Closed on a Wednesday afternoon when they say they’d be open. Truly disappointed as I wanted to try their Trinidad Roti … bummer

I was a vegetarian for 3 years, until grad school destroyed my will to plan any meals ever. My life is now a lot simpler, so I’ve been contemplating«going veg» again. The only problem is that I live on the far South side, and I freakin love going out to eat. The vegetarian options down here are limited. So I was excited to try Sistah’s after seeing the fabulous Unilocal reviews. We ordered the enchiladas and the African marsala. The good news is that it was absolutely delicious. The sides, the entrees, the soups: all great. The bad news is… everything else. We thought our food would take 20 minutes tops. Over an hour later, our food came out. Finally. During this ginormous wait, no one came out to apologize or inform us of any approximate wait time. No one even offered some soup(which comes with the meal) to tide us over. When we got it, we were sick of waiting awkwardly at the little tables, and my boyfriend asked for it to go. The guy working seemed annoyed at that request. Hm. The food was delicious, so maybe next time I’ll call ahead an hour before I think I’ll be hungry.

I came here after I left my Dr. Appointment. I can’t have beef or pork so I decided to go hardcore and do vegan. Yea, I know that’s impossible for your hardcore meat eaters, but this place got serious flavor. I adore their chipotle sauce and wish they bottle that stuff and sell it by its self. I will be coming here for my vegan fix. Oh and by the way, as I waited on my food, I had great talk with the young lady who is a cashier. She is the reason for the five star review(and that sauce).

Sistah’s is off the chain!!! People do not allow your narrow mind to block you from this culinary delight! This restaurant shows that you do not need to consume all of those nasty foods to have a great meal. I have tried their roti sandwiches, the salads, the tacos, the panini and the pizza; I am working my way around the menu. Please support this wonderful establish so that they may hire more ppl to improve the speed of service :)

First, glad to have more vegan/vegetarian options on the Southside. Sistah’s has solid food. Would have missed it had I been driving any faster, but the signage advertising«roti» caught my eye. The only place I find Roti is in Barbados. So yes, plan to wait for the food-but it was worth it. Ordered greens and cornbread for my fiancé and we enjoyed every bite. I’ll be back…

I have been following Dr. Joel Fuhrman’s Eat to Live plan and it is great. Since I now actually crave vegan food, I was delighted to find a place in my neighborhood that serves excellent food. Sistah’s is the place! It takes time to get the food but it is always fresh and delicious. Call and ask what’s available, order your meal, and pick it up. I had the Lasagna dinner today; great taste, great price! Also, I am experiencing tasty vegan dishes at Sistah’s I can recreate at home!

I wasn’t blown away by the dining experience, but the food was excellent and that’s the most important thing. This restaurant is easy to miss when driving and the décor is … missing. The restaurant lacks a visual identity, and I hope this is something that will change as the young restaurant grows. Again, the food was terrific and that is why I will continue going to Sistah’s. My wife and I shared the Roti sandwhich, Seitan Bites, a soup with cornbread, and a couple of drinks. The price was less than $ 20, which I thought was reasonable. I would recommend all three items, especially the Seitan Bites. The portions were generous, but the BBQ sauce wasn’t. Ask for extra BBQ sauce. I’m excited to go back and try more items on the menu. Curious to try its tacos and pizza. Also, it’s nice to have a new place on the South Side. I won’t be going to Soul Veg after they expressed their homphobic beliefs( ).

Downloaded the Happy Cow app and discovered this wonderful vegan gem on the southside! They have kid-friendly options that you don’t find at other vegan spots — my daughter was afraid to touch anything from Yah’s, Soul Veg and Karyn’s, but loved her hot dog and fries here. Delicious food(big fan of the tacos and quesadillas) but slooooooow. Call ahead to avoid the wait!

The restaurant is hit and miss, but has now become more hits! My fav dishes are the tacos, lentil soup and country fried steak… oh and the sweet potato tart. The services has started to become a bit slower, so I have learned to call in my order first or expect to wait 20 minutes or more. Everyone is very friendly and I the place is nice and quiet, makes for a very relaxing meal. Food is of excellent quality and the prices are very reasonable. I was glad to see they added brunch, with the best grits I have every had. However the biscuits are not very tasty and the breakfast potatoes are too tomatoy(yeah that’s a word). It’s great to see a vegan place in the are and now I don’t have to keep traveling to 75th for soul veg!

Food was good, but the customer service is inexcusable. As Phyllis said, the employees yell and curse at each other all the time. I’ve been 3 times and that has happened 2 of the 3 times. I won’t go back there again because of it. Not only that, they take your money with an attitude after you sit there and wait 20 – 40 minutes! I’ll just have to make the trek over to Soul Vegetarian. I refuse to support such a business.

Don’t go expecting fine dining. In fact just expect some veggie food and not much more. Ate there and had a fine lunch. It’s just food.

I have been here one time, but I am looking forward to going back. I think this is a family-owned restaurant and the young man at the register was courteous and very knowledgeable about the menu. The Dinner was really good and the wait time was minimal. My only complaint was that I drove past it twice because I couldn’t see the sign out front.

I finally was able to stop at Sistah’s today for lunch. This place is quite amazing. I had the seitan bites. They were perfectly delicious and the BBQ sauce was really good, too. The soup of the day was chili and ordered that as well. I can never turn down vegan chili and I am so happy at my choice. Not only was the spice just right with the chili, but the corn bread that came with it was the best vegan corn bread I have ever had. I don’t know exactly how they did it, but it’s not dry like most vegan corn bread. I’m absolutely going back to try the rest of the menu, but you can be sure I will be getting more of that corn bread again! Please go there often. You won’t be disappointed and it can keep a great vegan restaurant open in area where meat free options are scarce!

I really enjoyed Sistah’s Vegan. This was one of my first experiences with vegan and it was a great intro. I ordered the spinach quesadillas and enchiladas and my husband ordered the lasagna and the burger. All was very good, did not lack for favor or portion size. They need a better sign cause it is easy to miss it but you won’t want to. Great addition to the Beverly Area.

This hands down is the best vegan soulful restaurant I have ever been to. I love this place. I will try EVERYTHING on the menu within the next few weeks :) The bbq seiten came with corn on the cob, salad, potato salad. It was simply delicious!!! Bookmark this place and GO, several times :) You can dine in or carry out~

Sad face. I wanted to come on Unilocal, raving about Sistah’s, and tossing out the five stars like they were going out of style. Sadly, however, I cannot do so. And let me tell you… it bums me out. :( G o o d: The price(fair and reasonable for the extremely generous portions) The location(ever since the closer Veggie Bite closed, I’ve been vying for a new vegan joint around these parts) B a d: Hard to spot(no, really… you’ll miss it if you’re not really, REALLY watching) Selection(very limited, but hopefully they’ll expand the menu over time) Nuggets(quite possibly the worst I’ve ever tasted – ever – and I’ve tasted more than my fair share in this lifetime, I’m sure) It is a little sparse on the inside, but I don’t think that’s a negative. I will give it another chance, but for now… the two stars come mainly from my deep-seeded desire to applaud this restaurant’s concept in its location. But that’s it. If I had to tell you to hit or skip it at this point in time, skipping it is the way to go. Sad face, again. Sad face.

Sistah’s Vegan was quite the pleasant surprise. I have been to some good restaurants in Chicagoland, but this definitely wins the battle for taste! I ordered the lasagna, and was ecstatic to find that their vegan iteration actually tasted on par with traditional lasagnas, and proved to be quite the flavorful dinner. The portions are large, the price was very fair, and the service was great. The owner dropped in towards the end of my meal and was very kind and talkative. She has a background in nutrition and has sought out on a quest to make quality vegan food without sacrificing traditional tastes. In this, she and her husband have succeeded. This was truly the first time that I’ve had vegan food that has the texture and taste to match that of traditionally prepared foods. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone, yes anyone — even those that shy away from vegetarian/vegan foods because of their usual ‘bland’ taste. The restaurant is a bit more difficult to spot as it almost resembles a laundromat from the outside. Not the most intimate atmosphere for eating in, but would be fabulous for take out. The only issue I raise with Sistah’s is that, even when eating in, all food is served in styrofoam containers with plastic utensils. This is likely to reduce cost and labor on dishwashing, but could be accomplished using a more renewable and environmentally friendly solution. Enjoy the food, and try to chat with the owner if you can catch her — highly educated, lovely individual!

If you want to see the pics you can check out my profile to see where I hide them. Worth a look. Sista’s Vegan, Fast Food reaches new heights, Chicago, Il It’s only been open for a couple of months and the menu is simple and small but the food is amazing. I made a quick pit stop here and grabbed a few things to go and was very impressed. The restaurant itself is a storefront. Rather poorly marked with a sign taped in the window. I was glad I saw this place during the day because I don’t know if I’d have noticed it with the well marked soul food place right next door. There’s also a pretty harsh sign on the door, «EFFECTIVEIMMEDIATELYHOURSAREASFOLLOWS: … «Funny kind of pronouncement but what the important thing is that the place doesn’t open until 4PM. So no lunch? Spartan doesn’t begin to describe the décor. It’s bare bones functional with a few tables in front. Down the hall is the kitchen. I thought there might have been a dining room but the only room is going to become a store. There’s a hugh health food marked a few blocks down 95th so I’m not sure what they’re going to be selling. Dinner specials are $ 8.95. That’s the most expensive thing on the menu. You have to love that. I didn’t see any online menus so here are a few shots of the menu on the front counter. Since I had to be mobile while eating I couldn’t order the dinners. Few choices but they hit the 4 corners of the world. Chowing down with a car seat as my table. There were 4 pieces when I opened the container but by the time I got out the camera … This was one of the best quesadillas I’ve ever had. The cheese and spinach were seasoned just right and tasted fantastic and the tortilla had a nice crunch. The guac was fine and the chipotle dipping sauce had a rich delicious flavor. Yes the carrots and celery were measly but the seitan, even with all this condensation in the box, were fantastic. Just the right amount of breading and the consistency was just where it’s supposed to be for a bite of seitan. The two dipping sauces, bbq(KC sweet) and vegan ranch(OK), went well for these pseudo wings. The young man in the store told me they made the burgers in-house but it looked so perfect. I need to talk to the chef because this might have been one of the best renditions of a burger I have eaten. As a matter of fact it scared me that for the first few chews I thought this was really a Big Mac. Sista’s is what I think of when I think of the next wave of a fast food restaurant. It needs just a tad of warmth in the table area and lighting and for goodness sake please put up a sign so people can find you! I’d love to go back here with a «sharer» and order tons of stuff. I think this is a wave of the future. Also, lets tap the lunch crowd. I do hope this place makes it!
