Big Biers… I got drunk and started speaking, then singing auf deutsch… let’s keep this one quick. 1 — The steins are huge, you can buy ‘em for $ 20.00 2 — Don’t buy one of you plan on going into ANY other local bar, most won’t let you in. 3 — Beers are pretty standard, Hoffbrau Original is great but, Hefe Weizen is my fave. 4 — Teeny effin’ Weenies! Best $ 9.00 spent on a drunken night, you get a dozen. 5 — German Oompa Oompa band… ’nuff said. 6 — Ski Shots, best to do it with people that are roughly the same height… no spillage. 7 — Contests, there was a beer contest when I was there, who can hold a Stein of beer arm fully extended without spilling or dipping below horizontal. Got 2nd place at 2 mins 11 secs. Ya, I’d go back. Service wasn’t «Great» or anything but, they were pretty busy that night so it’s a little forgivable. You’ve gotta try Teeny Weenies — perfect Bier snackage, especially with a group of friends. No… not everyone will like the Oompa Oompa bands. It DOES add to the Germany feel though. Check it out, it’s worth a look see. Just remember, no Stein if you plan on going to another bar after! SYOY

Stay away from this location! I didn’t write a review after fighting with this place over bogus credit card charges, but the awful experience I had this weekend has prompted me to do so. Whereas the food, band and atmosphere are all good, THESERVICEHEREISTERRIBLE. I decided to give this place another chance, because I was in the Oktoberfest mood and mainly wanted to hear the polka band. After the Fabio look-alike doorman spent a good 20seconds reviewing my ID, my friend and I grabbed a table and waited for the waitress… and waited… and waited. After 5−6min she made eye contact with me, started to walk over, but then turned away and towards the door because a large group was coming in. Choosing to serve the larger group right away instead of us, I went to the bar to order our drinks. When I came back I got a passive aggressive lecture from our waitress about how we should order drinks from her. I explained that we had been waiting a while, but she thought it was a good idea to argue and continue to lecture. When she brought our food out, she decided then would be a good time to ask us to pay. Without ringing it up, she started adding in her head what our totals were and continued to stand there until we gave her money. While I love everything else about this place, I would never go back based on the poor service from the wait staff. I would be willing to check out their other location in Bucktown/Wicker Park.

A very strange bar… I don’t know how I feel about it… I went here one time around Halloween and it was all decorated and that was pretty cool. Other then that… it is not much to write home about.

What the hell is going on here? I’ll try to keep this short cuz I’m angry at myself for even talking the time to write this and I have enough memories I’m trying to repress. It was our third choice after a Cubs game since the others were packed to the mf and loud and he was starving. So I jumped on the grenade and said this cuz it wasn’t too crowded and he’s super hungry and I like German food. It has an über loud dj um why? So we sit on the patio as far away as possible. We order wings(duh, though not German but we’re on Clark St), he gets a burger, I get a Rueben. Now we thought the sandwiches were ala carte. But came with fries. I don’t eat fries. So sent it back with a sub of potato salad with the food runner. He brings it and we have no cutlery or condiments. We also asked for ranch for the wings and got blue cheese. I go to find our absent server who only took our orders and ask him after waiting. He says«Can’t you see I’m busy?!» And glares. Then turns away to loiter inside. Why not say«I’ll be right over.» or «Sure in a moment.» Um we chose this place cuz it was dead. I just widened my eyes and said sorry. Walk back and my partner had told me he informed a passing busser who eventually brought it. The server arrives minutes later and says rudely, «You said you had no silverware and ketchup! I bet they were here the entire time!» Wha-at?! Then he drops the check after being hostile and uninformative and is all nice suddenly. How pandering and desperate. The busser/runner did most of his work. And I believe there’s a quaint custom to be nice to those who pay your tips or put an effort into what you do. It was dead. Where did he decide being snotty and absent was a good career move? My partner still gave him like 35% tip(that surprised me). He felt sorry for the server who was obviously unhappy or overwhelmed by his 3 tables. Also, the food is a B– and not authentic at all.

Uberstein has probably the best pretzels I’ve ever had. Seriously. When I got it, it was nice and hot, straight out of the oven. Greasy with just the perfect amount of butter, with a sprinkling of salt and a side of Bier cheese that is absolutely delish. I actually came here because my co-worker told me it was an Oregon Ducks bar. Seeing as my dad was in town, and is a hard core Ducks fan, we came here to watch the Ducks vs. Huskies game. What was nice was that it wasn’t overly crowded, even for a college game night, and I think that’s partly because there likely aren’t tons of Ducks fans in Chicago, but the ones that exist are here cheering them on, which makes it even more fun. I fully plan to be back for this coming Saturday’s game against Stanford. They also have a variety of German beers, which you can order in big beer steins. My one complaint is that they only had Riesling for white wine. Eewies! I hate Riesling. So, if you come here, be prepared to stick with beer or liquor, but no wine unfortunately, unless you’re a fan of Riesling. The wait staff was friendly and efficient, constantly checking on us and making sure our steins were filled with the finest German lager. Tons of big screen TVs to watch the game, and they had a dj in house to spin some tunes in between commercials and during half time. I’m a fan!

I started off with 4 stars on this… but its grown to 5… this is pretty much my favorite bar on clark street(except for Mullens for Colts games). First off this bar is not your typical wrgileyville frathouse bar… so thats fantastic, especially when you have young friends that always want to go out in wrigleyville(ugh). I like wrigley for cubs games and thats about the extent of it anymore… this bar makes me ok with it on the weekends though haha. Next great thing — THEBEER. They have some awesome brews from one of the biggest names in german beers, and they serve them up in those huge mugs just like at the real hofbrauhaus in germany. If you feeling really crazy you can even get a das boot! and finally — the place itself… it has a really cool european/german feel. they have soccer scarves all over the walls and other cool stuff… they have the soccer channels on the TV too. They also play a good mix of music… 80s/90s and some newer stuff. Haven’t had the good yet, but I will soon!
