Followup: We went to Bari’s and the line was too long so we walked to Vinnies and ordered. The subs are great here! All the hype for Bari’s is well deserved and I love them but Vinnie’s is excellent as well. The lady at Vinnies has a personality where Bari’s is pretty drab in that department. Can’t miss with either place.

My buddies and I went here during our lunch break and were pleasantly surprised. I got the special sandwich which was turkey with pesto mayo. It was incredible. They use real mozzarella cheese that melts in your mouth. Vinnies is awesome! The staff is really friendly too.

I saw this place from Salerno’s, across the street, and decided to check it out. First, let me say that I grew up in New Jersey and am a self-proclaimed expert on NJ-style subs, which is Vinnie’s claim-to-fame. The shop was small and seemed reasonably clean. The counter help was quick and cheerful. But the sandwich, I’m sorry to say was pedestrian. Bread was good, but the meat load was on a par with Subway(i.e., a bad joke). They even skipped on lettuce! Also, they use red onions when I think that white onions are correct. Price was OK-ish. $ 8 for a small sub plus chips and fountain drink. I’ll give them a few more tries and revise my rating if I need to.

This is BYFAR the best sandwich place in Chicago. They NEVER skimp on the layers of phenomenally fresh meats, cheeses and deli veggies. The bread is purchased daily and is NEVER stale(trust me, I’ve devoured a number of these sandwiches over the course of 4 years) and the soups are just as delectable. I can’t say enough good things about my favorite little italian sammy joint. If you are a die hard subway/jimmy john’s fan I suggest you step out of your comfort zone and try a REAL meal for lunch. You cannot argue with the quality and amount of food you receive for the small price… and the customer service is an added bonus-Darlene is awesome Bonus: They deliver!

It just doesn’t get any better than this when it comes to Subs in Chicago. I have ventured far and wide for a good sub in this city. Now my standards are high, but not so far fetched that it requires a flight to southern Italy to complete the list. The bread must be firm, but not stale. The ingredients fresh and crisp. The mayo, Hellmanns or I walk out. Finally, the service, friendly but not so intensive that I lose my appetite. Alas, my search is over. Vinnie’s scores 5 stars in all the important areas. The subs are superb, the ingredients always fresh, the service… like your best friend’s Italian mother making you a sub and after calling you«Sweety». Joe and Dar who own the small sub shop in Chicago’s version of «Little Italy» set out to complete one goal: Provide great subs, great service at great prices. Don’t forget to try their homemade soups as they wake up early in the morning to make them. Your taste buds will thank you as will the staff.
