Old school thrift, merchandise turns over a little slowly, prices are generally good. They get interesting pieces of furniture in regularly, be sure to check that out, as well as their cd selection.

This Salvation Army Family store is an epitome of an old-fashioned thrift store. What does that mean? It means you need to dig in hard! South side Chicago Salvation Army thrift stores don’t really look too appealing stylistically, in comparison to the north side locations. They also run a different sale and usually don’t do the $ 0.69 color-tag sale on Saturdays. The south side locations simply run the 50% off color-tag sale. Thus, pay attention to the promotional signage when you come in. Anyways, the austere interior didn’t deter me from searching for«treasures» in my book. Although the vinyl section wasn’t organized in a customer-friendly manner, we were able to find a «Chicago»(the band) and«the Pointer Sisters» vinyls for $ 4.32. Well, hubby failed to confirm the match between the outer sleeve and the record itself. So «the Pointer Sisters» one was, in actuality, a random R&B group that I’ve never heard before. We played it and it was quite alright. I wasn’t too impressed by this Salvation Army thrift store location, but if you happen to be in this area, then stop by and check it out. I think the neighborhood appeared safe enough during the day, but there is ample paid street parking. Otherwise, the CTA63 bus(63rd. St.) passes by if you want to utilize public transportation.

This Salvation Army is not for everyone. If you’re «uncomfortable» with this part of town, by all means stay away & shop more locally. Nothing here to really go out of your way for; I’ve found an unusually high amount of stained clothing and cracked, unwearable shoes here; the quality of the donations in general isn’t that great. It isn’t small, but it isn’t terribly large. And don’t be fooled by the staircase at the side of the store; it isn’t accessible to customers. The best section may be the«leather goods» section(still don’t understand why SA does this); you may find a decent leather jacket, but expect it to be somewhat inflated in price, SA style. All in all, meh.
