Soy Organic Market is closing. The sign in the window read, in Spanish, «We are going. Liquidation Sale.» I’m sad to see them close.

Soy Organic is a cute little store with organic bread, rice, spices, coffee, and even YERBAMATE($ 4 for a huge bag – I haven’t been able to find it outside of Latin America). While the there isn’t a huge variety of products, it’s a great place for those interested in becoming more organic/green. If I wouldn’t have met the sweet worker at the Pilsen Farmer’s Market, I wouldn’t have ever found this place.

Organic for all the right reasons. Small, and doesn’t carry everything one might need, but worth a trip every couple of weeks or so. Awesome owner!

Soy Organic is definitely a labor of love. Soy Organic carries all of my personal staples, rice milk, bragg liquid aminos, vegetable protein, and dry goods. They also carry seasonal items, like wild onions, which were sooo good. Sonia, the owner, is very caring and open to suggestions. They will order the food you want them to carry and I’d rather shell out to Soy Organic than to Whole Foods for sure.

This place is really amazing to see. It’s a perfect fusion of the two worlds I have grown to call my own. Coming from South Chicago and moving up north to be exposed to this organic world. This place makes me feel comfortable in such an interesting way that I haven’t quite experienced before. It doesn’t hurt that the sisters that run it are exceedingly beautiful. As well as finding quality organic products in my new neighborhood right next to the Flaming Hot Cheetos! What I really want to know though; can I get a dimes worth of organic hot sauce on my Krunchers?

Soy is a real find! Their unsuspecting storefront in the middle of a residential area keeps them a little hidden(not to mention parking is a little hard to come by), but it seems to be changing quickly. They carry a lot of local grown and made items(like tofu, eggs, etc.) and have a selection of higher quality goods from all over. I am probably not the first person to go in there and buy out all of their SWAD curries(which I use to drive up to Devon to buy!). The owner is as nice as could be and very involved in the community, something that seems harder and harder to come by/I love that there is an independent organic market that I can go to in my neighborhood and despite the limited selection people should support it as much as possible!

I loved this place! good everything and friendly people eager to help. most of the produce was very fresh and at low prices. nice and clean(for a small market) and good selection. I will be there often.

I am giving Soy Organic 5 stars not because I was blown away at the enormity of the store(it’s a small neighborhood market) but because of the mere fact that it exists in this neighborhood. I think it is incredibly important to have organic, sustainable products available in every area and Soy Organic stands alone in Pilsen.(as far as I am aware). The bright colors of the buildings exterior and the friendly people inside are incredibly welcoming. They encourage you to bring your own bags(as any leaning-green store should) but the emphasis on organic food and protecting the environment is met without pretension at Soy Organic. Please support this place– I hope more small local shops boasting organic fare begin to pop up in more of Chicago’s neighborhoods and nation-wide. The woman working mentioned that they have only been open for a year and are looking to get in more products shortly. Some brands that they carry are as follows: Eden Organic Walnut Acres Organic Boca(organic variety) Amy’s Ezekial(sprouted breads) etc. They also have a great bulk section in the back.

This place is great. Let me count the ways: It’s organic and all that jazz. It operates with the progressive community around Pilsen very nicely, and makes sure to wear its politics on its sleeve. It’s locally owned and operated, and by Mexican-American folks who’ve been in the neighborhood for decades. It isn’t Whole(Paycheck) Foods or Traitor Joes. They accept Link cards, bringing healthy, organic, and relatively ethical consumption to people who often can’t afford it. They’re just so darned swell.

I went to Soy Organic for the first time when I was considering moving into an apartment down the street. I was so excited when I saw that there was a local organic market that I had to check it out. I just moved to Pilsen this week and can’t wait to give this little shop as much of my business as possible! When I walked in I was delighted to see a totally homegrown small business with shelves in the middle of the room stacked with some products I recognized and some that were new to me. I also saw some products that didn’t quite look organic, but a conversation with the owner’s brother cleared things up. I guess when they first opened the store the local patrons had a difficult time understanding why a local market wouldn’t carry Coca-Cola. In order to give people a reason to come back and keep shopping they added some not as organic items and are slowly making their organic mark on the community. It’s a wonderful place with homemade Tamarind and Hibiscus juices. The owner often sits outside with her baby and talks to people as they walk by. I definitely recommend that you stop by for a healthy drink and a chat at the very least.
