give you bags bring your own or pay and you bag your own food. like their little song says that will surely be stuck in your head my dollar goes far at save a lot

«Save-A-Lot» is a nationwide chain of discount grocery stores. It appears that there are 7 locations in the city of Chicago, mostly on the south and west sides. You can get an absurd amount of food for very cheap prices at Save-A-Lot. The total is probably going to be about half what you would pay for equivalent items at most grocery stores. They do not have a wide selection of brands, the reason being that many items are their own generics. However, if the only difference between two products is the box, and one costs only half as much, it’s arguably foolish to pay twice as much for the same thing. Regarding the previous reviewers theory that more people don’t shop there because they are«freaked out by the neighborhood», that is basically a more polite way of saying«because they are afraid of black people». I was asked, twice, if I am the manager of the store by customers who approached me. First time I said, «No, I don’t work here…», next time I smiled and said«You’re the second person to ask me that». The guy said, «Well, because you’re the only white man in the store!», as if the logic is obvious. So, there is indeed a kind of racial sub-text to that situation: assumption that a well-dressed white man is probably«The Man». There is no such thing as a «black neighborhood» or a «white neighborhood», we are all Americans and everyone has an equal right to appear in any public place. There is also no reason not to shop at Save-A-Lot. It’s big, clean, bright, extremely well-organized, and you can«save a lot» by getting something of the same or better quality for a lower price.
