Steak Hoagy Sweet & More

Ok, if you’re from Chicago you know the hype over Home of the Hoagy and are also familiar with the 2 hour wait. With Steak Sweet there is no line and the food tastes just as delicious! I will definitely be back and will definitely try everything at least once!

When I moved to the east side of chicago with no car ir broke my heart because I could no longer make those bi-​weekly trips to Home of the Hoagy. People often would compare & refer me to Taurus’ which although its delicious it just doesn’t compare. I tried Steak Sweet Hoagy for the 1^st time yesterday and was blown away! Although its not Home of the Hoagy it’s as close as the Eastside will ever come. The steak sweet sandwich and fries are wonderful! Not to mention their special Tuesday where u get a sandwich, fries and a pop all for $ 4. I am smitten! The only issue I had was the long wait

The 10″ steak sweet is HUGE! Enough for two people… Or for you to eat half now and half later (at least, that’s what I did!) The sandwich is filled to the brim with yummy steak and the sweet, tomato based sauce reminds you of Sloppy Joe sauce. A definite winner!
Obviously if you’re patronizing this neighborhood for food, you’re not new and know what to expect. I actually got pulled over for having a headlight out, on my way to pick up my food. But a missing headlight at 12:30am on 79^th and Cottage is definitely my bad, I know better, no reflection on the quality of food at the restaurant whatsoever!

The Steak Sandwiches are good, I would definitely go back and probably get a Turkey sandwich. The fries were good too and the fries were drenched in sauce like they are supposed to be. The only drawback was the customer service but I was expecting that. If in the area I wouldn’t mind getting a Hoagy!

The steaks are good, I always order extra cheese and sauce. Not exactly the same as home of the hoagy but very close. I tried a hoagy today, it was very average, the bread was store bought Turano bread that you buy at the deli at a jewel. It was not worth it, and a little dry. The fries at either cooked too hard or not cooked enough. Worth it for the steak and fries.

This place is TERRIBLE! I JUST left! I stopped there since it was in the neighborhood and closer than Taurus for a steak sub. Why did I do that? Let’s see the problems– this place is over priced, long wait time, ghetto employees, and food was terrible! I paid 7 bucks for a measly «famous sweet steak» which reaked the smell of Open Pit BBQ sauce :(the taste of the meat was terrible to where I cant describe it. The the green sweet peppers that are normally blended were sitting on top cold and hard. I wasted 20 minutes waiting with no long lines and 7 bucks because this sandwich was not even edible! The absolute worst! I am so glad my friend didnt have a chance to answer when I was calling to see if they wanted something. Open Pit though? Is that what you calll sweet? I would have taken Sweet Baby Rays, but who put Open Pit on anything but ribs? Ewww… I should have known it would be a bad experience when they allowed this woman to bring her grown (not arm dog) into the place. Its obvious she is a regular! Smh! Anyway, because my sandwich went straight to the trash, now I will be hungry until I cam get to Taurus for a much cheaper and better tasting steak sandwich

I have been going there since it first opened. The food is always good with generous portions. I am very big on customer service. All the ladies who work there are excellent and exceeds my expectations. I had an unfortunate mishap on the way in there tonight. Yes ladies, the flip flop wearers nightmare, after driving all the way from Hyde Park as I was getting out of the car it happened with no extra shoes to put on and certainly I was not walking barefooted. I called to cancel my order and explained what happened needless to say I thought it was a done deal and wasted trip. All I can say is me and my family are quite full now! Unfortunately I forgot the ladies name but I never forget to thank people, especially those who go above and beyond! I am totally satisfied with the service and food and I always recommend this place.

For those who were Home Of The Hoagy fans, the sign boasts the fact that you won’t have to wait in long line! Obviously the owners were fans as well. The steak sandwich is spot on! Unlike HOTH, you don’t get a choice of peppers but the sauce has the taste of the sweet pepper with a nice amount of heat. They have different sizes so I got the small sandwich. It was bursting at the seams with meat and it WAS a meal.
The only knock I have (hence 4 stars) is that the fries didn’t seem to be fully cooked and they put too much «sauce» on the fries. I ended up tossing them out. I don’t need to eat fries anyway…

Love it… Steak Hoagy was juicy, and the fries are to die for… Will be back for more…

I really wanted this to be at least half as as good as home of the hoagy… it isnt… the sauce isn’t bad… But… there wasn’t enough on sandwich nor fries. The steak is of poor quality. I spit out gristle and saw tons of stringy tendons. Meat had no seasoning, not even a sprinkle of salt, tasted boiled. Lack of cheese. Just bad.
Also, customer service, the cashier was switching positions with another worker and was rude. The next cashier seemed annoyed with simple questions, hello it’s a new spot (although service was relatively fast 6 min)
The biggest complaint about home of the hoagy is its customer service. If someone is trying to steal their success at least have better service… H.o.H food is worth the less than stellar service. Go ahead and make the trip to 111^th

I can literally eat there everyday. The pistachio ice cream is to die for! The customer service can be a little better but the food makes up for that. It’s super convenient and it stays open late for my late shifts at work. A quick grab before I turn in. My boyfriend request it every single night. But I never get tired of it. The sweet sauce is really good. They add just enough oil.
