I have been here before and was surprised at the price point for all the items offered. Now it all makes sense. Check out the most recent Tribune article about what the owners are being charged with. DONOT patronize a business who owners have no respect for humans right. It is deplorable.

I really like this place! Talk about variety, they have a lot of options to choose from! From the traditional Chinese food, to the made to order stir fry station, to a small sushi bar! The food was tastey and I wanted to try everyhing. I will say the sushi was just ok(your average California and Philly roll) but hey you can’t beat the price for all the options and food you get. My one compliant is that when its 2 hours or so close to closing time they stop putting out food! That is ridiculous! I should get what I paid for if you are far from closing. smh. Other than that I say its a decent place.

This place seemed like a good idea at the time. Looked fairly clean, reasonable prices and lots of choices. I haven’t eaten anything else so I thought let’s try. The food wasn’t bad. Average buffet food that you would expect. For the price and type of establishment I wasn’t expecting to much and I know what I was getting into. What came later that night is what I definitely did not sign up for. I will assume the handling of the food is not very sanitary because later that night I found myself reenacting a scene from the exorcist. When it wasn’t coming out the front it was from the other end. At times I didn’t know which hole in my body I was expelling the honey chicken I thought I enjoyed earlier. Finally 48 hours later I was able to eat some oatmeal without feeling nauseous. I will go again next time I have an event to go to and I need to fit into my skinny pants.

If I could give a ZERO I absolutely would. I cannot believe how disgusting and dirty this place was. My husband and I left midway and were starving. Hibachi sushi buffet sounds like a party all of the time so we stopped here. My goodness, we walked in and paid in advance. We knew it was a mistake once we did a once over and even the veggies looked like crap. We grabbed a couple pieces that we could have possibly stomached. We sat down and 30 seconds later after one bite were honestly appalled at the quality, taste, and cleanliness. We stood up and walked out as all of the employees stared wondering why we didn’t touch anything or stay over a minute. This place should be shut down or have a health inspector go and check out the operation being ran.

Hit or miss. Sometimes the food is hot and decent, other times it’s cold or bad or both. The cooked to order grill is good but there is nothing that really stands out. The place needs so serious work… from the worn out floors to the disgustingly dirty bathrooms and tables need a good cleaning. If they tried a bit harder they’d have something here. Price is ok but a little high all things considered. Basically if you want to fill up on a variety of food and a semi-reasonable price this is your place but there are better options for Chinese food.

As good as buffet can get. I like the new rule– you can’t take more than you can eat. So, less food will go to waste.

A slightly above average Chinese buffet. The hibachi option where you make your own plate and they grill it up is a nice touch. Having a wider range of sushi than your typical Chinese buffet is a nice touch. Food generally tastes pretty good. Still it’s a buffet so don’t get your hopes to high.

This place is horrible. Why is it even open, the food is horrendous. The food is of such low quality. The beef was chewy, the food was barely even warm. I couldn’t even finish my plate. The sushi looked like it was made last night, it was so dry and looked old. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place. I feel nauseous as I type this in here.

This place is near my work location for the next 25 weeks or so. It’s basically your run of the mill Chinese buffet without the basic upkeep. The restaurant does not seem like it was in good repair. Tables are sticky, fountain machine has out of order signs all over numerous beverages, silverware is spotty, etc. The food is average at best. Probably not gonna be hitting this one up very often.

I wish i could give this place no stars but, I cant. I came in with family over an hour before closing and paid a full priced meal like any other customer. They failed to inform us that they were wrapping things up and we didnt seem to notice until we grabbed plates to find that not only was the hibachi area closed, but they were very limited items out at the buffet. I served myself one plate and came back to get a fork and saw they were already emptying stuff for the night and pouring out the hot water and everything from underneath the pans at the buffet area. With a hungry toddler and 7 year old, and with the fact we paid and already served ourselves, we didnt bother leaving to go find other options but, ate what was available. The food was cold, and the rest tasted rewarmed. They had a meat dish that tasted like it was sour and going bad. Not to mention that the staff was cleaning around the restaurant with bleach water and other products as we ate. We felt totally rushed and uncomfortable. I was frustrated at the fact that we paid full price just like any other customer and couldnt even enjoy a decent meal. I spoke to the Cashier/manager there and she blamed the bad food on the kitchen staff. I then told her that how could she not notice stuff didnt look so good as it sat out? or if it looked cold? She then asked me «what do you want me to do about it? I will call the kitchen staff to go in the back and cook just for you all then? is that what you want? with such a sarcastic attitude. I was caught off guard. I expressed to her that we felt rushed and could smell the bleach really strong as we ate. she just looked back at me with a smirk. I told her that it was simply a complaint and that we will never again come back to this place to eat because of the food and her response to this situation. We paid like any other custoemr and this was just a pretty bad experience. I asked for the information of the person above her in charge and she said they do not speak English. So basically I was out of luck. NEVERAGAIN.

I’ve been visiting all-you-can-eat buffets for quite some time now, and I can honestly say I have NEVER been to one as horrible as Hibachi Sushi Buffet. It was hands-down the worst experience I’ve had at a buffet(and I’ve been to some BAD buffets). Every aspect of an AYCE buffet, they found a way to make it awful. The seating/tables: I was shocked at the 2:30pm crowd that was already inside. It took a few minutes to find a table that wasn’t 1) already partially-occupied, 2) sticky to the touch, or 3) wobbly. I would love to say I was able to find a table not in the immediate vicinity of screaming miscreant children. This is an impossibility. Every other table had children under the age of 4, except for the groups of elderly folk. I thought I had a decent table, until I stood up to get a plate and realized the veneer floor was warped and likely to trip someone with its bowing. It almost did trip someone, actually. Beverages: I understand that the world is not full of potentially-diabetic people who need to have a Diet soda option, but it comes standard on just about every soda machine. A decent establishment would have TWO Diet options. Well, we went to fill up a cup with Diet Pepsi(the only Diet option), only to find it without syrup. Oh, there’s another soda machine? IT’S ALSOOUTOFDIETPEPSISYRUP?!? We EACH tried to notify the management/staff of the dilemma. We were responded with either 1) blank stares of non-English-speaking staff, 2) parroted repetition of our statements by non-English-speaking staff with no action or 3) the staff ignoring us and walking away. The Service: There is no «service» here. You are at the complete mercy of what equate to extra-terrestrial beings, their rules, their food, and their language. If you can’t manage that, you’re shit out of luck. The act of a busser taking your used plates(most of which still had inedible food bits left on them — more on that later) is a 50 – 50 success rate. They might take your actual plate as often as taking your used place, and half of the time they won’t pick up your used plate. We each had a used plate off to the side. Mine was picked up; hers was not. No logic to it. Also see above for the«Diet Soda Debacle» service quality. Cleanliness: The food stations weren’t DIRTY, but looking at them, I got this… feeling that something wasn’t clean/right around me. We had a suspicion that the stir-fry cook was taking raw meat off the plates and putting the cooked food back on the raw-meat plates. I stood around to watch, and can at least confirm that this does not appear to be the case. So I thought«maybe there’s an iota of cleanliness and goodness in this place.» Then I stepped into the bathroom. NOPE. Yuck. Just walking in the room, I felt my skin crawl. The smell didn’t improve matters. The Food: This is what it’s all about, right? Even if I’m thirsty and abandoned in a sticky. stinky place — if it’s AYCE buffet, the food is what really matters. And the food… was not good. We started with the sushi area, and it was mediocre at best. Still technically sushi, but I never felt like doing a 2nd round of it. Although a 2nd round of mediocre sushi would have been better than ANYTHINGELSE out there. Char O. was gagging and almost threw up at one point, though I can’t recall from what. The«macaroni and cheese» definitely had macaroni, but I can’t consider the rest of it of even remotely«cheese”-like quality. We were amazed at how the simplest things tasted ruined. The fried shrimp was decent, until I peeled away the breading and saw gross uncleaned poop-veins. Even the PIZZA, which tasted exactly like every other buffet pizza, was left on a SLANT at the station, and we watched the cheese slowly slide to one side of the round as it lay there dying under a heat lamp… So with all of this horrendous food, we had to ask: How/Why are there so many people here? What are THEY eating? A survey of the plates around me shed some light on this mystery. It was mostly fried chicken(okay but dry), watermelon slices(not wasting stomach space trying that) and pizza/fries/o-rings/nuggets. It all became clear. This place used to be an Old Country Buffet, and all of the regular patrons still kept coming, but only eating the menu items they used to get at OCB… And the dip in quality from OCB to HSB on those items must not have been that significant. They just never bothered to try the sushi and other Chinese-type fares. Stick with«the devil you know», amirite? So that solved the mystery. It just didn’t solve any of the major problems plaguing us during our visit. We’re not going to be coming back here. We don’t advise you coming here, either. Unless you’re a die-hard patron of the Old Country Buffet that used to be here, and you can’t escape those ghosts from the past… or the sticky tables/floors…

Don’t usually do buffets but I went here with an open mind and my cousin’s treat and I was very much underwhlmed. It was what you would expect from a typical buffet, especially Asian: low quality food, greasy and too much going on. If they had stuck to one culture/style of food, it *might* have been better. Instead they offered a bit from every corner of the globe: pizza, tacos, orange chicken stir-fry, spaghetti, kabobs, etc. it was simply too much. And the sushi… I won’t even go there. I mean. I almost never eat sushi any where other than a *sushi* restaurant but my cousin is a bit more adventurous than myself(and also, easier to please) but even SHE thought the sushi was bad. Also, the bathrooms were disgusting. Granted, I went on a Sunday which is probably the restaurant’s busiest day, but these restrooms probably hadn’t received a good cleaning since the turn of the new year. If you happen to go here for free like I did, stick to the vegetable Lo Mein and the«hot and spicy» chicken –those were the dishes I found to be most edible. Otherwise, stay away from here and any other buffet for that matter!

When I walked in it looked beautiful. Guy at counter friendly. Went down hill from there. Went to bathroom before dinning. Bathroom smelled filthy. A garbage can in each stall a front of ea. stall over filled with nastiness. Looked like cans hav not been changed in quit awhile by the looks and smell. This place just opened, so yes, bathrooms ar over looked. I was completely grossed out. I told man at front desk and he said he knew, men’s bathroom is the same way. Nice! Yum o! He told me he was not predujice but the black customers make a mess. Ok, so clean after them !!! Don’t think tat was the case, bu any hoo. Went to buffet. Sushi was ok, had to ask for fresh. The rest ofth food was foul, tasteless, over salted junk! While dinning the crew had their mops out cleaning with bleach, I would NEVER go back. I hope they turn it around.

This buffet has recently opened a few weeks ago, I have been afraid of all you can eat buffets(especially Asian) because usually is low quality, greasy, under or over cooked food, but after Old Country Buffet closed some time ago, I was looking forward for the opening of the Hibachi Sushi Buffet in the same location on Cicero and 31st St. I picked a Saturday evening to make sure there were enough people for the food to rotate and be as fresh as possible, but my first impression was that the building looked the same as the predecessor. Bathroom, floor, walls, and furniture were clean, not exceptionally clean, but normal clean and I was curios to take a look at the kitchen. On the food, big selection of items, I try a little bit about half of the items and did not bother with salads, fruits and row vegetables; I just checked them that they were freshly cut and not frozen or canned. Sushi bar was OK, I counted about 20 different types and most were in smaller pieces than normal, customers were not paying to much attention to the selection, I think because the Latino area, sushi is not very popular. Sashimi was also OK and less appealing to people because of the raw fish; the eel was a very chewy, white tuna and pink salmon were OK. There were most of the traditional rolls(California, salmon and avocado roll, etc.). The ginger was fresh and juicy, but the wasabi was dry(acquired taste only) and not spicy enough. The seaweed salad was great but people were not paying attention to it also. They also had small crab legs), frog legs, boiled and breaded shrimp about size 31 – 40 and not too small, tilapia with butter, cat fish, spiced jalapeño squid, and the typical Chinese plates(sesame chicken, kung po shrimp, beef and broccoli, mushroom, sweet & sour chicken, fried chicken tender, clams, fried rice, lo mein, rice noodles. The roast beef was not appealing and did not bother to try it, also did not tried the soup and I did not see people interested on getting a bowl, I will try it next time. The buffalo wings were not really spicy and very greasy, and egg rolls were mostly filled with cabbage. They also had pizza, pasta, and other items that I was not interested. On the Mongolian side, they had shrimp and beef, but not chicken and talking to the cook, he said that they run out of some of the items. Also, I notice that they were using butter to cook and none of the oil-based sauces used for the rich Mongolian flavor, the cook just added water to the grill to cook and then the butter, giving a total different flavor than the authentic Mongolian food. The cook promised to do it more authentic next time I go for dinner. For dessert were some sweet rolls, some decent pastries, and your typical fortune cookies. I did not touch the ice cream. Coffee was OK, the oolong tea cheap little packets, and the regular fountain drinks. At one time they run out of glasses for the soft drinks. The service was decent; they were taking empty plates often to make room for the incoming plates. I notice that a waitress had a child about 8 years old helping her picking dirty plates, possibly her son and he had stains on his sweater, not something that you want to see while you are eating. They also have catering and sell food by the pound; I did not see any other price for lunch or brunch. There was about 40% of the restaurant’s capacity and there were no lines waiting for food. They were restocking food trays fast enough to be able to try all different dishes. Don’t know about children prices/menu because I do not have any, but there were plenty of teenagers with families(most of them texting or facebook). In general, it was an OK all you can eat experience for food, service, ambiance for the price of $ 12 plus tax(gratuity extra) per person. I do not expect great service or gourmet Chinese/Japanese for this price. I did not get sick so that is a plus and if they continue with the same service as I experience, I think they will be OK and possibly do a good dent to the other local restaurants on quality, price and service(as a past restaurant owner, I know what I’m talking about). Good eats are memorable.

I was there last night after seeing this place remodoled for ever. When I walked it I was like?! It looks practically the same and it took them this long to open! Now the food was TERRIBLE. There was not much selection and some of the food trays were emplty. what am I suppose to tell them they are out? The place was practically empty which was a bad sign to begin with. The food was dry and tasteless. I live a few blocks away and I rather drive down to 74th& Cicero for a good buffett. I give it a big thumbs DOWN.

Hibachi Sushi Buffet finally opened in the building that formerly housed the Old Country Buffet in Cicero. After one visit, all that can be said is: «As bad as OCB was at that location, it was a lot better than this Hibachi Restaurant.» First, all major credit cards are NOT accepted here. Really, in 2013, all credit cards aren’t accepted? Next, there’s no lunch buffet price on New Years Day. What? Finally, the food… as a lover of shrimp, there were only two offerings: cold fried shrimp or very spicy-hot non-fried shrimp. The grill chef didn’t clean off the grill before preparing the food handed to him. The line of people waiting was long — only one chef while the guy preparing the sushi was well-stocked at the sushi table and could have come over and helped at the grill. Service was bad: after no one cleared plates for the first half hour, they wouldn’t stop. My table was cleared prematurely twice when I was back up at the buffet. The second time, another customer took my table from me. Bad pricing, bad in non-acceptance of credit cards, horrendous food choices, bad-tasting food, extremely disorganized, and service people not knowing what they were doing. Additionally, complaints to the host/cashier fell on totally deaf ears — as there was no management in sight! Worst dining experience I’ve had in years — anywhere! Prediction: With all the Chinese restaurant-competitors in the area, this one is NOT going to make it.
