I’m a big fan of Nick and Sense of Place. He’s been here a dozen or so times over the last few years, and knows everything about trees from seedling to firewood. He’s pruned our fruit trees beautifully; he is very good about knowing how the tree will react over time to the cuts he makes and does a phenomenal job of optimizing them for fruit production and ease of harvesting. They also look balanced and beautiful when he’s done. He’s also been great about end-of-life details when trees have to come down. He can turn a dead, dying, or dangerous tree into a stack of firewood and a pile of chips very quickly. And then he can advise on options when it’s time to replace it with a new tree. We haven’t used him for his other services, but I wouldn’t hesitate to call him if we needed those. He has a wealth of knowledge about pretty much everything that grows. He shows up right on time, every time, communicates well, and works efficiently, safely, and neatly. His prices are very reasonable as well. If you’re looking for an arborist, Nick’s your man.

When our cherry tree showed signs of illness, we called Nick Bezzerides(Sense of Place Permaculture) based on a friend’s recommendation. He gave us a free consult and estimate, and after explaining that the tree couldn’t be saved, he removed it promptly and for a very fair price. This year we called him to get an estimate on pruning a tree in front of our house. He is always willing to do a free estimate, and we think of him first whenever we have a question about our trees or landscaping. He is friendly and professional, and he answers all of our questions fully. He is also prompt in replying to voice mails and email.

I was hesitant to call because I though I could trim my trees and do the job myself. But upon my wife’s insistence I call Nick and he came out gave me a quote to trim my trees and get ride of dead branches. I am so glad I did. He got way up in our trees(way above my comfort level) removed what as needed and the best part was he hauled it all away. He was also very knowledgeable about what he was doing and gave me a good education about my trees.

The guy behind Sense of Place Permaculture, Nick Bezzarides, was working at my neighbor’s house in NE Portland last year, and I asked his advice about plantings in my parking strip. His thoughtful, environmentally-conscious advice led to me giving him a chance to bid on a small replanting project. He got the job. Nick was on time, his work was reasonably priced, and he was a good communicator. I appreciated his attitude, good nature, knowledge, and work.

Nick, owner of Sense of Place Permaculture, gave me a free consultation to discuss the installation of a rain garden and some of my issues with a partially failed gutter system at my home in SW Portland, where the ground is very clay-like and we have some drainage problems. it has been challenging to find someone with a global and systemic understanding of rainwater management for my property and he was it. He arrived exactly on time, he was very courteous, and extremely knowledgeable. He came as a recommendation from Purple Rain, which is one of the pioneers of waste water and drainage solutions from an ecological and sustainability approach. His prices seemed very fair and I would recommend him for anyone who wants a knowledgable and reliable, ecologically oriented landscape/drainage outfit. I was really impressed and grateful for his time & think he is a great resource for Portland.
