Soapy’s Place

Can someone help me here — is this business open or not? An article states that it was slated to be torn down several months ago. I tried to call the business and the phone rang, but no one answered. I don’t know of other ways to get in touch with Unilocal or the business? I won’t have time to stop by this weekend, but I wanted to know if this place is still around.

I live right next door to this place so it’s nice and convenient for me, however I’ve had so many problems with this place. They have some pretty old machines and sometimes after your wash is done, you have to hit the washer for the light to turn off and the door to unlock. I only learned this after waiting about a half hour longer than I needed to and the guy who sells bootleg DVDs showing me. Oh yeah, in addition to laundry, you can sometimes buy sketchy DVDs on site… perfect.
Last week I was in here and the machine hadn’t fully closed after I put in my quarters, I asked the owner about it and he said there was nothing he could do, so I was out $ 2.50. That’s terrible.
I think the worst part of this place is that there are always a ton of children in here. I have nothing against children, but they’re always running around and screaming, people use this place as a child care, it’s ridiculous. Was just in there putting a load of whites in and I was pelted by 3 bouncy balls and smacked into by a horde of kids. Not happy.

Love Soapy’s. Friendly staff and I’ve pretty much never had to wait for a machine. Most of the machines are pretty old but they work well and they are kept pretty clean inside. Washing is decently priced too starting at $ 1.25 for the smallest washers and $ 3.50 for the 50lbs washers. The dryers work well, although some work better than others (be sure to check for gum inside before you use them – had a bad experience with that once). They are technically open until 11pm 7 days a week (last wash is at 9pm) but they tend to close a little early. They rarely turn away a late customer however. Plus there’s parking.

This place is good because it’s never too busy. The machines are a little old. The bathroom is a little gross (and I don’t know why it has a condom dispenser?). The machines are in need of being cleaned, especially the space where the detergent and softener go.
