Sushi luxe is very contemporary as you enter! However, as we looked at the menu we noticed the cost was a bit pricey. Honestly, I’ve had better sushi for fraction of the cost. Everything was just mediocre. I mean the ambience and décor is impressive with their built in tv mirror in the washroom, but the food speaks for itself. The salmon teriyaki bento box wasn’t even satisfying. And the green tea ice cream wasn’t great either. I was hoping it would be… But no! Will I come back? Probably not.

THISPLACEISAMAZING! It has tasty Sushi for reasonable prices. There is only a 2 or $ 3 un-corking fee and a GREAT liquor store across the street! A super secret option that you can order that is both cheap and a lot of variety.(Under combinations the Sushi & Shumai $ 25) Order an appetizer and a bottle of wine and you’re getting out of there for about $ 40. There are T.V. screens in the mirrors in the bathroom. And the service has always been pretty good when I’ve been there(although if this place gets any more popular they will need to staff more than 2 people at a time). I eat here often and I will definitely eat here again.

Don’t bother. Too many other sushi restaurants that are good It literally so long for one roll to arrive that I was convinced that they just forgot about it. Completely empty and it still took eternity to get our food. I could only imaging if there were other diners. Considered sending the tune roll back because it was not fresh. Give it a pass

I’ve never done a Unilocal Review before, I felt the need to after attending this restaurant. As someone said previously, if you have 2 hours to spare to receive ok sushi, this is the place to go. Our waitress wouldn’t visit our table unless the other waitress went and got her, our hot sake was room temperature, our dumplings were almost cold, but the sushi rolls weren’t bad. Of course, when we went to pay, they were Johnny on the Spot. I live in Andersonville and I love being a patron to local joints, but I will not be coming back to Sushi Luxe any time soon.

If you have 2.5 hours to wait for your mediocre sushi to be brought to, by all means, this is your place. Everyone else, skip this one. Slowest sushi ever. And not cheap. There’s better out there.

Can I give zero stars? Why is that not an option?! Because ZERO is exactly what this restaurant delivered to me. I just ordered food from them via grubhub, oh about 2 hours ago, and they haven’t delivered yet. I tried calling LITERALLY over 50 times and all I get is a stupid busy signal. I tried the phone number listed on google AND on grubhub, but nada. Oh, and once, I didn’t get a busy signal — I got the dial-up modem tone! WTF?! Who uses a phone modem?! Is it 1998!!! Now, the inside of my stomach is starting to eat itself because I am so freaking hungry, and I am ANNOYED that a restaurant would list themselves on grubhub when they have NODELIVERYSERVICE! EPICSUCK!!!

I’m basically playing«Musical Andersonville Restaurants» at this point. I’ve been bouncing around the past few weeks checking out all the local eateries. Woke up yesterday and had a craving for sushi. So I called up a friend and made plans to meet at Sushi Luxe at 8PM. I saw it was noted that the restaurant was BYOB so I called ahead and was told there’s a $ 2 charge per glass with your own wine. $ 2? No big deal. I was really into the atmosphere and décor of Sushi Luxe. Very urban, steel, low lighting, hardwood floors, my type of place. We cracked open the wine and ordered edamame and these funky, savory pickle things. I have no idea what they were called, I just saw«assortment of pickles» and point at it. Glad I did! Time for the main course. I went with three rolls: tofu tempura, sweet potato, and the«Pop Eye» which featured cucumber, spinach, and avocado. All rolls were exceptional! I was especially impressed with the Pop Eye and tofu. Small, easy to eat pieces with a nice crunch. Also, fairly affordable. I did glance over at another table and saw a sushi roll on fire. That scared me so I stayed simple. Cool place, solid service, and excellent food. Walked out paying under $ 20 for a whole lot of food. Check it out!

What does every guy want for his b-day… to go downtown*… you know, for fresh fish! Sushi Lux has the freshest, succulent, tender, most juicy fish I’ve had the pleasure of having in my mouth. I always say give me the pink stuff or I like it raw**!! I don’t mind it messy and I’m very good with my hands, that is if the chop sticks don’t work out. They really know what they are doing here! It all starts with the service(which was excellent from start to finish), then the setting is optimal for pleasure(mood lighting and comfortability), but the presentation really sets the mood(you want to dive right in, but I promise you it will be even better if you just pull back a little and enjoy the view. You can touch a little, just for a tease.). I recommend giving yourself plenty of time, make a night of it, something this good deserve to go all night long. I promise you it will be worth it. I will surely come again for the following. I’m also not going to tell you what is in them, I’m big into surprises! Dynamite roll Kani roll Spicy Sake Crunch Ika Real California Boston Philadelphia Smoked Sake Enjoy, I know I did! *That’s downtown Andersonville ** Of course I did not say that to the waitress and no, I don’t REALLY say those kinds of things. Plus running into Jessica C. before dinner was very cool as well. Just a note: I blame the natural aphrodisiac and the sake for this review!

My friend and my first choice for dinner was Hopleaf down the street, but it was packed with an hour-long wait so we decided to see what else Andersonville had to offer. Just down Clark Street, we found this place, which, compared to Hopleaf, was barren. The hostess sat us straight away. The sushi was fantastic, and I thought the pot stickers were amazing, which is odd given that they tend to be similar from place to place. I really liked these. The martini I ordered came in a martini glass with a 14– to 18-inch stem. Great presentation! Love those glasses. MEN’S ROOM On the door of the bathrooms, the sex indicators are«First Lady» and«President.» A little sexist, sure. What happens when there’s a woman in the White House? I am probably jumping to conclusions. It’s not as if changing them around to read«President» and«The First Husband» would be that difficult. After a moment, I decided that«Prime Minister» and«The Prime Minister’s Wife» should be the preferred labels. If they’re serving Japanese cuisine, why not go for accuracy? I got inside the men’s room and was not surprised to see the incense-like aroma sticks in the jar of fragrant oil. Sushi joints are famous for creating mood in the johns, something I applaud every time. Sushi Luxe even adds two jars of hand soap and a bottle of Glade, in case your spider roll doesn’t agree with your gut and you need to mask the aromatic remnants of the mess you flushed. Effort like this is always welcome. What I didn’t really care for was the TV in the mirror. If not for that, I might have had more of a zen moment in here, a chance to relax and catch my breath. In their defense, the screen was turned to the Food Network so I have to hand it to them there. What I can’t stand are screens in the bathrooms of nice, atmospheric restaurants that show ESPN nonstop. I think men are capable of going a few hours without knowing a score once in a while. At least, I like to think they are.

I’m a sushi fiend. And I love fancy sit down and stay-a-while sushi joints. Unfortunately, this place has created an atmosphere its menu can’t live up to. All the sushi tasted very similar and lacked a lot of flavor, the rice wasn’t prepared correctly so the pieces weren’t rolled tight enough and constantly falling apart, the prices are too high, and the servers are friendly but they don’t provide good service. But once you put a television mirror in your bathroom, how can you ever live up to the hype? I was very disappointed because the environment leads you to anticipate a very comfortable dining experience but it does not deliver. The«Spicy Unagi» tasted the same as the Unagi, the Tempura was terrible and the Super White Tuna was cut wrong. However, the calamari rolls were delicious– and those I would definitely recommend.

Food is good but service is bad and it is super expensive for what it is. They can get a four if they take down the 3 year old christmas lights inside and use spell check on the menu. I mean really they were out of 3 of the five first drink choices people had too. I know this place can do better.

I have been here a ton because I live in the area. A lot of Unilocalers mentioned the service being bad, I’ve never had that problem, but every time I have gone it was never more than a party of two, so maybe larger parties is where they fall off. The food is great, love the bento box, rolls are super awesome and really pretty presentation. I am always stuffed when I leave. I also like the seaweed salad a lot. One thing though, it’s always empty. I’ve never seen more than 10 people in there at a time. It makes it nice when you want to have an intimate dinner, but if I were walking by I probably wouldn’t go in. No people usually means no good. Anyway, I give it a solid four, the sushi is good.

This place gets zero stars for service. ZEROSTARS. The food is good so they get two for that. Bringing out the food piece-meal so nobody can eat together is bad. Forgetting entire items from the order(like a special roll) is worse. Giving me an attitude when I ask a reasonable question about where my food is because it’s been a loooong time and everyone else is eating is terrible. Then charging me an 18% gratuity for embarassingly bad service is unforgivable. There are plenty of decent sushi places in the city and many of them are BYOB and some of those have really good service. So don’t act like you are anything special, Sushi Suxe, because you aren’t.

I’d give this place 3 ½ stars, but can’t give half stars, unfortunately. I went here with a group of about 15 people. The service wasn’t great; however, the food was really, really good! The rolls were huge. The wine was inexpensive. They were having a special — a couple of different bottles for $ 15. Their menu isn’t all online. They have lots of special maki. The sushi chefs were friendly and fun. They even sent our table a few complimentary rolls since we were such a big group. I’d definitely come here again.

My friends and I came here twice for dinner. I enjoyed their tako yaki(fried octopus balls). And they have the most delicious sake but I don’t remember the name of it. It was in a green bottle… I know, it’s not very helpful. Their sushi was very fresh and delicious. Very comparable to the sushi in the Bay Area, which is always a plus in my book. Our waitress, Una, was very helpful and friendly. A couple of my friends were trying to flirt with her, and she took it all in stride. I think we all had a fun time. She recommended the sake to us, by the way. I will definitely be back.

I was in the neighborhood planning on going to a nearby restaurant but it closed at 8:00 pm. I was bummed so my husband and I stumbled across this sushi restaurant. I had no idea it was BYOB because there is a full bar inside. I promptly ordered a Mai Tai and it was fabulous! I was having a rough day and the tasty cocktail made me feel all better :) There were a few specials that night on some rolls I never tried before. We had the Mexican Maki and it was so good! The Mexican Maki had white tuna and a spicy jalapeño sauce, it was delicious! Sushi Luxe also has rice free rolls for those of you on low carb diets. You can indulge in some fine sushi sans rice. I can attest these rolls are fantastic, I had the«well being roll.» It was full of fish and veggies and the roll was huge. I will definitely get that again! Another favorite of mine was the spicy tuna with black rice. I love spicy tuna and it was different with the black rice. Great sushi spot up in Andersonville. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The interior is lounge like with neat lights at the bar with exposed brick and dark hardwood floors. Since it’s BYO, there is a huge liquor store right across the street.

Yes, it’s BYOB. Yes, they also serve liquor. It was definitely confusing, but they cleared it up for us right when we asked. Our original BYOB restaurant choice was«full», so we wandered around Clark St. to look for another place to drink our recently purchased craft brews — Sushi Luxe it is. Relative to my recent review of Butterfly Sushi, I liked Sushi Luxe much better. The restaurant was relatively quiet at 7 p.m., which I enjoy. Very«luxe» décor that I really liked. Dark tones, sleek lines and some cool lights under the bar. Our table was nice and cozy — definitely a good setting for a date or a night out with a few friends. Service was some of the friendliest I’ve experienced in a long time. Our server was really nice, quick and attentive. The owner came around a few times just to see how everything was going, which I enjoyed. Also, the sushi chef came out a few times to deliver food, which I thought was pretty cool. I really enjoyed the sushi. I just had a long rant about mediocre, typical sushi and I thought Luxe was a bit above this. I ordered some«typical» sushi selections like a dragon roll, but they had a different sauce inside that I thought was very tasty. They had really fun presentation and everything was fresh. It must just be that I love sauces — Luxe seemed to do the trick. They also had a really great menu of some cool special rolls. I ordered one that I personally didn’t care for, but it was a pretty cool combo of salmon, mandarin oranges and some hot sauce. Honestly, I have a feeling a person with different taste buds would have loved the roll, I just didn’t prefer the combo. However, I have to give them props for coming up with unique rolls that are pleasing to the palate. All in all, I really liked the food here. My boyfriend really enjoyed his Bento Box and it was HUGE. Tons of selection, good variety and really generous portions. My only complaint was the price. We spent $ 75 w/tip for the two of us and that is pretty insane. I enjoyed our meal, but my special roll was pretty expensive and I can only afford this a few times a year. Plenty of street parking available west of Ashland on Foster and a nice group of bars and shops around to keep you occupied after lunch or dinner.

Interesting. Very interesting. What place that has a liquor license and can make money off of that– uses BYOB as a marketing tactic during the winter months? Well Sushi Luxe does. We wandered in almost out of default as our original restaurant choice was packed and neither of us was in the mood to wait an hour to get a drink. We walk in this place and then notice the BYOB sign on the wall. Really? So my friend makes like a streak across the street to the liquor store to pick up a 6 pack. Finally settled in our seats– I take a look around and spy bottles of vodka on the bar along with Sake. Hmm. .. .that certainly looks like liquor. What gives? So I ask the server if they have a liquor license and she says, «Sure. The BYOB is just to increase business during the slower Winter months». Good for us, bad for Sushi Luxe. Everyone knows that the margins are so much better on drinks than on food. So if you are looking for a deal that is certainly on the consumer’s side– get to Sushi Luxe before they realize that this offer is pretty sweet! We had a variety of rolls including a couple that the server suggested and all were good. Not great but certainly adequate. The rolls came up quickly and the service was attentive. Our bill was only $ 40 for the two of us plus whatever the 6 pack from across the street cost. My favorite part? Sitting by the window and watching the world walk by on this cold night. Funny thing about sitting by the window– everyone who walks by, looks in, EVERYONE! Even saw a familiar face, who stopped, waved and then continued on. And this isn’t even my neighborhood. Gotta love Chicago.

Sushi Luxe– your craptastic service caused me to miss a flight! REALLY! I take no responsibility– the fault is all yours. So despite my better judgment(and yes, contrary to popular opinion, I do have judgment skills, I just prefer to use them in my professional life, not my personal one), I accompanied one of my good friends and his SO for dinner to your establishment. I knew I had a flight at 7AM the next morning, but, we were going for food at 7 pm, not a problem, right? BU-ZZZ– SOWRONG! Speedy, lightning fast drink service. Flash must have been serving us. Before I knew it, I had consumed 2 large Sapporo beers, and my friend and I had split 1 hot Saki. No food. Round 4 of drinks brought our first dish. Soft Shell crab– good, and worth the wait. Between rounds 5&6, we did get another couple dishes. They included the Cool luxe wrap, the combo of Salmon and Yellow tail, and the Chicago Sushi combo. They were good, not great. I think my taste buds were gone due to the Jalapeño sushi and Saki mix, so nothing else tasted for the night. But, the Pomegranate Martini was great! After my friend got his 5th martini, and we finally got our entrée’s we were smashed! What a shock! One of them included the Spicy Lobster something, it was fantastic, but did not absorb the alcohol. The drinks were served at the speed of light, the food, at a snails pace. It was not crowded, and we certainly were not rushed. Sushi Luxe, I also hold you responsible for my bright idea to go next door to Simons– because, we were already drunk, why not continue? Oh, ya, so I missed my flight, we got home after 3, and I finished packing. What did I take to Alaska, land of cold weather, rough terrain? A suitcase full of lingerie and high heels… THANKS A LOT!
