I caught a production of «Aces,» a new play that recently opened at the Signal Ensemble Theatre. The play, about six dealers set in a casino in 1975, was enjoyable(I especially got a kick out of the fact that my ticket stub was a casino chip and the program was a giant playing card). It’s definitely not the best play I’ve seen, in that while all the characters were trying to be meaningful, it actually came across that none of them were in fact, meaningful. The theater, which is located on a residential street just west of Ravenswood, is small, with seating for approximately 50. If you’re a fan of small theater, you will like being so close to the action. Their mission is truly a collaborative effort between the actors, directors and stage crew and their productions are truly diverse. Past productions include«Waiting for Godot,» «Six Degrees of Separation,» and«The Ballad of the Sad Café.» Now I’m no expert: coughNickMcough, but this is certainly the little theater that could. Close to public transportation and many restaurants and bars. Go see a play and make a night of it.
