Cocoa Bakery

So I’ve had the opportunity to try a few more things and they’ve all been really good! We’ve tried the lemon poppy seed muffin, the crème brûlée, a chocolate cake slice (I forget what it was called) and some tarts. My husband tried another muffin that was good but I can’t remember what kind it was. If you get the crème brûlée don’t forget to make sure she torches it for you
The selection can be sparse so if there’s something specific you want, order ahead or call and see what she has left. We tend to stop by late in the day and it’s never planned so we either get lucky or we don’t.

She made our wedding cake and it was perfect. The favor was amazing and decorations on the cake met beyond expectations. Also, the fondant was tasty since it marshmallow flavored. Everyone enjoyed the cake and kept asking where we got out cake.

We went to Grace at Cocoa for help making marzipan and fondant characters for a Shaun the Sheep and bunny rabbit themed garden cake. They did an AMAZING job and far exceeded even my highest expectations. We will definitely be coming here again and I recommend this bakery to anyone who needs a special cake made. They are fantastic.

Second time coming to this place to find it close.

Just trying to order my kids cake for Thor party but it’s just not happening

I love stopping by this bakery when I’m strolling through Claremont. Their cranberry scones are my favorite and I got a few people hooked on them :)!!! This bakery is a true gem in the village.

The lemon sponge was light, melt-​in-​your-​mouth, just the right balance of sweet and tart. Whipped cream icing had great mouth feel — not greasy. Have had the mango, same quality.

I had a horrible experience with this bakery. This was my first time going here & I was nervous since I am new to the area & I don’t know of any good bakeries yet but Grace had good reviews so I went with it. I ordered a 2 layer fondant cake for my daughters 7^th birthday party & it was hideous! Mind u I talked with her for a good half hour explaining what I wanted & the colors & design & even sent her 2 pictures through email for her reference. Nothing that I described I wanted & what we talked about was on the cake. I was dumb founded. I payed $ 240 & it was nothing she promised me. Plus there was a lot of damage wrinkling from the fondant on the cake. Very poor workmanship. The day of the party my husband & cousin picked up the cake. (Bad idea) but I was very busy understandably. My cousin pointed out the wrinkling & melting of the fondant all around the cake & I was so sad & shocked how bad it was. My cousin explained how he brought it to Grace’s attention & she said «I’ll only give u 10% off that’s it no more» & never apologized or offered to fix it after I paid so much. I then called Grace right away & told her the cake is horrible & nothing we agreed upon & damaged & told her I want my full refund & I was on my way to return the cake. She said oh ok never apologized on the phone. Once I got to the bakery I pointed out all my issues & she then finally apologized & said she was so busy that she had her «assistant» make the cake! Which I then found out the «assistant» was her husband who made the cake! She’s the one with the experience not him. I was so upset but kept my composure. She gave me a full refund plus $ 50 extra to buy a new cake but to me it was not enough because I was so looking forward to a beautiful cake as the eye of the party. I told her that she made a very poor decision because now I lost total respect for her & the bakery & will never go back because I had to leave my daughters party & now I have to find a last minute cake which I sadly ended up going to Vons & got an already made cake. I honestly felt like my business was not important to her at all & she did not take my business serious. I felt she thought she could get away with a horrible looking cake & I wouldn’t say anything. I think she’s used to a certain type of customer & since I’m younger & not of upper class I felt she did not care about me or my daughters birthday party. A very sad & unfortunate experience.

I was nervous about the cake because this was the first time ordering anything from Cocoa Bakery. Oh my goodness the cake was amazing! I absolutely love Asian style French pastries! Grace’s cake is no exception! Her cake was perfectly moist, fluffy and the degree of sweetness was on point. It’s so hard to find pastry shops that don’t make overwhelmingly buttery, sugary cakes. I’m so excited to have found this shop, usually I have to go all the way to San Gabriel to buy good cake!
Her decorating skills are also quite amazing! All I asked of her was to do the lettering and a blue guitar and she gave me something that was a thousand times more beautiful than I imagined!
I’m excited to try different flavors! I think I ordered the coffee torte and it was incredibly delicious! I can’t wait until the next birthday comes around! I’m definitely buying the cake here!

I had a cake made for my mom in shape of of a casino slot machine for her birthday. Their were a few people at the party that didn’t like cake, but after they tasted this one they wanted seconds… It was amazing very fluffy softly sweetened and the out side of the cake completed it, I will always get my cakes made at cocoa bakery!!! Just like everywhere else some place aren’t always consistent with their pastry but the cake will tell it all … I do have to say cakes are better than some crust and anywhere else I’ve had one made or tasted! I was completely satisfied !

The owner of the bakery has been an awesome help on our wedding cake. She let us try varieties of cakes favourite that she custom made as well as making the cake that fit into our wedding theme; she did such a great job over all. I highly recommend her to all my friends :)

Grace’s cakes are always lovely, not too sweet. Her pastries always makes me come back for more. I ordered my wedding cake through her and it came out better then expected. Our theme was pandas and she was able to create the cutest panda couple as a cake topper… everyone could not stop complementing on it. After the wedding we ordered additional nut tarts just to give to friend overseas (also another delicious pastry to try).

First time here, tried the BBQ Pork buns. Really good! Bun was slightly sweet with generous quantity of filling (pork, mushroom, mung bean and lotus seeds). So good we went back for the Red Bean bun which was good and
not too sweet.
French pastries looked good as did the Asian pastries which have recently been added to the menu. An interesting assortment of French and Asian pastries.
Will try rice noodle meal next time. And Green Tea Brioche.

Bought a simple chocolate cupcake and it was terrible the cake was dry and tasted like there was no sugar in it. The chocolate buttercream was good it would have been better if it wasn’t frozen. They gave me a frozen cupcake that was in the process of defrosting. All bad never again.

While some reviewers compare Cocoa Bakery to «Some Crust» and other local bakeries, let me clarify that this café offers European specialties that competitors do not. Never in Claremont have I seen a canele, and Cocoa Bakery’s are as lovely as can be. Another standout is the English gingerbread, which I had never tasted before patronizing this store… and now I am hooked.
The owner is super, super friendly. She is knowledgeable, well-​trained in baking arts and very helpful. She packages your items attractively and with care.
The only downside is that she still doesn’t accept credit cards, which can be a problem if you are looking to spend $ 20 or more on goods.
If you just want another cupcake bakery, you have many options… knock yourself out. But if you are looking for unique, quality European pastries, please give Cocoa Bakery a try!

Love this place and the the beautiful French-​trained baker Grace. The pastries are fresh, delicious and made from scratch. It is clear that Grace loves what she does, and was so kind to open her shop up after closing today for some friends and me. Now that is good customer service! We will always go back to the bakery and bring new friends in to experience the tasty treats and kindness of the owner/​baker.

This place may be good for cakes because I’m assuming they make them freshly ordered for an occasion, but for a pastry, it is horrible. I got an red velvet cupcake that I paid $ 3.00 for and it smelled and tasted old. The kind of smell that food picks up in a refrigerator when it’s been next to other foods etc. You’re way better off going to Some Crust for daily pastries, food and coffee. I think this place should have known better coming into the village with a great bakery like Some Crust; step it up!

People LOVED my wedding cake. They had seconds, and some even thirds! Have you ever heard that happen at a wedding? I haven’t… which is why I didn’t get to have any of my cake. it ran out so quickly I was shocked.
I did have one bit when I cut it, and of course I had plenty during the tasting which is why I chose Cocoa Bakery despite the very little reviews I’ve seen about them. I tasted 4 different bakeries and this was by far the best one. My family loved it so much we ended up ordering extra slices to eat there.
Grace is professionally trained and still teaches regularly. Her cakes are fresh, light, and with just the right amount of sweetness.
It’s been months since my wedding and people are still talking about the cake. My husband ended up getting a small cake from her this week for my birthday and it was just as amazing as I remembered.
I’ve had many cakes from some crust as well, and this is just different. I still LOVE some crust, but the cakes are so different I can’t really compare them. I would definitely say that with some crust, I can only eat a small slice at once, but with Cocoa’s cakes, because they’re so much lighter, I can eat a lot more: P

This place is LEGIT! The OG location I went to is in La Puente but i found this location really by fate when I took my Dad for his doctors appointment in Claremont! I noticed another Cocoa Bakery?! And yupp same owner and second location! I love the cakes because they are sorta Asian fusion so it’s not like your typically super sweet and nasty Cheesecake Factory style! It is just right on the sweetness :)
My favorite is definitely the pastries! You can do special orders too! They are probably lots of calories but so worth it! Hahah
Grace is the owner and is she awesome!

The owner of this place is amazingly accommodating! I have been looking all over Southern California for a specific cake, I took a picture and an explanation of the ingredients and she made it for me. It was wonderful. I will ALWAYS give this a 5 Star rating!

If you need a good bakery, please try out Cocoa Bakery’s. The owner «Grace“makes her speciality pastries, cakes, from scratch. She is hardworking, and trying to make the Claremont Store successful as her first one in La Puente.
